Super Bowl thread
I know it’s not AFL but I am fortunate to have the day off and am watching.
It is such a weird circus.
So much self importance - they play the na to O’Malley’s anthem and players have tears streaming down their cheeks.
A story about a place in Hawaii that had a natural disaster and apparently the local football team emerged as the most important thing in the town’s recovery effort
Constant shout outs to celebrities and talks about ads
You’ve got to give them credit - that marketing machine has created something that is apparently completely special but reeks of BS.
Crowd doesn’t feel as passionate or me as an AFL audience at a GF

I think I pbly agree with you but I’m curious. And watch is a strong word… with all the stoppages you just do other things. Have already worked a few more chapters of Winmar’s book in.
Score is still 0-0

Re: Super Bowl thread
Has actually been pretty interesting as far as Superbowls go
0-0 is notable (if not a bit boring). Both defenses and punters playing quite well early
The innocuous sideline Achilles injury celebrating
The fumbles and turn over
The trick play TD
I’m enjoying it so far as a neutral observer who has seen quite a bit of football but hardly a tragic

Wasn’t that fascinating… and what a strange injury. What did he step forward too hard?

Wow
Into overtime.
Chiefs did every play they could to win it and opted to tie instead with 3s on the clock

League without offside. Body armour and unfathomable time outs. Football where lowest statistics are # of kicks. Cultural bizarre-ness.

Correct on all counts. And it was loooong. Game started at 1030 with 14min quarters and finished around 1530 with OT
On a side note though… boy what an ending. About as big a thriller as possible

Re: Super Bowl thread
It is a bizarre game -- hard to know how it evolved into what it is and actually survived.
It's almost the opposite of footy, but it's the only other football code I'll watch.
It's brilliant, in tiny bursts. With amazing technical analysis and crazy palaver packed all around it.

Gutted. Been a Niner fan since 1988. Should’ve been up by a heap but fate is part of this game. Fumbles, blocked kicks, etc. I love the tactics and players being moved like chess pieces.

I was backing the Niners, I've had enough of Mahomes.Bin Chicken wrote: ↑Tue 13 Feb 2024 8:06am Gutted. Been a Niner fan since 1988. Should’ve been up by a heap but fate is part of this game. Fumbles, blocked kicks, etc. I love the tactics and players being moved like chess pieces.
I thought SF were the better team for most of the game, but that Mahomes drive to win the game just felt inevitable.

Re: Super Bowl thread
There is offside at the start of each play. If you're in the neutral zone before the snap you are offside and it's a penalty.
Old enough to repaint, but young enough to sell
