Let’s enjoy an honourable loss against a team of old men who never moved out of third gear. Very St Kilda to celebrate that.

Anyone who isn't proud of our team's effort and fight is a jerk. A few things go our way and we would have overtaken those hillbilly hicks
Sorry...did I say hicks...I meant pricks

Re: Another season of being of just a sh**ty football club.
We're better than what we showed last night. Huge on effort, but rusty on skill.
Still, we always give the former, while we can improve on the latter. The hillbilly "Dad's Army", will be no pushover down there this year, either.
Now can anyone teach us how to kick straight in front of goal?
I can't stomach the thought of going through another season missing shots that should be "bread and butter" types.
It is still our Achilles heel and has been for as long as I can remember. Five consecutive behinds in the first quarter, when we were on top, ended up costing us the game.
Bring back Buckets as our goal-kicking coach. He went from being one of the worst kicks for goal in the comp early in his career, to being amongst the best by the time he finished up. It would also continue the ongoing reunion of club greats in the coaching stable.
Finally, SydneySainter. Why do you bother?

Re: Another season of being of just a sh**ty football club.
I Understand the sentiments, even if the phrasing doesn't sit well with everyone. In 2004, St Kilda lost to the cats at Kardinia Park with under 10 points as the margin.
Both teams were contending then.
This year the cats are probably around the mark but without someone like selwood for the needed bits plus lots of players past their prime.
I see this being another development year for the saints. Not quite a premiership contender. So, yes, it feels like the saints are just a rung on the ladder for eventual premiers whomever it might be. I agree it's deflating.
The important thing as a supporter is to keep the focus on the short term and enjoy the day.

Geelong will finish 9-14th
So we just lost to an average team - who were +19 i50
Now we have the reigning premier licking their wounds

Re: Another season of being of just a sh**ty football club.
Whether they finish 9-14th remains to be seen. At the moment at near full strength and on the back of their first full pre=season in years, geelong look as good as anyone, particularly on their home patch. They have a solid defence, the best key forwards in the land and a fit and firing Dangerfield in the middle. At the moment they are top 4 quality.
Our game was easily the most high pressure contest of the opening rounds, many of the other games were 'bruise free' in comparison. It was real Finals pressure and a fierce contest. Remember no Sinclair, Clarke, Howard and Dow.
If the reigning Premier licking its wounds play like they have in the first 2 rounds, then we'll smack them. We're going to love the wide open spaces of the MCG.

Go and f*** yourself.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Keep Cordy in the team. He played a good backmans game.

Re: Another season of being of just a sh**ty football club.
I watched 4 games on the weekend
Ours was clearly the worst standard
Geelong won some big moments but weren’t impressive forward of the ball or behind the ball - but dominated in the middle
We were putrid through the midfield- ok at either end

Re: Another season of being of just a sh**ty football club.
Cats at full strength- which they were closer than us to - are going to contend in the same bracket as us 6 - 10.
It’s going to be a very up and down year for us.
We will lose games because of our woeful goal kicking, we will win games because our team defence keeps us within striking distance.
Questions will be asked of Windy, Owens , Pou , Hotton, Keeler , Van Es, Collard, Garcia and Shoenmaker this year.
We already know the answer for Nas and Wilson (yes I’ve gone early) - they will be super stars of the comp.
Who will join them ? who will be just be honourable servants ? and who won’t make the grade ?

Re: Another season of being of just a sh**ty football club.
Every club has young stars
Most clubs have more than us tbh
We have more GOPs than most clubs - our depth is ok - top end talent is lacking. Even our stars have weaknesses
Ro is not a good centre square ruckman - elite around the ground
Steele is a warrior - and a good stoppage two way runner - one paced and lacks polish
Sinclair is balanced. Composed and effective but does he dominate games
Nas is wonderfully balanced smart player - can lose 1v1 contests
Watched Melbourne vs Dogs
Petracca, Gawn and Oliver FMD
Dogs
Jamarra and Bont freaks
We have lots of good soldiers- but no commanders

Wow, it is almost like he has played less than 50 games, is only in his third season, and is still building his body....
If there is one young player on our list who I am confident will have a long and glorious career, it is Nas.

Re: Another season of being of just a sh**ty football club.
Sorry - did I shoot Bambi
I think Nas is already in our top 5 players - says a bit about our list profile- and is a jet - with some weaknesses - as most do
I’ll load up my gun again
Michito Owens is our most overrated player - very hyped
Is an undersized key forward who is good one vs one but only averages about a goal a game. Very average disposal and whilst he can create with his power - he can go missing.
If he goes into the midfield he can become a legitimate star - but as a forward he is just a medium tall who is dangerous more than constantly dominant

If we continue to throw him around and play him in the ruck he'll end being traded to Fremantle as steak knives and then he'll go to Carlton and become a gun finals playerB.M wrote: ↑Mon 18 Mar 2024 11:25pm Sorry - did I shoot Bambi

Another Bake ‘put him in the guts’ Acres you reckon?
He’ll never become a consistent match winner as a forward
The great power players
Bont, Dusty, Fyfe, Danger, Petracca, DeGoey
All graduated from being dangerous HFs to superstar mids
It’s what Heeney and Raynor haven’t done. Heeney finally played as a full time mid Sat and was BOG
He’s been a tease across HF
