Arie Schoenmaker to debut?
I guess he’ll be Mason Wood’s temporary replacement. Apparently he played a rip snorter for Sandy.
I also like the idea of Collard to fill in for Liam Henry.

Re: Arie Schoenmaker to debut?
AFL media is absolutely piss weak. Start of the season we were gonna finish bottom six. Now we're "one of the in form teams of the competition..." They can F*** right off

Re: Arie Schoenmaker to debut?
I'd love to see Saints throw the Schoenmaker in the deep end at full forward.
What are our choices? Cordy or Caminiti?
Keen to give the young guys a crack.

Play the kid on the wing. 2 week trial.
Caminti to full forward and Butler in for Henry.

Re: Arie Schoenmaker to debut?
He’s been playing as a half-back, but near enough imo. Maybe a bit more two-way running, but a natural footballer should be able to make the adjustment very quickly.

The wing requires an enormous tank
You can’t just sit behind the footy and rack up uncontested marks and get cheap possessions
He is obviously a defender

Re: Arie Schoenmaker to debut?
Obvious to who? It’s obvious to me he is a footballer. Many, many good players have started as halfbacks and diversified into other roles. It’s a good training ground for young players. Doesn’t mean they stay there for the rest of their careers.
As to his tank, I doubt we’d have recruited him if he doesn’t have a good one.

Re: Arie Schoenmaker to debut?
He doesn’t
He finished 3rd last in the time trial.
He’s clearly a defender- he’s trained back all season
- his strengths are
Remind the ball and zoning off
Kicking out of d50

This wing is the most gruelling position on the ground for power running

Re: Arie Schoenmaker to debut?
He won’t play wing
He’s been likened to Battle except less defensive than Battle
His skill is he reads it well, intercepts well and his leg
He could be useful to kick over, stretch zones but he’s not a key defender
I don’t think he plays based on like for like
If King goes - Caminiti probably
Pou to wing - has tank can take a relieving mark big kick
Butler (even tho bad last week but in crap vfl side..) comes in for Henry
Bombers have pace ….Id sub Garcia

Re: Arie Schoenmaker to debut?
Battle is a pretty good runner and was playing in lots of positions before he claimed his spot as a key defender. More Richo bang aids, like Marshall at full forward because he isn't a natural tap ruckman and Billings lining up at half forward and running his clacker off picking up 50 % of his kicks in defence and Gresham giving an extension as a fwd and then thrown in the middle.Teflon wrote: ↑Sun 24 Mar 2024 12:06pm He won’t play wing

Arie is a defender but he is no slouch if he can pick up 30's sweeping and rebounding. We tend to hold the ball in our half quite well and Battle, Cordy and Battle defend and rebound. We have to replace Wood not a tall defender, why would we put a first year player under that pressure.

Re: Arie Schoenmaker to debut?
We have lost two of our best runners in Wood and Henry, they are not going to be replaced by a tall backman who is not yet at AFL standard (wingman) fitness.
In: Jones and Crouch for Wood & Henry
Camanitti for King (if appeal unsuccessful)
If Butler is match fit, he’s in or sub, if not it’s Garcia or Collard.

Re: Arie Schoenmaker to debut?
My guess is no. Does not yet have the tank, and to play wing these days you need a huge tank.
If King gets suspended. Caminiti to come in.
Wing will be Byrnes and or Jones. Jones was the sub and will come into the 22.
Wilson to also rotate through the wing.
Butler for Henry in the 22.
Garcia a good chance to be the Sub. Possibly Arie.

Re: Arie Schoenmaker to debut?
Look you are probably right. Just trying to reward a 19-year-old who was BOG for Sandringham in a losing side. If he’s a like-for-like for Battle, then he might be waiting a while to debut as there is probably only one spot for him … Battle’s. And Battle is fairly durable.Teflon wrote: ↑Sun 24 Mar 2024 12:06pm He won’t play wing

Then again, maybe he is a little less one-dimensional. Ross seems to be developing that type of versatility. Hybrid-type players who can run and play various positions and roles.

Re: Arie Schoenmaker to debut?
Yes wing we have good options. Hill, Byrnes, Wilson and Jones. All have very good tanks, even Jones while not at the level of the first three is still a good runner.
Sharman can also rotate through there. The coaches have been using Sharman both this season and last as a bit of a Mr Fixit, and he has responded well to different roles.
Henry is a big loss more for his midfield and forward work, than for play on the wing.
Though Butler back does improve the team. Butler was playing RTB Football before RTB returned to the Saints.
King will be a massive loss though if his one week suspension stays.

Re: Arie Schoenmaker to debut?
only way i see him playing is if King gets rubbed out - surely low impact and a fine,- and Cordy plays forward.
Jones in for Wood
Perhaps Crouch for Henry
Hastie the sub

Re: Arie Schoenmaker to debut?
Hope Max gets off with a fine. As far as Arie goes, one good game in the twos doesn't guarantee you much, surely he needs to string a few good games together before considered for senior selection. If Butler is fit enough, he would come in for Henry, and if Max does sit it out for a week, then I would have Cordy at CHF and Caminiti at FF, as I think Essendon's backline might be a bit brittle and two straight ahead tough bodies could work for us. Not sure about Pou to a wing, he is not quick off the mark, and you need to be a bit of a sprinter in that position, not just run along at one pace. I'm sure Lyon has something up his sleeve- it would be good to give Collard a run, sometimes these young X-Factor players can have a day out.
