Cooked
Season is basically done.
Will likely be 2-6 or 3-5 at best looking at fixture.
Injuries galore, player stupidity in getting suspended.
Do they ever get anything right at St Kilda?
Don’t have a half bad side (short of gun midfielders as per usual), but the slightest bit of expectation and they poop the bed yesterday.
Still pissed off.

Re: Cooked
We've not had our best team in. If we had, there'd be a strong chance we'd be 3 - 0 right now.
Have to look at everything in context and keep an eye on the future. Building a team capable of contending is what it's about. We had 7 youngsters out there yesterday
Windhager 20
Hastie 18
Wilson 18
Owens 20
Caminiti 20
Phillipou 19
Wanganeen-Milera 21
Sharman has only played 34 games. Henry 45, Byrnes 51, and Stocker 54

Re: Cooked
Yep they beat the premiers last week and list two close games. Very hard to cover 8 outs for an extended period.

Yes because we beat them with a undermanned side.

That’s another point. Either they have no idea what they are doing year on year, or it’s luck/bodies that cannot cope with AFL requirements. Is it luck when history repeats?

GWS (away), Dogs & Port (away) after this week.
Looking pretty grim and another waste of time.
Mid table garbage where we miss out on a top 5 pick.
We need gun mids and we just avoid it in any way we can.

Re: Cooked
All I asked for at the start of the season was to have some luck with injury for once and give the coaches a good look at the whole list.
It makes it hard when you don't have depth in the list and then have a large injury list.

Re: Cooked
So......not having near your best team on the park is absolutely no excuse? Hmmm
Okay, so how many test matches would the late 1990s/early 2000s Australian test team have won without McGrath and Warne?. That's only two players, right? Would still have dominated, right?
If you don't believe that Wood, Henry, King, Crouch, and Webster would have made a difference against the Bombers, then you don't understand the value of talent and experience.

One tip
Don’t get sucked in by the self described Oracle of All Knowledge - noting he/she/it spends the time on this Forum spent on it
And that is its own commentary
By my count, there were 9 AFL Listed players representing Sandringham today - only Campbell and the returning Hayes with experience and neither established AFL footballers
The rest recently Drafted kids - and playing in a winning side today
Whilst our injury list and suspensions remain it is going to be difficult - starting from this week at Norwood where ruck dominance and clearances will deliver the result in a contested game - so a ground level contest consequent on there being no marking dominance
If a side gets on top in clearances and takes marks they win - easily
Noting what Lyon said re clearances
A loss here will put pressure on and make for a difficult season in regards replicating 2023
We have lost to 2 sides which were not in the 8 last season
No doubt those unavailable are impacting also in regard experience

Facts have no place here. Lol
Re: Cooked
And just to add, Lyon mentioned the change in the demographics of the List, moving on who was moved on in favour of youth, so the Draft
We don’t have journeymen on our List, players we are able to fall back on
We only have Cordy and Campbell
And that is where the extent of the unavailabile list hurts
We are missing the experience of Crouch, Wood and Howard and even Webster - and the skills of the recruited Henry, of Clark then King
Leaving Butler aside
We are getting a look at Wilson and Hardie - and will get a look at others as we may need now to cover Windhager (another kid)
And they look ok

Re: Cooked
We are cooked because we have already lost two games that were there to be had and the list isn't good enough even with everyone available to upset any of the sides that will be top 4 to make up for that profligacy. We will just fall short.
Of course with all currently injured players fit and match hardened we beat Essendon by 10 goals. But back to reality we had the opportunity yesterday to win comfortably but blew it big time. Sinclair not going for goal when clear and in easy range was a classic example of wicked waste, cocky party trick time? the well documented shockers in front. Membrey did not stand up in the absence of Max, Bonner was a turnover nightmare, any number of hopeless decisions by foot..all this we know. Its like the majority got hit with a dumb stick and when the tide turned could not just keep to the plan. Seb was outstanding, Steele and Marshall ran themselves into the ground, Byrnes never gives up, but too many others just didn't keep grinding away in disciplined fashion, didn't do the team 1%ers, didn't focus on basic skills. That collective malaise is why we are cooked.
I hope Ross starts a ruthless turnover of inconsistent players and those , while skilled, don't have the fortitude to fight for a win regardless. It was only 4 points at the end, plenty of players could have made a goal difference but when it counted they fluffed their lines like schoolboys.

Re: Cooked
Injuries again have cruelled our start to the season, it will take a miracle to recover and make something of the year. No club can cope with so many out for so long.
Injury/player load management remains a huge question at the club - RTB and the fitness staff are NOT getting it right.

Re: Cooked
I think the negativity is simply due to the feeling of most people is that we should have beaten Essendon and a bit of luck/whatever should have beaten Geelong.
3-0
We’d be flying by the seat of our pants but content.
