DFC

Post: # 2040436Post older saint »

Reading both the Melbourne papers it appears that once again the off field St.Kilda has found a way to turn a positive thing such as the DFC into a poor PR position.

While the details are sketchy it appears that the club is now charging for services and rent to the charity.

Surely if this is required financially this could have been managed much better, rather than after the story and headline breaks making a statement that these will be charged, once profitable.

Caught with pants down or otherwise hoped no one would notice.

Just when on field things start going well, they sh*t the bed off field with PR.

I can find one article behind a paywall for a site that I've never heard of.
If it wasnt the DFC and some other charity utilising our facilities, would it be newsworthy?
How many landlords let the Salvos or St Vinnies set up shops and processing centres rent free? Betting it would a big fat zero!

What a non-story!

Don't believe anything that is written by shock jock Rupert Murdoch press - as normal there are no facts & full of hate about a progressive project/servive that the saints are providing.

The club statement provides facts & sums up the situation

As a forum mate of mine suggested sometimes its best to leave doubt, where it lies.

I'm beginning to come across to that idea.

It seems that ignorance can truly take the form of bliss for the uninformed. False outrage goes pretty much hand in hand and may be another form of bliss.

What we have here is a very well balanced forum and a very well managed club.

There is bliss all around at the moment.

I've just dropped 7 kilo since Dec 1st and back in the gym 6 days a week after a 60 hour a week year, of self abuse

A little less sugar would leave me with none. A little sweetener after meals is good therapy.

I have lots of time on my hands now. I'll work on it.

Well done, keep up the good work, it will give you longevity on this planet, and let’s face it, us Saints Men could need to take up the full length of the landing strip if we are a chance of seeing flag number 2.

Oh and btw it’s noticeable you have more time on your hands😜

It wouldn't be pre season without a Bull Shite story coming out of St kilda.
We have always been and will continue to be the Media's whipping boys until we win multiple premierships .
It's the easiest thing to do because if you tell them to get stuffed they just crap on about how " we've only won one flag , we've been wooden spooners 27 times , we've got a poor culture , we're broke , blah blah blah etc etc....."

What's alleged by the Hun article?

The media release seems like a ho-hum explanation of how it all works without the context of a Murdoch beatup.

Very hard to form an opinion without knowledge of the DFC structure and the arrangement between club, landlord, service providers etc but it’s a forum so I’ll have a crack from NFP experience.

On a broad assumption that the DFC is a NFP it seems normal that the club will have arrangements in place for when the DFC will be able to contribute and that independent auditors assess these milestones.

I have seen similar arrangements in the past where the NFP seems to incur significant expenses which affect its ability to meet milestones and trigger the payment commitments.

No idea what’s going on here, and I have certainly been critical of our club’s administration in the past, but their statement in this instance appears to be sound and the HS article smells of an organization using sympathy and the name of the DFC to delay their financial commitments or not undertake audits.

Just my opinion, not facts to back it up.
Let’s hope a foundation set up for the benefit of mental health is not destroyed by this issue.

Not sure about the DFC and how it helps the club?

I’m only interested in things that are going to help us win a 2nd flag!

I believe there is a pool in there? That’s something

And a grandstand outside of it

Other than that - don’t see its relevance

yeah.. a lot of this type of stuff is outside my realm of interest. Tend to agree with BM .. if it helps get a flag.. I'll have a closer look

Having something to do with AFL Cape York House I can tell you that all roads lead back to the AFL and its "partners" in terms of self interest so I'd be certain the DFC has a self interest component about it without question.

So in a round about way the money from the AFL that keeps our club afloat and viable is in a sense there to help us win a flag and so the money it will take to win a second flag will come from all types of government subsidised arrangements outside of the commercial arrangements with AFL "partners".

As a side note the DFC has quickly developed a reputation for being poorly managed...especially the pool.

The Danny Frawley Centre is powered by AIA vitality. Lol

At $2600 a year, membership and revenue from membership would be booming. Not.

How fortunate for the players and those generous enough to buy memberships and the AFL of course for writing off profit for Danny's match and several other fund-draining events visited by key speakers from Ray Chamberlain's management company.

Insurance and charity and not for profits. It's a tangled web but we can't rely on the government to fund everything. Oh, wait a minute.

I'm sure we all know someone who has a DFC membership. I rushed out and bought one as soon as I could. Haha.

People who buy AIA health insurance get 'AIA Vitality' built into their cover at a cost of $10 bucks a month, meaning you can have your health improvement tracked through surveys and mobile devices. This constitutes as research. Specialists get paid to study and write programs you can access, too.

If you go to Terry White Chemist and get a health check from a heart rate monitor, it will tell you how fit you are. Then you get a tailored program which is like these get fit diet and exercise programs people sign up for from a fitness guru on line, who you will never meet.

I'm still using my Jane Fonda workout videos. Hahaha.

Our involvement would be to provide venue, catering and blah blah blah and then pay for our community programs with it, while employing staff and acquiring assets we couldnt normally pay for.

Local charities raise funds for our fee for service youth develop programs too. It's a win/win.

We don't want to be s*** forever and own nothing do we?

Of course it all our fault cause the Herald said so and people will believe it and not look were the real corruption err, I mean charity lies.

If you have an issue, don't buy health insurance and pay a Medicare levie all all the other suckers.

Nailed it !

But here's the thing, we are all seagulls on a beach waiting for a human to throw a chip our way.

My only regret in life was to wake up late on how to get your sticky fingers in the cooky jar.

My advice to all new parents is to educate your young early on the location of the cooky jar.

And just because it's corrupt money doesn't mean it's a bad thing, as I say I have had a bit to do with AFL Cape York House and it does good things whilst at the same time serving the interests of the AFL and its "partners".

My final word is this...even Pablo Escabar did good things whilst serving his self interest.

Make no mistake about it though, be rest assured Richard Goyder gave Rupert a call over that piece, the convo would have gone down something like...

Hello Rupy!, please let those involved in that piece know their careers will be cut off at the knees if they ever attempt to hurt the golden goose again....thanks for the call Rick, leave it with me.

I was once part of a team that sent two local boys from rural football to Brisbane at 15, it killed my team and cost us the best juniors the club ever had. It was the culmination of ten years of junior development in the AFL area development officer program.

We got a s*** wage for an explayer and a 16 year old trainee, all the footy merchandise we could handle and fantastic travel and lifestyle perks.

One made it for a while at Carlton they other got injuries.

The boys were paid rookie wages when they were recruited, which were less than a produce manager at Coles earned, as one of the parents lamented afterbthe kid left his school, his coomunityand his job stacking fruit.

The club got a new ground and the AFL put in $14k for some lights because the local council wanted to hold cattle and farmers in their $100k fifth wheelers on the oval during beef week and the Ag Show.

3 flags later, those jobs disappeared and the hired real administrators to run the local comps. I ran independent free training camps, funded by grants and sponsorship.

I should have charged. Lol

Absolutely you should have charged and big.

Then you could find clients who could pay big by offering government subsidises to clients who qualify for [Insert social welfare cause] susbsidies. You then should have bought on commercial "partners" to provide a wide range of subsidised services. And of coarse you would be a major share holder in the business of your commercial "partners".

Not only would you be double and triple dipping into rivers of government subsidies, you'd be receiving healthy dividends from your commercial "partners".

It's a beautiful thing.

If you ever need some ideas on good business planning read the book by Michael Warner titled the The Boy's Club.
