That's very profound, Scollop. Sensible advice. Way too sensible for this time of year. The days before Round 1 are similar to the lead-up to Xmas. Full of excitement, hope, optimism, and enthusiasm.

Then, just like Xmas, round 1 and reality rarely meet our inflated expectations, but I live in hope. Just like most long-suffering Saints' supporters. In keeping with your post, it is wise to temper our expectations.

Brisbane and GWS were 1-2
GWS were 1-3.

There was a lot of change post byes last season.
GWS, Sydney, and Carlton were all out of the eight after round 15.

There is a fair chance it happens, but let's see how we look at the midway of the season. Our 2nd half of the year should be easier so I expect us to come storming into finals this year.

Well that's the most probable scenario, last two premiers on their own turf, one a Spud's game. We win in Geelong about once every 50 years, we never win a Spud's game.
As long as there is not a thrashing involved it's more palatable than losing the last two.
Hope it doesn't happen, but if it does will be interesting to see if Selectors keep their nerve. Please don't let us have more injuries.
What is it, to make finals a team needs to win 60%? So that ask for the remainder rises only marginally. Not the end of the world by any means. Lose 3 in a row, especially when all are to a serious rival for the 8, then it's all hands to the pumps.

I too think we're a good chance in both games . I really mean that. Collingwood are vulnerable this early in the year. Geelong are not as good as they think they should be.

I was telling him he need not try and predict the results and worry about outcomes...and neither
should our team. Maybe focus on prevention (as in prepare well and play the game with purpose) and we should win 1 or both.
