Hunter Clark is injured again and looking at 6 weeks...
Enough is enough.
Time to move him on and get the best possible draft pick for him. Even if it is just a late second rounder so be it. We cannot afford to have players continually injured. Get rid of him and move on........

Yep
We should get rid of every player who gets injured
Trade them all for second rounders
Elite athletes playing a contact sport should never get injured

Re: Hunter Clark is injured again and looking at 6 weeks...
With injuries, you just have to plan for your best team and have contingencies in place. The alternative to training hard and being injured pre-season is being injured mid-game, mid-season. Last year proved the value of a fit and hardened 22 on the park.
Reducing training loads to prevent injuries is also just going to end up with a worse side altogether. A few injuries in exchange for a boost to the overall fitness of the team is not a terrible thing.
For Hunter, he is important but replaceable. He might find it hard to make it into the side if others like Pou and Garcia come on strong, and Jones stays fit. There is definitely no HBF spot for him anymore and would need to play inside midfield.

Not sure about RL's view of chronically injured players who are in and out of the team. Success relies a lot on consistency and keeping stability across the lines, not swapping players in and out of positions. Clark and Jones are great additions when fully fit, but seem like their bodies are eggshells right now.

We’ve kind gone a bit early here…
No point getting rid of him now… 10 months time he’s either a regular in the top 22 and looking good or he’s either a bit player that’s always injured or someone who is simply down on form and borderline top 22.
That outcome pbly drives the decision making

Cm’on skeptic, you’re being a bit too rational there, I think the OP was wanting more emotive responses to its postskeptic wrote: ↑Wed 28 Feb 2024 12:07pm We’ve kind gone a bit early here…

We cant keep stringing along these perpetually injured players, hoping it will change. A lot of Clark's injuries have been unlucky, but it hasnt changed so he has to be in the gun to be traded at years end. Jones is another if he cant stay fit he has to go, and I think Paton's future is already written.

Hunter Clark can play football.
He is payed well to play football.
There are other options that can be utilised.
Then Hunter will have to get himself back in the team.
8 weeks of a younger player playing his role won't help our finals chances but it will improve our list.
If Hunter is any good we will see it when he returns.
If he doesn't get back in he is handy depth for a team obviously in form.
If he does come back and plays his best, he could make a difference to our back half.
Hunter hasn't lived up to his selection, for what ever reasons.

I imagine the current list management and coaching staff will see that there is no benefit in dumping him right now so we'll just have to see how it pans out, and surely they will have plans in place for whatever eventuates. It's not as if this is a new issue per se.

So, in recruiting players either by drafting or attracting them from other Clubs, the caveat with the St Kilda FC is that if you cop a couple of injuries which cost you game time, and which happen in the AFL competition some injuries costing a season, you are on your bike.
St Kilda FC does not want you.
Simply, you identify class footballers AND, if they are injured, you back in your rehabilitation resources.
Mind you, if St Kilda FC just jettison, think of the savings from not having to have rehabilitation resources.
And, as these players are booted, think what that would do to culture, a culture where you stand alongside your mates including thru adversity.
Not kick them on the way out the door.
And, to add, why is the injury prone Max King still on St Kilda's books?
Send him off to Gold Coast.

Recent history shows we are generous & supportive to a fault in regard to players with serious or chronic injury issues. A number of those players have not reciprocated. Saints look after their own.

Max King is a 202cm athlete who can dominate games.Killa wrote: ↑Thu 29 Feb 2024 7:12pm So, in recruiting players either by drafting or attracting them from other Clubs, the caveat with the St Kilda FC is that if you cop a couple of injuries which cost you game time, and which happen in the AFL competition some injuries costing a season, you are on your bike.

Clark is an average AFL level half back who has shown 15 games of promise as a clearance winning, evasive mid, who gets impact injuries fairly often.
Mmmm. Let's not get too carried away.

He had his nose broken in a collision with a team mate while both were bravely in a pack trying to win a contested ball at a crucial time in the final quarter of a tight match. I saw Hunter a few weeks after that injury, it was a bad break.
Brave footballer with skills we are desperately short of. To me he is a bit like Russell Greene.
Your friendly neighbourhood samurai.
