Re: Time trial
FB poster (grain of salt of course) reckons 9:39 for Hill, Wilson 1 second behind, Garcia / Windhager / Steele within 3-4s for the poster who likes time trial times
Apparently Heath got lapped by Cordy and Campbell which isn't great for the lad.

Re: Time trial
Extraordinary effort from Garcia considering he wasn't on the track before Christmas. Another player with genuine speed and high endurance. There's a lot to like at the moment.
Steele is another one to be happy about. This time last year he was being nursed through an ankle/archilles issue and went into the season in below par condition. He should get back to his best pretty quickly in 2024, which will be a massive bonus.

Credit Austin from FB
3KM time trial results from this morning: Hill, Wilson, Garcia, Windhager, Steele.
Poor Moose was lapped by Cordy and Campbell! Looked like he was struggling.
Hunter Clarke has put in a mountain of work and is bridging the gap with the midfield group in terms of his aerobic capacity.
Membrey looks super fit, lost a few kgs and was running like a gazelle
Phillapou looks like he’s had a decent summer in the gym with more muscle and he was a front runner today for 80% of the time trial.
Those who didn’t run: Owens, King, Howard, Marshall.

Re: Time trial
3:13 ks that’s top end running at AFL level
Hill is an aerobic freak, I can guarantee he doesn’t train as much as Wilson, Phillipou or Windhager
But he is a natural aerobic beast

Re: Time trial
I'm intrigued to see how the midfield looks this year in round 1 vs round 22.
Is there still room for all of Steele, Ross, Crouch, Jones, Byrnes, Clark?
How many midfielders do you play in the selected 22? Do you have Owens and Pou rotating forward, Clark rotating back? Others mentioned above don't appear to be able to rotate forward or back.
IMO all midfielders need a second string either forward or back.

Re: Time trial
One thing for sure is that Ross Lyon will have no qualms at the selection table and if one of the youngsters (eg Garcia/Hotton) really shine he will happily replace an out of form senior midfielder.
It looks like the youngsters we have now are very driven, more so than in recent times. What a difference compared to the past 10 years.

Re: Time trial
Its apparent that since RTB and the current Football Dept have been at the club the training standards and expectations have lifted significantly. The other thing that has helped is bringing in talented and driven kids into a program, it raises the bar for the older players as they see they can work harder. Its akin to when Hamill, Hayes, Reiwoldt, Goddard etc first came to the club they set standards for the rest of the club.
The other thing that I get the impression is the players are really enjoying their time at Moorabbin. They seem to be a well bonded group and are enjoying the work thrown at them. Now more than past eras you can notice how driven the group are and want to get the absolute best out of themselves and as a team.

Re: Time trial
Not too sure about this carry on re player attitude being different to attitudes over x number of years.
All players on AFL Lists are trying their backsides off to consolidate their status, get games and remain on the List.
Noting it is now some 4 months since we lost a game.
So everything is bright and rosy in the garden.
The real world of competition awaits.

Training reports in the pre-season haven’t been as glowing in recent years. More and more reports have surfaced of people being way off the pace and the group starting off as very sloppy.
Rumours went round maybe 2-3 years back that the young Saints had the worst attitude towards training of any club amongst many of readily utilised PTs.
I’ve certainly never read a report that suggests Clark has looked like he has an AFL body before.
Of course I don’t know… but the impression certainly is being put out there

Steven left to be picked up as depth at GeelongKilla wrote: ↑Thu 11 Jan 2024 1:30pm Not too sure about this carry on re player attitude being different to attitudes over x number of years.

Newnes left to be depth at Carlton.
Lonie to the amateurs and probably a job he can handle
Dunstan - Melbourne
Billings - Melbourne
Hickey - 4 clubs
Mc Cartin sacked and picked up by Sydney
Geary was made Captain and the directed the blame at Richo focussing on negatives.
They've been gotten rid of one by one. Things changed dramatically in 2020 and Billings, Dunstan Lonie and Geary contributed very little since.
The culture was toxic.
I think this speaks for itself in terms of being ready for the world of competition
Since 2020 it's clear standards have risen sharply.

Re: Time trial
There are players who bring energy and a relentless drive and there are those who think they're pushing themselves but in reality they are not.
It's not good enough to have just your captain leading by example (see Geary), you need players who are determined to surpass that standard and strive higher, from day one and then year after year. You also need the right coach who will accept nothing less
We have a group of youngsters who fit the bill and when you have half a dozen youngsters who are hellbent, it makes a world of difference

Steven was cooked metnally like Clarry is right now. Personal issues outside of footy.
Newnes was already depth with us
Dunstan was cooked physically and disenfranchised
Billings remains to be seen
Hickey playing the half decent mercenary ruckmans roundabout
McCartin shouldn't have played AFL again but played in a grand final team

Re: Time trial
The obvious point was the lack of leadership.
None of the blokes winning time trials could do anything but run.
