Lance Collard
What a s*** way to debut - sub vest for nearly 3 quarters, then couldn’t pick up the pace of the game. 0 possessions
He will have that to remember for the rest of his life

Re: Lance Collard
I thought he got to all the right spots. How many inside 50's did we have after the time he came on?
Max King kicks it to him and he's got 2 goals in a quarter and it's a totally different story.

Re: Lance Collard
Yeah I agree.
I thought he actually did pretty well all things considered. He was in the right spot for a King pass that he should have goaled and he earned a free that King wasted as well. Did what you can reasonably expect but geeez it was a tough way to debut

Re: Lance Collard
Reckon Owens probably burnt him one too turning his back to goals and going back for a shank. Could probably have spotted up Lance on his own for about 15 seconds in the pocket for an easy goal but that will happen with the young guys until they earn the trust and familiarity of their more experienced teammates.
Agree that bringing a debutante on as sub is an unenviable position we probably shouldn't be putting the youngsters in. Really should be the opposite, sub them out if they're having no impact but let them start the game at least and work their way into it.

Re: Lance Collard
"the rest of his life"??
Fair crack of the sauce bottle BM, it's hardly momentous, it might even spur him on and I'm sure Ross Lyon will not give that another thought.
Collard is an exciting youngster with great potential and could easily become the next Liam Henry at St Kilda.

Re: Lance Collard
He won’t remember his AFL debut for the rest of his life?
Have you played an AFL game?? I reckon it’s a pretty significant thing?!
He should never started as sub - would of had Z Jones as sub
And subbed out Crouch in the 3rd both underdone and not capable of 4 quarters
Would’ve used Seb as a defensive mid

Re: Lance Collard
Or used Windhager as Sub
Definitely not a 68KG small forward!
Where the flexibility in that?

Re: Lance Collard
If it were my son
I’d be disappointed - flown over to watch 1.5 quarters
And watch him not touch the footy
Why Ross thought he was ready for a game against the experienced Geelong players down at Kardinya
Playing as a 1 position sub
s*** call - bizarre really
I know he hates Zak Jones - but if he was ok to play Crouch - surely Jones or Windhager as Sub? Of interrupted pre seasons

If the club didn't pick up the bill then Max King should feel obligated to offer to pay for their travel and accommodation.B.M wrote: ↑Sun 17 Mar 2024 12:19pm If it were my son

Re: Lance Collard
He was on a hiding to nothing tonight- horrendous selection
If I was offered to debut as a sub - I’d rather bide my time!

You can act like a princess or do the role for the team as asked of you by the coaching staff.
Your post states which one you lean toward.

Lucky for Carlton Ted Hopkins didn’t spit the dummy at 19th man.

Re: Lance Collard
Did we win?
Was he effective?
Again, horrendous selection- to have a one position debutant as sub who is clearly not AFL ready.
How did it pan out
As far as picking a team to win?!

Re: Lance Collard
There’s plenty of good reasons not to pick Collard.
“He might not have good memories of his first game” is not one of them.

Re: Lance Collard
His goal sense looks great. Was ready in the right position several times and looks like he can really stretch defences with his pace… just need to kick it to him! The chemistry will come.

Re: Lance Collard
A first game is quite often a player’s worst game. I don’t think he’ll be bemoaning it too much. He’ll be cherishing the part where he first got brought into the game and - no doubt - experienced the goosebumps on the back of his neck after first running out in front of an almost full house.

Re: Lance Collard
Exactly l hate the way our forwards turn their backs to the goals , they seem to all do it and then most miss the goalshrodes wrote: ↑Sun 17 Mar 2024 10:38am Reckon Owens probably burnt him one too turning his back to goals and going back for a shank.
