In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: Saints snare Simon Dalrymple
As always only results at our club will determine if it was a good get or not but on reputation alone it sounds like a good get.
Time will tell though if he can perform better than Tote because he was starting to get some luck with recruiting also, these types of appointments are generally about the head coach surrounding himself with "his" people.

Looks like Bassett is determined to put the right people in the right places so there are no excuses.

Thanks for putting up the podcast…seems very level headed and knows what’s required with trading and drafting!

I wonder if Dalrymple has an existing relationship with Dave Misson

As long as he knows we don't have a NSW like Academy to draw / take advantage from. Let him work some magic.

Re: Saints snare Simon Dalrymple
Why are we getting the guy who was allegedly responsible for putting together the Bulldogs Premiership team 8 years ago.
We need the people who are responsible for Collingwood’s premiership team.
Although I’m not sure what good it would do us to get Peter Daicos and Peter Moore.

Re: Saints snare Simon Dalrymple
It looks to me it’s another “program” appointment ie whilst Toce may well have been a good talent spotter, was he able to put a talent identification program in place that did not just rely on himself ? Perhaps, or perhaps they think Dalrymple is better placed to put a program in place that is a more sustainable long term talent identification process.
Much the same way Misson is in charge of a program and Lyon is in charge of a program.

Re: Saints snare Simon Dalrymple
I wonder who Dalrymple will bring in to replace Roughead? Hopefully he has someone in mind...
Just listened to the Podcast, you wouldn't say he was a great media performer. Very dour monotone style, doesn't sound like the sharpest tool in the shed, so hopefully he is a better recruiter than radio performer.

SOS also doesn’t come accross that well either but is very shrewd…Dalrymple is highly regarded and respected, we’re in good hands!Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Sat 30 Dec 2023 11:12pm I wonder who Dalrymple will bring in to replace Roughead? Hopefully he has someone in mind...

Re: Saints snare Simon Dalrymple
Has runs on board at 2 clubs
Academy assists at Swans
His role is bigger than Toce’s - he’s involved in talent Id AND player movement (eg existing player moves)
Time will tell but the clubs trying which is great to see
Not many left from Richo/Ratten days….Lyon knows what he wants

Re: Saints snare Simon Dalrymple
So Lyon is hiring and firing?
Interesting
Not normally the role of the senior coach

Re: Saints snare Simon Dalrymple
Lyon would not be hiring and firing, that is not the role of the SC, but he would have significant input on who he wants or the type of person he wants.

Contracts come up for renewal.
The smart blokes who don't want a pay cut and have clauses like Billings, just bail out or hand in early resignation and usually are working somewhere else within a week or two.
Its not a volunteer committee at a local club.

Re: Saints snare Simon Dalrymple
There's absolutely nothing wrong with a senior coach building a support network around him to achieve the ultimate objective of a premiership.
Ross Lyon circa 2023/26 is a far more nature and experienced coach than he was 2007/11 and of all the new appointments to football operations I think David Misson and SOS are the only key figures that have worked with Lyon previously.
From what I've read Misson is very much his own man, in the mould of Geoff Walsh.
"Any candidate for political office, once chosen for leadership, must have the will to take the wheel of a very powerful car, tasked from time to time to make a fast journey down a narrow, precipitous mountain road – and be highly skilled at driving. Otherwise, he is disqualified from the company of competent leaders."

It would be safe to think that Harvey Hayes Goddard and Dal Santo, all coaches, got a strong grounding in leadership, as players.Sanctorum wrote: ↑Tue 02 Jan 2024 11:48amThere's absolutely nothing wrong with a senior coach building a support network around him to achieve the ultimate objective of a premiership.

Ross to Freo
Riewoldt turned the lights off.
Harvey to Collingwood
Hayes to GWS
Joey mattch analysis and media
Dal Santo the same initially, now coaching.
The Dwarf was the bad guy.
Richo transitioned away from Lyon's influence.
Ratten steadied the ship.
Ross is back at the helm.

Reiwoldt turned what lights off?
2016 was one of his best seasons and had a very good final season in 2017
He definitely wanted to go on! And perhaps should’ve

Re: Saints snare Simon Dalrymple
He thought he was leading a rebuild. He is the one we should have let go earlier. We should have kept Goddard and Dal and given Harvey a crack.
All hindsight.
Riewoldt was running the show after Ross left until Richo retired him by making Geary caretaker Captain, hoping a hero would emerge.
After Riewoldt retired, all we we could do was change the coach.
Geary challenged Richos attitude and vision and Ratten came along and pulled the rug.

You’re joking yeah?
Probably the most professional player I have ever seen
Captain
Will be a Hall of Fame legend
And we should have got rid of him - are you taking the piss?!
You are right on one count
Should never have got rid of two other champions of the club
