Re: Tony74
Any words of comfort Tony. Insights into why that performance against a less talented side?

Re: Tony74
It was a poor performance wasn't it
Wilkie looked off, sincs drilled an oponent with a kick
owens and caminiti in front of goal has never been good.
Overall they thought they were going to have an easy one...kicked the first couple and were shocked by a team who wanted to win.
very dissapointing game....do they have the virus ?

Can’t blame Tony if he has decided to give this forum a wide berth. It’s basically an online leper colony for deranged Saints fans lol

Re: Tony74
Problem as I see it.
Beat a pretend Essendon in the practice match
Just got over the line against North in a practice match
Lost to Geelong in Geelong - but only narrowly
Beat a very poor Collingwood - got them at a good time
Lost to Essendon in a game where one team was stung into action
Have a massive injury/suspension list
Just not good enough to compete at the moment - building to a team - but just not there - too much reliance on players who would be learning the craft at other teams but at St Kilda need to be mainstays
- Owens
- NWM
- Windy
- Wilson
- Pou (FFS he is just 19)
- Even Byrnes is only 22
We were the 4th youngest team for the week.
Their ins -
Mason Redman,
Jake Kelly,
Harrison Jones,
Darcy Parish
Our ins -
Anthony Caminiti,
Angus Hastie,
Dan Butler
Their Sub - Hind - Fast, Hard (ish) Experienced
Our Sub - Hastie - Young, enthusiastic Inexperienced
It was a hard game to bring a sub in for a pressure cooker last quarter

Re: Tony74
I think we got to a 22 point lead within the first five minutes of that second quarter. We needed to crush their morale. 1 more goal and we could have.
We got a lot of gettable opportunities in the 2nd quarter with a lot of marks and set shots. We had 14 inside 50s, they only had 10.
Cooper missed 2 set shots and 1 of them hit the post. Owens missed after marking just 30m out. Higgins missed a soda from dead in front ...it was late in the second. It was just what the team needed as reward for their hard work and dominance. It was a huge let down
When our guys tackled they weren't rewarded. Essendon players were incorrectly disposing it and no holding the ball was paid. I think because it was a predominantly Essendon crowd that there were these 'non decisions' that were let go.
The commentators said at one stage late in the 2nd that the free kick count was pretty low.
There were a couple of dubious decisions that went their way which kept them in the contest in that 2nd quarter. Number 35 was involved in awarding frees to Essendon early on...as well as in the last quarter.
Overall, not enough contributors and we ran out of steam in the last. We're a work in progress. I see a lot of upside from our young developing players.

Hahaha these days, I try to avoid this place as much as possible. Although I have to admit, we’ve got a couple of real beauties (code for cockheads) on here at the moment
Anyway, a bit of a weekend from hell Tim Tszyu went down and so did our beloved Saints

C'mon Tony, just a little bone.
Maybe some sound bites from the coaches box?
Ross must have been cross?

Re: Tony74
IF you actually want input re performance listen to the Senior Coach
His assessment is spot on - including on where and why our List is where it is at
This is Lyon’s 2nd season - and his focus is on being a long term Coach at St Kilda including successfully

Re: Tony74
Fair enough.
I did listen
I watched it unfold.
Saw us dominate then inexplicably stop.
Hoping to understand why an inferior side over ran us and our stellar coaching panel were apparently out coached
I have studied all the speculative opinions and fear only Brad Scott knows.
Have been hoping Ross or Tony can offer more than repeating bland anecdotes about what we all saw.
I thought the 4 points on offer were more coveted than what the club served up.

Re: Tony74
Everyone is downplaying the Bombers effort against us and the game they played against Swans the week before. The Swans are probably back to their 2022 form. I expect them to finish top 4 this year.
They have a pretty deep midfield and overall beat us at the contest. Higher numbers for clearances and contested possessions. They had higher tackle numbers too so they out pressured us.
I think they are going to be one of our main competitors when it comes to securing a spot in the finas this year and beyond. They've got a fair bit of young talent, similar to us.

This will prove to be a truly 8 point game - and they got the chocolates.Scollop wrote: ↑Mon 01 Apr 2024 11:57pm Everyone is downplaying the Bombers effort against us and the game they played against Swans the week before. Re: Tony74
Here's one for you Tony 74, just watched Ross on Talking Footy.
He is very good. We are in good hands.
Just need the players to do their bit. Not the reliable stalwarts, the peripherals.
(Do you think they can).
We may not make finals but we will end up with a new group of new young guns, which will give us something from this year.

Ross is a very intelligent man and his analytic approach to the process smacks of professionalism..
His determination for a flag is summed up nicely at the end of the interview.
I personally am confident we have the right man , some on here bag me for it , blind faith etc, that's ok
i've seen many coaches come and go...this one impresses me.

He is, without a doubt, the best coach we've had since Ross Lyon in 2011.The Fireman wrote: ↑Thu 04 Apr 2024 8:32am Ross is a very intelligent man and his analytic approach to the process smacks of professionalism..

I am also convinced that, when we hired him v2.0, there were no better candidates out there.

Re: Tony74
Dunno- Ratts got us into finals, so has Lyon. Neither coach has a premiership and until we get the next flag, they're all on level pegging to me.The Fireman wrote: ↑Thu 04 Apr 2024 8:32amcompare this interview with say..a Richo or Ratts one, chalk and cheeseYorkeys wrote: ↑Wed 03 Apr 2024 10:58pm Here's one for you Tony 74, just watched Ross on Talking Footy.

Re: Tony74
Neither has done so
Neither will do unless they get the list capable of delivering a flag
We will NOT win a flag with this list
Best ladder position this team is capable of
6tb->14th
