Training - Friday December 15th
New players:
*Darcy Wilson is such a smooth mover, reminds me of a right footed Nicky Dal...has a lovely turn of speed & a nice side step
*Liam Henry continues to impress with his flare & speed out of congestion - kicked a lovely snap from the boundary during match sim
*Paddy Dow is going about his business unobtrusively, he has a nice burst of pace in the first 5-10 metres that will be an asset - like Liam Henry, he has settled in nicely at his new club
*Riley Bonner is really working hard to gain respect from his new teammates, his dash and precise, penetrating kicking are his main attributes that will get him senior opportunities.
Didn't see a lot of Arie Shoenmaker or young Hastie...Lance Collard very small but will excite supporters at Sandy and the senior side when given an opportunity, with his amazing agility and speed!
Players to step up:
*Windhager is not only in amazing physical condition but he's covering the ground better, seems to have picked up a bit more pace and power
*Phillipou was superb today, his running, marking at the highest point and penetrating kicking a feature - will be an absolute gun
Although they are only running laps at present, both Owens and Caminiti look in great shape, with both looking bigger in the upper body
*Ollie Hotton is moving well and told us he's over his back issue that hampered him earlier this year
*Angus McClennan has changed his body shape noticeably & could be a surprise packet as a medium defensive option
We had a bit of a chat with Jake Batchelor, who is looking forward to having a bit more quality to work with at Sandy.
There are 10-11 Sandy players that will train with the senior side, giving them great synergy and experience.
They have signed numerous players, most of which are former Sandy Dragons players...not a coincidence, as the club is targeting local south east players.
Great to see spider Everett, Nicky Winmar and Nick Reiwoldt there today, a very successful open training day...well done to the club.

Re: Training - Friday December 15th
Thanks for a great report once again SM65. Are you able to get a gauge on how Membrey and Ross are tracking? Both professional, senior players who must be loving the quality of youth at the club but also know that youth are coming for their spots.Saintmike65 wrote: ↑Fri 15 Dec 2023 4:15pm New players:

Re: Training - Friday December 15th
Thanks for the review Saintmike. It’s very much appreciated. Do you know if they are training Monday? If so would it be worth going to watch or are they pretty much done for the year?

Gus showed some of his talent in the VFL late last year, if he's gone to a new level then he'll be pushing for selection.

Re: Training - Friday December 15th
I went down today! Great atmosphere.
Phillipou did some amazing things. He was thrown in the guts and at stoppages and was either setting up goal assists, first clearing player or kicking the goal. He’s going to blow up.
Henry and Dow are just with the team. Henry missed a couple of kicks under pressure but when he’s got time and space he can kick it beautifully.
Wilson, Windhager and Phillipou always at the front of running drills. Hunter Clark always lumbering at the back - not good.
Dougal was very good today. Had the green cap on.
Steele came in and out of drills and so did Garcia. He’s got quick hands.
Max Heath had a terrible session. Just looked lost wouldn’t go up for a contest because he thought a smaller player would and just not filling holes. Allison couldn’t do basic drills and actually made the boys do push-ups. He should be cut at years end IMO.
Zak Jones was really good today. He did some extra stuff at the end. Membrey was a presence and back to his good form. Stocker did some nice kicks and Windhager was very zippy and did some crafty stuff at stoppage.
Can confirm that Keeler is the with backline group. He was actually pretty good for the most part.
Caminiti, King, Mitch Owens the notable ones in the rehab group doing runs, light ball work drills.
Marshall signed my poster and was an absolute jet. Such a nice guy and an amazing human. Blessed he’s at our club.
Good to see Roey down there with his boys on the field. Not a good look that they weren’t kicking the Sherrin but instead throwing an American football around. I want decent father sons for once. Please let them play AFL.
That’s all from my end! An amazing day!

Membrey looks very fit, moving well and engaged with his teammates…Seb Ross will be in the mix but perhaps no walk up start any more!Ghost Like wrote: ↑Fri 15 Dec 2023 4:28pmThanks for a great report once again SM65. Great work you mob - those posts (plus the signing) made my day ... and inspiring.
It looks like a lively place at the club training these days.
