Re: Webster appalling
So reported on BF that Simpkin was walking around afterwards looking ok speaking to fans
Sure the hit looked bad but it doesn't seem like Simpkin was injured and will be fine to play Round 1
Yet media with their knives drawn Webster will be sure to get to get 6 minimum

He was clearly knocked out
I was 10m from it - he didn’t know where he was for a few mins

I believe Jimmy just ended his own career, "Hoisted by his own petard". (Shakespeare. Hamlet uses the phrase in Act 3, Scene 4, of the eponymous play.)
Having quoted Shakespeare, let me swing to Derryn Hinch. "Shame Jimmy, Shame! "
And not forgetting Barry from Broadmeadows, "What the F*** were you thinking, man? "

Jimmy has been a stalwart ..fair and selfless..an honest slogger and to have a supporter describe him as above for me is just shitful .. the opposite to supporter
He f***ed up and will 6 but cannot wait till he gets back

Re: Webster appalling
Well there are some saying he wasn't who were also apparently 10m from it
Seems to be a lot of people 10m from it with differing takes
It looked to be a shocking hit but Simpkin seems to have come out it relatively unscathed .... Webster won't of course

Re: Webster appalling
The AFL have sent a clear message about these kind of "tackles" related to concussion issues, and until players start to get real about it, then the suspensions and penalties will keep getting bigger

The AFL certainly did giving him a free pass for blatantly knocking out Brayshaw.

Re: Webster appalling
Some hyperbole, but are you going to try argue that Maynard’s hit was anywhere near as bad as Jimmy’s?

Re: Webster appalling
Did you watch the replay? Clearly knocked out and would miss next week with concussion if they were playing.
Was a worse hit than the Port bloke last week and he got 4 weeks, so we should prepare ourselves.

I saw a groggy Simpkin on the replay not sure he was knocked out cold .... some saying he was ... some saying he wasn't
The only thing we need to prepare ourselves for is replacing Webster with Battle or Sinclair or Crouch or Jones or Windhager or Dow .... it ain't the end of our season

Re: Webster appalling
BTW if Webster gets 6 or so then so be it .... all I ask for is consistency from the Tribunal which we never seem to get
It's looking like they will take a harder line this year ... no issue from me .... that is of course until a player from a bigger club does something stupid in a Final whereby they will find any reason to allow them to play

so long as they apply the same across the full season. Which history says they won’t.
All sorts of special pleasing that comes in when it’s a high-profile player from a big club and when finals are near or started.
It’s the inconsistency that kills me.
So whatever Webster gets, the club should demand for any similar incidents across the season
The AFL affiliated media are out for blood . CH 7 said he was severely concussed (didn't appear to be ) , so he should get at least 8 weeks.
But I will love it when a big club star player irons someone out and that same media makes excuses for the player .

Hard you would think he pulled an Andrew Gaff by the reactions going around on social media. 10 years ago this a nothing more than a tough/hard footy act.nostalgicsaint wrote: ↑Sun 03 Mar 2024 5:00pm Bad action by an otherwise respected, tough and clean player.
6 weeks but let's not murder the blokes character. He made a mistake and will cop his punishment for it.
Shame on max rooke and his coward coplaintiffs for what they’ve done to the game.

Re: Webster appalling
Maynard's collision was the aftermath of him actually trying to smother the ball. Jimmy's was just a bad decision to jump in and crunch the player.
That said, I'm still a fan of Jimmy's -- one of the truly courageous footballers around.
I feel sure he was aiming at a hip and shoulder encounter. But his arm hit Simpkin's head..
Not as bad as many are making out. But under today's rules he is responsible, and should have known

Re: Webster appalling
Are you also embarrassed by your complete lack of a sense of humour? I've been a fan of Jimmy for all of his career, but I fear a lengthy suspension will end it. Too many promising youngsters and others such as Stocker and Bonner will prove to be upgrades. The Fireman wrote: ↑Sun 03 Mar 2024 8:27pmAnother supporter who I feel embarrassed to be involved withNick DalSanto Claus wrote: ↑Sun 03 Mar 2024 7:59pm I believe Jimmy just ended his own career, "Hoisted by his own petard". He's always been a tough nut, a rich man's Ben Long if you like, but what he did was just plain stupid. There was nothing tough about it either. A pity all round.
We don't know one another, so the "threat" of non-associating with me is as empty as it is childish.
Cheers.

Re: Webster appalling
The smart way would be to apologise, put your hand up and acknowledge that it was a poor act and throw yourself at the mercy of the tribunal. Then show the K Pickett bump on Bailey Smith from last season and see what happens.
There’s no mitigating circumstances … best not to be a pickle and carry on at stage

I think we should remember that Jimmy is a heart and soul Saints veteran. He has made a mistake and will pay the penalty Was one of our best on ground before that incident, and should win his spot back in a few weeks.
