Re: Injury update
He played alright in the final against the Dogs!
But no, he was mostly injured
Funny thing is
Mason Wood played 90 games in 9 years at North
Hannebery played 208 games in 10 years at Sydney

Re: Injury update
On a different but related point:
Wood played 10 games a year at Norf which was more than double Hannebery’s annual output at the Saints which was 18 games in 4 seasons from 2019 - 2022 (5,8,2,3).
Shocking.

Re: Injury update
So what’s your point? That injury history is irrelevant when looking to draft/trade players because it’s a tough sport and anyone can get injured?
For every Mason Wood that works out ( and we didn’t give up much to get him) there’s 5 Dan Hanneberys’ who we gave up a fair bit to get.
Depending on all sorts of factors they’re sometimes worth the risk, Wood, Gardiner, but generally they don’t work out, ie Hannebery, Jesse Smith, (that pies player who was a top 10 pick we traded for and he had chronic hammy issues)

Re: Injury update
The point is that you pay players at a level that lines up with your expectation of their performance… and with recruits, it’s also reflected on the cost to get them.
At a certain point, you have to weigh up if you’re actually getting value for money.
Mason was a very low cost to get and my bet is his first contract was only pretty low to and obviously he has exceeded expectations handsomely
Hannebery was a mix of draft picks combined with a fairly high-moderate salary.
His game vs the Bulldogs has quickly become the most overrated performance of any player since Luke Ball’s first half in the 09 GF. He had a good first half, got crunched and faded badly in the second half along with much of the team
Overall… by any metric, the trade was an abject failure.
Tell me BM… he wanted one more year. Would you have given it to him?

I'm just glad we didn't take another 10 years to work out the Wood isn't a key forward.

No
I would not have extended his contract
He did a medical before he was traded in - not sure why he passed?
Surely they scanned him?

Re: Injury update
If you’ve read the same article as me, it was “rested as a precaution due to hip soreness.”
On the face of it, that doesn’t sound too bad. But, of course it’s an official club statement about injuries, which are about as reliable as election promises (and I might be being unfair to politicians).

Re: Injury update
After his last game against the Swans you seemed keen to retain him on a base contract.
Thank god the club saw better than putting the chips back on the table.

Re: Injury update
How many chips?
Rookie contract - rookie salary
Same as Peris - who played 1 game
Definitely not a senior list spot, but he plays 5 games at 25ppg
It’s better than 80% of rookies

Re: Injury update
A rookie the same as Wilkie, Marshall & Sinclair or a DFA like Wood and Bonner.
Most rookies are more likely not to make it, but I’d rather punt on an untried rookie than a broken down guy who could barely get on the park in 4 seasons and effectively played one vg game (his last) and one incredibly overrated game in a final at the GABBA.

Re: Injury update
You are right
Most rookies don’t make it. For every Marshall - there is 5 McLennans who won’t even debut.
One thing you know about Hannebery- he was a quality AFL player if fit.
Chances are he won’t be fit. But if he played last year instead of Peris - would it have mattered?

Re: Injury update
Well with the injuries we have before a ball has been bounced and our early draw, exploration year - the sequel is about to start.
Some players are going to need to stand up.
Or else.

Re: Injury update
Way more head trauma comes from non illegal acts.
Look at the 3 most recent retirements.due to head trauma in Mc Cartin Brayshaw and Murphy, hardly any of them came from illegal acts.
Concussions are the most common injury requiring hospitalisation and hardly any of them come from illegal acts.

Re: Injury update
It might actually work out well having our injuries now, while our draw is hard, because it might mean that we’ll have our numbers back once the draw gets a bit easier, and we can come home with a wet sail.
And let’s face it, most of those we really need back are due back by R2 or so anyway, with Sincs being the only one of really massive importance. Crouch, Jones and Battle are listed as available and Sincs and Windy look likely to be available by R2 at worst. Butler a week or two later.
Unless we have a crazy number of injuries we ought to be able to cover most guys pretty well, who aren’t in our best or most important 5 or so.
Last year Carlton were in the bottom 4 after R15 and they made the prelim, Sydney were bottom 4 after R14 and they made finals, and GWS were bottom 4 after R12 and they missed a GF by a point!
So if we’re 3-4 after the difficult first 7 but have most of our numbers back (and most of our most important), we could come home hard. Champion Data rate our draw the 2nd easiest, so after R7 it must be piss-easy.

Re: Injury update
According to SaintMike65 on BF:
Pou didn’t train today…just worked on the bike!
Butler, Sinclair, Windhager, Jones & Hayes trained
That’s an extremely good sign that Butts, Sincs, Windy and Hayes trained.
While our injury list is longer than we’d like and a lot longer than say Geelong’s (just Guthrie and Rohan), it’s still wayyyy better than it was this time last year, and most of the ones that really matter look likely to be available to play at some level by about R2.
Given what we were capable of last season with what was undoubtedly a weaker (and less experienced) team on paper, it’s hard to bot get excited at what we’ll be capable of this season, if we put it all together.

Re: Injury update
Someone else posted this:
Hayes, Butler, Jones (with helmet), Windy and Crouch all out there in full training. Sinclair and VanEs did early bit with main group then moved to rehab. Dow did some rehab.
Many times last year the club overestimated the return dates of those who were injured and it looks like that might be happening again this year.
If Butler and Hayes are in full training already they aren’t 3-5 weeks away.

Re: Injury update
I think the estimates are based on when they will be available for selection and include any conditioning/training block required post injuryAnythingsPossibleSaints wrote: ↑Thu 07 Mar 2024 7:31pm Someone else posted this:
