Matthew Allison
Looks like he's last in the pecking order. Been at the club a fair while and now seeing first year players being selected and listed as emergencies. Horrible position to be in.
It's going to be really interesting to see how he responds. Will this push him into overdrive and get him playing with the kind of intensity required? He's going to have to go from first gear to fifth gear to get the coaches in his corner. He's fit, he's developed well physically, so he's in the right shape to finally take it on with gusto.
Let's hope he does.

Re: Matthew Allison
Needs to step up and dominate at VFL level. This has to be the sort of year where he becomes a leader on field and wins games off his own boot at that level.
He isn't going to get a sniff at AFL level until he does, and if he doesn't then he is first in line for delisting at years end.

Re: Matthew Allison
Kid has never been close unfortunately.
Seemed to be drafted high… miles off the pace and then inexplicably got his contract extended. Decision making pretty on point for that era.
Would have to turn things around very drastically to avoid being the first off the list but I dare say his papers were stamped long ago.

Yep. I reckon he knows he won't be around when his contract ends - He was our first round-pick in the 2020 Draft, back in the day when we thought draft 'picks' were blindly pulling names out in a hat. But good on him if he proves me wrong.

About time he started to dominate at Sandy otherwise he'll be out the door.

Re: Matthew Allison
The kid was never going to make it as an AFL player, it was a cluster that Gallagher extended his contract. He come from a really poor draft year, but he was just another shocking draft choice by the club at the time.cwrcyn wrote: ↑Thu 14 Mar 2024 9:12pm Looks like he's last in the pecking order. Drafting is not just pulling names out of a hat - and never has been
There are speculative selections - especially when the pool is 18 year olds from a competition for that age demographic
Simply, all Clubs have young players, Drafted and who do not impact, many returning to their previous Club with no AFL games to their credit
Were Sinclair, Marshall and Wilkie pulled from a hat?
Were Battle and others pulled from a hat?

Re: Matthew Allison
2020 being the exception, names were literally pulled from a hat.
Not only was there no footy played outside of the hub, recruiters were unable to scout.

Re: Matthew Allison
Where should he be played? And don't say Sandringham. Too obvious. Seriously, I haven't seen him play enough to make a judgment call. Those who have, let the rest of us know what is his best, or most likely position, if he gets called up to the seniors.

Re: Matthew Allison
Was a massive reach when drafted. He is a nice looking athlete. very average state league footballer
I think he’d be nothing special at suburban level

Re: Matthew Allison
From all reports struggles to get involved in the game. The only proposition would be down back, and given our current list, this would have to be for another club. North could use him right now with Goater out.Nick DalSanto Claus wrote: ↑Sat 16 Mar 2024 2:45am Where should he be played? And don't say Sandringham. Too obvious.
