Training Reports
Hi guys, I’m either OS or interstate until early April so no chance of seeing any training.
I really enjoy the training comments by saint Mike, BM and others and eagerly await the next installment.
Thanking you in advance

Re: Training Reports
Here’s one from the club. Pretty exciting news re Collard. Human highlights reel who is probably a couple of good praccy matches away from taking Butler’s spot in R1. We might have ourselves a gem there.

Re: Training Reports
Winmar in his book listed the names of the famous W A local Aboriginal families. Collard was one of them.

Re: Training Reports
I'll be there next Wednesday but don't expect an enlightening report. I'm still trying to learn who all the players are.
The draftees and those that have changed numbers have made it hard for an old bloke to know who he's watching.
What i do know is Hayes and probably Jones will be training away from the group.
They will be my first 2 delistings at years end.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Re: Training Reports
What happened to Caminiti at training today, 9 news showed his head bandaged and extra bandaging around one of his ears.
Did one of his team mates try to pull his ear back to it's sticky out position, bet it was someone who is always injured.

Re: Training Reports
Is this a new development with Jones? All reports so far indicate that he is fit, firing and killing it at training

Re: Training Reports
Recent reports I’ve read have said he’s being “ managed”, or words to that effect. Which may mean he has a niggle, or isn’t able to get back up to full speed without feeling something, or it may just mean he’s fully fit and they’re just pacing him.mad saint guy wrote: ↑Sun 04 Feb 2024 12:08pmIs this a new development with Jones? Re: Training Reports
Let's hope it's the latter, He's best 22 and a point of difference when fit and firing but if he can't stay fit for a large chunk of this season then it's time to cut ties.AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote: ↑Sun 04 Feb 2024 12:14pmRecent reports I’ve read have said he’s being “ managed”, or words to that effect. I think it’s the latter. Looks fully fit at training and does most of the work but we don’t know how he pulls up afterwards.

Re: Training Reports
Jones would be a fantastic decoy at stoppages for Steele and Wilson, who will be getting pressured near by. Marshall is also very good at killing throw ins and clearing paths in stoppage.
If it comes together we will go from a defensive stance at stoppage to a very attacking and dangerous combo. Then there is Hill, Bonner, NWM, Henry and Wood on the peripheral.
I really hope Seb Ross stays fit too. We look very exciting all of a sudden. Let's not wear out the mature players while the young fleet footed hopefuls bust their guts to get a show in.

Re: Training Reports
I think people underestimate how handy a fit Jones would be. Even in the Ratten years we were far better with him in the team.CQ SAINT wrote: ↑Sun 04 Feb 2024 7:10pm Jones would be a fantastic decoy at stoppages for Steele and Wilson, who will be getting pressured near by. Re: Training Reports
Most over rated player on our list now that Billings and Gresh have left. Sprays it left right and centre. Will play one good game every four and then get injured. Just can't rely on him to be healthy, and when he did get healthy, I recall Ratts being very critical of hime because he just couldn't get his hands on the ball as a mid. Complete waste of space as far as I'm concerned and should be cut when his contract expires. Looks great when things come off because he runs hard and is aggressive but more often than not he's a disappointment. Finally we're getting some turnover in players through our midfield with Owens, Pou, Wilson all coming through.

Re: Training Reports
He'll have to earn his place in future, however, when recently re-watching the matches from last year he did some good things when he was around, but not consistent enough for a team looking to climb. A problem with players who are in and out from injuries don't provide their team mates upfield a big enough sample to know the best place to be when he's under pressure.Moods wrote: ↑Mon 05 Feb 2024 5:04pm Most over rated player on our list now that Billings and Gresh have left. Re: Training Reports
I think the see ball, get ball, kick ball days of Richo and Ratten are over. It's clear our game will be designed to go back and sideways to booming accurate kicks. Jones gives us mongrel that doesn't exist without him. He just needs the support fr9m the right players around him. We have some very clever outside players now. Seb just doesn't have the explosiveness he once did. I just hope they both get strong and hold together, so Owens can focus on the first touch out of clearance.

Re: Training Reports
I love how people bag players out for getting injured
Like it’s their fault
I’ll say it again
It’s a brutal sport, injuries happen - even at training - have a bit of an understanding

Re: Training Reports
I think it’s heightened by having had a few players that are seemingly always injured always and the team having such a bad run of it especially last year but certainly in recent seasons. The Fireman wrote: ↑Mon 05 Feb 2024 7:26pmThe lack of support for Jones has been glaring in the pastCQ SAINT wrote: ↑Mon 05 Feb 2024 7:23pm I think the see ball, get ball, kick ball days of Richo and Ratten are over. I said in another post that for me… 2 of Jones, Dmac and Billings needed to go. I’d have kept Billings myself but Jones is my fav of the bunch minus the fact that I simply have no confidence in his ability to run out a game. Seems if he runs hard… which is kind of expected of him as an explosive player, he’ll tweak something.
Wouldn’t surprise me to see Jones playing in a less role that sees him run less in 2024
Many, obviously not all… just reached the point of tiring to wait for a player to play his best

Tony are the team going away for a camp at any stage? Most other clubs seem to have done it.

Could Jones play as a specialist sub?
Sounds ridiculous but it could work. He has impact and the question is if he can run out games well enough/recover well enough to repeat the effort the next week.
