Re: Au Revoir Chris Toce
A number, well say AJ and Kennedy of Hawthorn, used militaristic over the top boys rhetoric and boarding school discipline. Both would probably have made super Warrant Officers. As BM notes they had champion players. Nevertheless the more I find out about the individuals in the 66 side the more I admire AJ's man management skills. Now, Barrassi changed the way the game was strategised, as I think Wallace, Roos and Blight did.

So Ross is a disciple of Roos and a student of man management strategies?Yorkeys wrote: ↑Wed 20 Dec 2023 3:26pm A number, well say AJ and Kennedy of Hawthorn, used militaristic over the top boys rhetoric and boarding school discipline. Roos was ok.
But I'll take Leigh Matthews any day.
One took a job with the AFL.
The other lead an AFL club to three premierships in Timbuktu.

Re: Au Revoir Chris Toce
Sustained top 4 finishes has been the measure for a while, even for the clubs that don’t win a flag. Basically being able to reach and maintain high performance over sustained periods.

Re: Au Revoir Chris Toce
But then aren’t you dependent on other teams not being very good?
If ladder position or premiership success determines greatness
It means Tony Jewell and Alan Joyce are better coaches the RL
Not sure I agree with that?

Re: Au Revoir Chris Toce
"Sustained" is the operative word.
So for example, let's say Chris Scott only has the 2011 flag to his name, he still was valued in the industry up until the 22 flag incredibly highly because he was at the helm of a team that was consistently in the top 4 and 8.
It's the definition of "relevant", the very thing we crave and desire at our club.
RL is on a knife's edge.
He still trades off the win/loss ratio from 2007 to 2013, not so much after that but (shhh)
If he fails at his second list rebuild then the history books will judge him harshly as being the coach who could only coach a team chock full of ready made GF types.

He is setting up a strategy and banking that it will pay off in four years.
He is off to a good start when you search for our best 35 players and project another 50 games into our youngest from Wilson to Clark.
By the end of this year, we will be able to target the free agents we need and take aim at a sustained era.
Lyon realises he may not be coaching, but he will have corrected the narrative.
So far, I'm impressed.

Hmmm…
Well that would end the mystery and questioning around whatever his mysterious role was.

I suspect he either picked up on, or was told, that he would not be required.Nick DalSanto Claus wrote: ↑Sat 30 Dec 2023 4:00pmNo surprises there, sR. Sacked or moved on/made redundant?

St Kilda’s recruiter Jarryd Roughead has resigned from his role, making the call before the club’s Christmas break. The four-time Hawthorn premiership star had spent four years at the Saints, with a main focus in recruiting in recent seasons
