I'd rather be called the Bont rather than the Pou

There's every chance he'll improve but let's hope sober heads are in charge.
Exaxrly, the opportunity to play every game came from our injury crisis and there being literally no players left to select who were AFL standard so it made good sense to gift him games to accelerate his development.

Outside of that fact he was fairly ordinary in most of the games he played so yes, let's hope we are finally learning how to run a footy club and sober heads do prevail by not offering him a godfather contract before he's earnt it on performance and not potential.

So you’re saying you wouldn’t want to re-sign him?

Probably best to wait, so other teams can have a look at him?!

I wouldn't mind that. If he did decide to leave then we would demand one pick in the top 5 and a another pick in the top 10. No player is bigger than the club!

I'm saying no need to rush into a contract that is not based on proven performance. And no need to rush into any type of contract that is based on fear of losing a player who hasn't delivered anything yet.

Offer a contract at 400k for 3 years and tell him his next contract will be his pay day if he turns into an elite talent. Long way to go before we know how if he's and elite franchise type.

We gave Billings a contract he didn't earn and it hurt the club.

Last time we waited on an important contract- it was Ross Lyon.

That worked out well - off to Freo he went - out of finals for a decade for us!

Truth be told we were drinking the kool aide of a snake oil salesman (as were half the imbeciles on here!) who Ross hated and he wanted out!

It was either Lyon or Pelchen

We chose wisely

I would sign up Phillipou tomorrow - imo right now he’s our most important signature- with King and Marshall locked away.

He’s a second year player who’s just turned 19

What does he have to prove exactly

That he has talent and potential? I think he’s ticked both those boxes

He is the guy we are talking about.

He has said he won't be happy till he raises our second cup.

Then, at that point, Ross signed hin for any contract him and his 34 best mates can put together to be cemented in the top 2 within 3 years come finals time.

Within 3 years we will be in a 5-6 year window, if probability has a say.

But the only question will about effort.

Potential and probability won't come into it once that salary cap is settled.

His is the last signature we need. He looks to be committed.

Windhager, Owens, Phillipou, Byrnes, Caminiti Wanganeen-Milera, Collard, Garcia, Sharman Keeler, Heath, Hotton, Shoey, Wilson will have 40 - 90 games and will be all St.kilda born and bred and finals hardened. Clark, Butler Henry and Dow will be experienced and hardened.
Steele Wilkie Marshall Sinclair Higgins and Crouch will be veterans playing cameos from set roles.
King will be in his peak prime and will be the cream of the crop.
We will have one or 2 new big fish and 3 top 23 recruits at least.

I'm expecting nothing less

You’re expecting a premiership

So are 18 other clubs

Some with already great list, like Collingwood, Brisbane Carlton Port, Melbourne
Some with great developing lists North, GCS, Hawthorn

Premiership is no guarantee- anywhere- we should know that better than anyone

Then there’s Tas

They walk in, with a bevy of concessions and already a parochial fan base and a huge home ground advantage

St Kilda need a core group of ruthlessly ambitious emerging leaders to take us to the next premiership.

Love what I'm hearing from the Pou

Hopefully the club hierarchy stick fat to the strategy of focusing on the long term and the focus (or more correctly I should say the priority) remains the development of young players.

Let's hope Lyon and SOS and Gubby, along with Lethlean's approval, don't trade away our 1st and 2nd round draft picks next year, unless we pick up an A grade gun under the age of 25.

It will imply that the club doesn't want to wait until Mattaes has played 80-100 games ...or until Darcy Wilson plays over 60 games.

Guys like Pou, Owens, Windy, NWM, and several others including our senior leaders and our captain Jack Steele all understand they'll be looked after financially...but is it only money that motivates these elite sportsmen?

What a great opportunity for these young men! They're going to be remembered and celebrated for the rest of their lives.

Mattaes isn’t going anywhere…signing end of next season, which is smart, Nas similar & dare say got a nice juicy contract after his fine body of work this season.

Guarantee of premierships are in the minds of football greats.

What would you and I know.

I reckon with King at one end and Wilson at the the other, our recruiting improved a hell of a lot.

Robert Harvey

Played 21 years with sime of the greatest modern day players in the AFL

He did everything humanly possible to win a premiership, no man worked harder or was more deserving.

Ditto Nick Reiwoldt and Lenny Hayes

Alas, it never happened. As I said, many players go through their careers without winning one and there is ZERO guarantee you will!

Yeah. You can say that here but I'm sure some people here achieved their life goal too and others worried about the contracts.

Honestly

Does your wage matter?

Because I can tell you, I do not work for free or some award - I work to get paid

Work to live not live to work imo

AFL footy is not a hobby for players, it’s a career.
