David King on St Kilda 2024
I can't believe it, David King, who normally goes out of his way to bag St Kilda, has actually predicted on SEN that they will improve in 2024, quite extraordinary!!
His rationale is the same as mine, St Kilda finished 6th last year and have in the view of most commentators added considerable talent in the draft and trading periods in November, giving the club a better list heading into the new season. Add the likely improvement by the 2nd and 3rd year players and it justifies my belief they will finish top 4.
https://www.sen.com.au/news/2024/01/12/ ... -training/
Right now Sportsbet has St Kilda at $2.50 to make the 8 (11th), and $8 for top 4 - a good time to place a few hard-earned on both options!!

Re: David King on St Kilda 2024
I think King's assessments of St Kilda have always been quite fair. I think he's the best analyst in the game. He's not a headline grabber like Cornes, nor is he a conceited wanker like Brereton, who is becoming increasingly irrelevant and out of his depth as each season passes.
King has been hard on us at times, but he's never had an agenda. He's realistic about our capabilities and he's a track watcher who does his homework, which is more than can be said for may so-called analysts.

Re: David King on St Kilda 2024
Heath being ready for debut is hopefully going to happen in 24 for no other reason than to get a look at him at AFL level in 24.
Sounds like Keeler might not be ready for debut in 24 or at least early in 24.

Heath just got lapped in a 3k by Cordy. He will be natch ready for the VFL in round one. Campbell will have to run 75 percent of the game though.

Wouldn't be the first player to not perform well in tbe 3KTT
A player did it last year and ended up playing in a final.

And yet Lyon picked him for nearly every game of the H&A and picked him over Howard in the final

I haven't bet for years but with those odds it's very tempting.

Look, everyone has lost count of the laps sometime; Heathy boy was just saving his sprint till later, daydreaming as he felt so good in running, then, what the...?

David King claims the Saints are a flag 'smokie' and is full of praise.
https://www.sen.com.au/news/2022/05/06/ ... p-smokies/
We won 6 of the next 15 games, and two of those wins were basket cases North and Adelaide.
Ratts sacked.

The bloke is a dick who gets way more wrong than he gets right. I'm not seduced by his rare, positive prediction for us.
Still waiting for closure ... if you get my drift.

Re: David King on St Kilda 2024
I’m amazed that anyone can recall any commentator’s pre-season predictions about us from past years.
But, if King has usually been negative about us, then that doesn’t make him biased. It makes him right.
We’ve missed the finals 10 out of the last 12 seasons. We’ve usually been crap.

Re: David King on St Kilda 2024
One year (2014?) before start of season he made big call that we wouldn’t win a game all season, we went 2-0. After that not so good, but still…meher baba wrote: ↑Mon 15 Jan 2024 1:12am I’m amazed that anyone can recall any commentator’s pre-season predictions about us from past years.

Re: David King on St Kilda 2024
There is fair comment and then there is just pile on.
Courageous as DK is I don't think he will be guilty of being critical of Pies or Carlton.
Comments bagging us may have been spot on but also cheap shots stating the obvious.

Re: David King on St Kilda 2024
That's it.
Just because a person in their position (media fluffer) makes ridiculous, fluffy bubble-gum rubbish comments designed to incite some interest, doesn't mean they are not astute, balanced and even cautious in their real cognition and judgments. These guys are probably paid bonuses by SEN etc., for clicks on their stories. 100,000 views threshold, bonus $5000 bucks kinda thing.
Now some people just 'don't go there'..Kane Cornes makes a living being there, like a Witch on her broom, surfing the clouds of bilious hype he produces in his wake, and spinning back and floating on the hot air. But he is probably an astute critic in all reality, and respected by his peers for it.
Spud Frawley was a guy - despite his goon spoof silly stuff for Bounce etc., is an example of a guy who just wouldn't or maybe even couldn't go there. He kept one foot on planet earth when it came to reading the game, in-situ and as the seasons unfolded. Cornes and King no, bu they are smart buggers and I am sure they are more than capable critics. It is just that they have no shame in spouting fluff when the time suits.
Key is to look at their top 8 or ladder predictions rather than their one off 'opinion-flashes'. Get them to make choices, because one teams win is another team's loss.

Re: David King on St Kilda 2024
It's now been a few days since this article and I've not heard from Kingy. Given this departure from his normal comments, I am hoping the man is OK. Surely someone has performed a welfare check on him.Sanctorum wrote: ↑Sun 14 Jan 2024 11:05am I can't believe it, David King, who normally goes out of his way to bag St Kilda, has actually predicted on SEN that they will improve in 2024, quite extraordinary!!

Re: David King on St Kilda 2024
Always thought of Kingy as a wise, wise man.
He kept raving about how Owens looked on the track last preseason and his season lived up to that.

I often think Kingy states the bloody obvious.
"So Nd so looks fit"
"Someone looks stronger"
But I want to believe him so much. I like the make up of this team
