Pretty short at Centre Half Forward.

Re: Round 1 team - official
I wonder who starts as sub? Conventional wisdom says Collard but he kind of is unique to the structure I’d have thought.
Coops flexibility seems important.
Seems to me that one of Windhager or Byrnes is the surplus in this equation. Perhaps Windy is on managed time?

Not if Jones is injured. And I suspect that is the reason for his non selection.

Re: Round 1 team - official
Ross Lyon is not a Jones fan
Lyon gave him some direct feedback at training- about taking the kick, and not trying to take on and beat 2/3 players
Jones argued back - Ross later heard saying I can’t put up with that s***!
Big effort by Collard
Sub I reckon

Re: Round 1 team - official
Or they're trying out some of the new guys without overloading the team with them? The players left out that you'd think would be in normally are known quantities so they're seeing where the new guys are at in what they can deliver in real games? The ones not playing this week may swap in over the next few?
Did the same last year getting games into the new recruits with no expectation of playing finals - I suspect they have a similar idea for this year before going full tilt next year

Gonski.
Be surprised if he gets back in the team this year on the basis of that story then.
Not a good career move to ever take on a coach like Ross.

I can remember Jones taking on 2/3 players a number of times. Can't remember him succeeding.

Re: Round 1 team - official
Jones also not known as a small forward, and played no minutes pre-season.
Would Clark have been picked this week if he was available having also played no preseason games ?. Sinclair would have but then again he is an AA.
Jones sounds like he has his work cut out to get back in Ross’ good books based on BM’s story. Unless he can force he his way back into the team, and play the majority of the season, he has no trade value and will be delisted for no return.

Re: Round 1 team - official
I have no idea but he was probably like, 50m out from goal and instead of taking the shot (knowing he can't kick more than 30m) he's tried to take them on running around instead of just putting it to the top of the square type thing. Am I close??The Fireman wrote: ↑Fri 15 Mar 2024 1:08amHow did you acquire this info BM ?

Re: Round 1 team - official
I dont know what RTB and Jones's relationship is like, but not accepting the feedback when given by the head coach is not the smartest move. I get the impression Jones is a fairly intense individual even whilst training, I'd hope RTB followed him up at a later time when he had settled down. You cant have older players not accepting direction in front of such a young list.

I wonder how many will be playing Kardinia Park for the first time. Half the team?

Re: Round 1 team - official
I've noticed in the past that Jones gets the ball then runs into trouble taking on players instead of passing off the ball, and under Lyon, you need to do the team thing.

Re: Round 1 team - official
I'm sorry to say SaintWiki but this squad looks anything but solid. We are looking at a 50 point thrashing unless our leaders really step up. The balance of experience and youth is way out of kilter for mine. I hope I'm wrong...
