Re: Webster appalling
So if Simpkin plays R1 is is worth 6 or 8 that the Media are screaming for?
It seems now that outcome is no longer pertinent?
As long as the AFL are consistent from here on in .... no issue from me

Asking on the behalf Hunter Clark & Angus BrayshawLife Long Saint wrote: ↑Mon 04 Mar 2024 10:15amHe was concussed, so I'm not sure why any of those questions are relevant.
If you elect to bump when you have a clear choice, then you run the risk of suspension if the player is concussed, or was at risk of concussion due to the bump.
It doesn't matter if the initial contact was head high, the player was unconcious, taken off on a stretcher, or has visible facial injuries.
It was clear that Jimmy's hit was late, and unwarranted. It was a clear high hit, and the fact that Jimmy left the ground, virtually ensured that the hit would be high. If he'd stayed low then the it might have been an accidental head clash instead of the upper arm to the head.

Re: Webster appalling
Were you at the game? It was always going to be a tough match, and it was becoming a cauldron before the bump.
Jimmy needs to be suspended for an extended rest - that is given - however ... look at the picture above - you can see the umpire standing watching on - the same umpire that could feel the tension at the ground - we all could. The same umpire, who stood and watched as Simpkin fended off Hill to the face - you know the rule about high fend offs, and that they are now actually suspendable actions.
If the whistle was blown, no bump.......
There were actually chants in the crowd before the bump of "Here comes a Riot".
Literally the umpires had lost control of the game through non-decisions and passive umpiring.
None of this excuses Jimmy - but seriously - the AFL have to look at the Non Decisions of the game if they are trying to control the emotion of these young lads.

Judging the media and talkback today you would’ve thought Webster carried out a mass homicide at Arden st. Laughable some of the reactions. People even going after his family’s social media posts. Biggest overreaction to a football incident in history.

Not saying it was crowd driven - it was just a mess waiting to happen

Webster's tackle was just weak sh*t and I hope he gets whacked with a big penalty. I want to see the Saints get our next premiership, and with Websters types running around doing their own thing and not the team thing, then it sets us back again, as it has in the past with so many Saints loose cannons.

Last comparable incident was DeGoey on Elijah Hewitt last season and he got 3 weeks.
No call for 10 or ridiculous amounts like now.
It’s worth 4 and anything over is StKilda tax.

Re: Webster appalling
We see all the has beens, looking to get their name on media for relevance, piling in and upping each other to ensure they get their name up in lights
If the AFL is governed by this, they have a problem
That said, to get to the next step what we do require is a defender capable of negating the elite small forwards across the competition - and, in my view and for a raft of reasons, the 30 year old Webster is not the answer
So opportunity now beckons
The likes of Sinclair and Wanganeen-Milera are too valuable on the rebound for this responsibility and I view Stocker too slow
Paton is injured
So who have we got who fits the requirements?
Because there are some class small forwards across the competition who can tear you up big time
All that said (with the summary that Webster is expendable as covered), there was simply no justification for the act yesterday
It was irresponsible and just plain stupid
And paints the Club in a poor light
The penalty applied needs to reflect the action and the outcome in regard the injured player
And be consistent across the competition - not “sending a message”
The “message” has been sent
Webster has transgressed
The penalty needs to be consistent with the transgression (not courtesy of media pile on)
Then you get to a Coach responding to opposition players (why Howard?) inflaming matters
So there needs to be a message and penalty applied to Clarkson
Was this the first time Clarkson has so inserted himself into such things?
I think not
In the expectation of Howard being absent for a period, he will be sorely missed because we just do not have a 199cm key defender in reserve
No doubt the form of a couple of our kids, starting with one in particular, was pleasant to watch
But we had plenty of quiet players
Mind you if Higgins kicks 4.0 and not 0.4 the assessment would be different
Despite his lack of overall impact
Our record at Geelong is abysmal - or worse!!
Noting we beat them when the whips were cracking at the end of last season at Docklands

Unfortunately, the fans he thought he was speaking to, was a shrubbery in the RSEA Car Park.Devilhead wrote: ↑Sun 03 Mar 2024 7:36pm So reported on BF that Simpkin was walking around afterwards looking ok speaking to fans
Sure the hit looked bad but it doesn't seem like Simpkin was injured and will be fine to play Round 1
Yet media with their knives drawn Webster will be sure to get to get 6 minimum

I'd bet London to a brick that both those players would love to see the action we saw from Webster suspended for a long time.Devilhead wrote: ↑Mon 04 Mar 2024 4:17pmAsking on the behalf Hunter Clark & Angus BrayshawLife Long Saint wrote: ↑Mon 04 Mar 2024 10:15amHe was concussed, so I'm not sure why any of those questions are relevant.

Re: Webster appalling
If you are genuinely repulsed by Jimmy's bump then you are a brainwashed hypocrite and must give up watching AFL.
What Jimmy did was wrong and he will pay the penalty and be rushed back into the side by Lyon quicker than the speed of light. Why? Players like Jimmy win you premierships becasue players will hear footsteps when playing our side and Lyon loves these types of players in his side.
CTE is a serious issue and the only way to avoid it is don't play AFL, it's now a parenting choice.
In the meantime enjoy the multi billion dollar brutal sport that makes a lot of people rich. Our modern day Gladiators put their health at risk for the fame and riches and our entertainment.

Re: Webster appalling
Forgive me for sniffing the raw stench of hypocrisy again.
Now Webster was stupid and deserves to be rubbed out.
But it wasn't long ago that Thug Maynard ironed out Brayshaw in a career-ending act and got ... absolutely no penalty.
Now the same geniuses who claimed that was "a defensive action" are howling for an 8-10 week penalty for Webster.
They will get their wish.
And ten weeks down the track a player from a more powerful club will do exactly the same and get 4 weeks.

As there will be no AFL superstar compensation and he doesn't play with a "big club", Jimmy will get 6-8wks.
It was no worse than SPP's hit, but the AFL will go hard at him.

It was worse than the SPP bump every way you look at it. Webster lined up the guy, elbow up and jumped off the ground which makes it head high. You do that kind of thing, you wear the sh*t that goes with it. A good opening for another backline player to be developed in Webster's place for many weeks.

It was worse than the SPP hit, but the elbow was clearly firmly tucked in at the point of impact. It came up after impact as it always does.spert wrote: ↑Tue 05 Mar 2024 7:22amIt was worse than the SPP bump every way you look at it. SPP was not helped by the tackle from his team mate that swung the other player into his path. He still chose to bump, but in years gone by, he might have argued that charge down. Jimmy has no such out.
