Dan Butler Ankle Setback
Just saw on the channel 7 news that Dan Butler is going in for another round of ankle surgery and will be setback in his prep for pre season. Haven’t seen it reported anywhere else. I broke my ankle and needed surgery and it takes a long time (3-6 months) to get it back to proper form and I was very serious with my physio for work. Does this mean Butler misses early rounds and gives Lance Collard an early debut?

What have you seen of Lance thus far in his pre season that makes you think he's capable of earning an early debut?TheGreatZacsby wrote: ↑Thu 21 Dec 2023 6:50pm Just saw on the channel 7 news that Dan Butler is going in for another round of ankle surgery and will be setback in his prep for pre season. He’s so tiny and slight at present but, he can already stick a tackle. His speed is unquestionable but, not much point if he can’t get it or dispossess someone else.Vortex wrote: ↑Thu 21 Dec 2023 8:50pmWhat have you seen of Lance thus far in his pre season that makes you think he's capable of earning an early debut?TheGreatZacsby wrote: ↑Thu 21 Dec 2023 6:50pm Just saw on the channel 7 news that Dan Butler is going in for another round of ankle surgery and will be setback in his prep for pre season. Alternatively you play Henry in Butler’s role (instead of on a wing) and then Wood and Hill play the wings

I was only suggesting Collard re likeness regarding position and Ross stating in his presser that he will get games this year.
But to answer your question no I haven’t seen Collard smash the door down to be selected. He shows flashes of X-Factor but not enough to warrant selection IMHO.
I agree with SaintMatt that Liam Henry might take up the slot created by Butlers absence and then Wilson takes Henry’s spot.

Season is 13 weeks away. Depending on the type of surgery he’s having hopefully enough time to be fit for round 1 or after first few rounds at worst.

Re: Dan Butler Ankle Setback
Hopefully Dan wont miss too much footy? Henry is probably the obvious choice to replace him, but from training reports is seems RTB wants to use Henry's run and speed in an around the ball. I wonder if Byrnes would be a consideration he seems to get to the right spots when drifting into the F50. Plus from what has been reported he came back to preseason training looking super fit.

Who's Billings?
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

I don’t think Dan had a great year last year. This is an enormous opportunity, early in the season, to try somebody different in the role whilst Dan is recovering

Re: Dan Butler Ankle Setback
I thought he had a sold year
Did he kick 30 goals?
He’s our only true crumbing forward - without Gresham
So is very important

Re: Dan Butler Ankle Setback
I thought Butts had an excellent year to be honest. He had the most pressure acts by a mile and kicked 30 goals for the season. Did anyone else in the league do that? Not many if any.

Re: Dan Butler Ankle Setback
I thought he was pretty good too.
What I liked about him this year is that in addition to being a effective small forward… he kind of found his role a bit better in pushing up the ground and being one of those that was trusted to use his disposal and decision making to deliver the ball into F50 too.
In addition to kicking goals, my feeling is he contributed to a lot more being kicked.
Yeah he had some lean patches with goal and finished the year with a disappointing performance…
But ppl need to remember that he plays the toughest position on the ground.

Re: Dan Butler Ankle Setback
Agree his year was very solid. Kicked 33 , understands and implements the game plan and his role in it. In our best 23.
Having said that, there are 15 or 16 others whose absence would be more keenly felt. Anyway, glad he will likely be back in January.

I reckon his absence is tough to cover
We have little depth as crumbing forwards

Re: Dan Butler Ankle Setback
It's worrying that he's having a second lot of surgery on the same injury. He's vital to us, irreplaceable. If he's back in training in Jan then just have to cross fingers that the recovery goes more smoothly this time.

Re: Dan Butler Ankle Setback
It may speed up Collard's debut and inclusion into the senior side. If so, there is a silver lining to that cloud, for mine.

Re: Dan Butler Ankle Setback
Collard is 65kg and played in the WAFL colts last season
He’s gotta take a massive step just to play VFL
From what I’ve seen at training he is a long term prospect
