I watched the 04 prelim recently and while the crowd disruption helped Port, I think its impact on the outcome of the game has been overblown as Port were slowly getting back into the game at that point or at least had stopped the momentum.

Guerra never looked like kicking that goal and it would have only levelled the scores. It wasn’t even a half chance.

Who was on Wanganeen? Aussie Jones? He tore us a new one and singlehandedly won them the game.

Max, who looked lost throughout the game had a mare on Tredrea too which didn’t help.

I agree, I think like many other "controversies" in recent St Kilda history, this gets overblown, especially as time goes by.

When did he kick his 100th, 10 minutes into the first quarter to put us 3 goals up? There's a hell of a lot of game to still play after that.

Port hadn’t even been inside 50 by the time of the ground invasion. The way things were going we could easily have been 6 goals up by quarter time, had Port not had that chance to regroup.

The way we started that game was some of the most scintillating footy I’ve ever seen us play.

I suppose the other debatable aspect is would we have beaten the Lions the following week as is believe by some pundits on the belief the Lions were cooked, which they were but Port had their measure arguably more than we did so who knows.

From memory, at one stage deep into the first quarter, Roger James had 80% of Port’s possessions. He totally rogered us.

I have no doubt whatsoever that if the crowd did not invade we would have led by 5 goals at quarter time instead of the mesley 5 points. Would that have given us the win? We will never know!!!!

Yeah he had more disposals than most of the rest of their team put together.

Dow behind schedule on return from knee bone bruising (3-4 more weeks away from full training)

It was 40 possessions to 5 or something when Gehrig kicked his 100th. They literally couldn’t get their hands on the footy

Clark has reportedly pinged a calf.

In better news, Jones has returned to full training after exiting concussion protocols.

They reckon Windy and Sincs are touch-and-go for R1 it seems. Listing them both as 2-3 weeks.

So our midfield could potentially be without Clark, Sincs, Windy and Dow for R1.

Thankfully there was no mention of Crouch in the injury report.

Reports are here, also press conference on saints.com.au with SIncs.

https://www.saints.com.au/news/1496652/ ... t-new-blow

I would say Clark and Dow are 0% chance, Windy and Sincs about 40% chance. Jones and Crouch 100% pending anything happening between now and then.

I am very concerned about on going injuries to important players. The omens are not good. Very worried about first two games. If you don't run at 70% wins forget it.

Clark calf injury is disappointing. We may never get to his true potential due to injuries and time missed

Brisbane beat us by 80 points in the first final, and by 50 points the next time we played them in 2005. We wouldn't have won the 2004 Grand Final. That is just sophistry.

True, they owned us but that was in Brisbane. it would have been a very different kettle of fish in Melbourne where we had beaten them in the same season and the year before, albeit at TD.

Sinclair is the only player I’m concerned about not coming up in time for the early part of the season as he is a match winner and the others are not. While it’s not ideal to not have a full list to choose from, the other players are replaceable. Henry, Bonner and Wilson should be good enough to take these spots.

What’s concerning about Clark is that he seems to be getting injured very easily… incidentally even

Sophistry - had to look that up. Very good word for context of discussion!

Was there on the outer wing as a youngster flying the flag in '66 - still loyal, still passionate!

The ongoing injury situation of Jones and Clark is a worry- not sure if a coach would try and plan a team with those two, as I can't see either playing a full season sadly.

The next time St Kilda played Brisbane in Melbourne, we had our largest win of all time.

Jones is available after serving concussion protocols.

The same was said about Mason Wood and look at his year last year.
