Re: Darcy Wilson
Just watched several min of you tube on Wilson his resemblance to the great Robert Flower is uncanny…
The way he runs, his balance, his composure, skill and even the way he evades reminds me so much of the late Flower.
Hope he is half as good.

Re: Darcy Wilson
He did look like he had other expectations.
Might have fancied himself a few picks earlier.
Doesnt look the type to waste the 2 years he has though.

Re: Darcy Wilson
A running machine. Having someone with elite endurance (without being slow!) is a real bonus. The ability to get from contest to contest, and the ability to keep running hard late in games like Walsh does at Carlton. His selection is a nice balance with Windhager and Owens. Wilson is not big bodied, but he's not a scrawny kid, either. He will be able to physically withstand AFL level pressure early on playing an outside role.

Re: Darcy Wilson
Robbie Flower was my favourite non Saints player when I was a kid. If he’s anywhere near as good we’ll have done very well.

Re: Darcy Wilson
That occurrred to me as well Vaz, but the following quote by a team mate on the FoxFooty link dispels that:
"Bushrangers’ teammate Connor O’Sullivan was full of praise for Wilson’s dedication and work rate.
“Darce, if you know him, he’s a pretty quiet character,” he told foxfooty.com.au
“He sort of goes about things in silence – and I suppose that’s the beauty of his footy."
On that same link Wilson goes on to say that he has strong ambitions to play in Round 1 next year, which is reminsicent of Mattaeus Phillipou's intentions when he was drafted last year.
A bit of arrogance, their infinite belief in their abilities, is not a bad thing in a budding professional sportsman and Phillipou certainly 'walked the talk' in his first season, playing every game.
Wilson's intense focus on improving his skills, his ability to kick both sides of the body, his pace and goal sense could add some genuine oomph to St Kilda's midfield next year if he does in fact achieve his ambition!!
"Any candidate for political office, once chosen for leadership, must have the will to take the wheel of a very powerful car, tasked from time to time to make a fast journey down a narrow, precipitous mountain road – and be highly skilled at driving. Otherwise, he is disqualified from the company of competent leaders."

Re: Darcy Wilson
Is that why no pics of Ross hugging him like Matteus last year. Or is the exploration year honeymoon over. No more hugs before a finals win.

Re: Darcy Wilson
I initially thought the same but Wilson and his family and friends looked ecstatic when his selection was announced.
The expression on his face in the photo of his NAB draft profile is identical to the expression captured in the photo taken with Harves as a Saint.

Re: Darcy Wilson
Can we just celebrate one of the greatest saintsational posts of all time?! I couldn’t be more impressed / excited about this lad. All the talk of the generational players…we got a sleeper here guys! Banger mk2!!murray 66 wrote: ↑Mon 23 Oct 2023 10:18pm Alway destined to play Afl , very dedicated kid that has excelled in any sport he chooses. Darcy lives down the road from me in the same street and hung around my young bloke playing cricket , footy and B Ball. Was up until last year in the Vic U/18's cricket program selected as a promising fast bowler, but had to make a choice. His Dad Mick currently works with the Murray Bushrangers as a talent scout and is considered a Wangaratta Rovers legend in the Ovens & Murray Football league. Mick represented Vic Country numerous times through out his footy career, and his uncle is Mick Nolan ( Galloping Gasometre) who played with North. I have so many sporting stories about Darcy I could say, but my post would go on forever......Quite simply one of those generational kids that everybody has gone to school with that dominates every& any sport they participate in. Unbelievable athlete aswell, has participated and ran at Vic Schoolboy national champs in athletics and holds just about every athletics record at his old school (Galen College)... Praying the Saints get access to him for selfish reasons, whole family are North supporters!

Was terrific in the second half. Not far off a rising star nomination… if not today

Re: Darcy Wilson
If Reid gets the rising star nom this week over Wilson i'll spew. There's possibly some other more worthy candidates but he was a key part of our win.

Re: Darcy Wilson
Reid had the most effective fends off in one quarter than the highest rated player (Petracca so far in a year). Reid got the WCE going so he should win the nom this week. Darcy is building. He will have a break out game and earn his nom.

Re: Darcy Wilson
2 Tigers were about to pounce on a ground ball in our D50. Darcy had fallen over in the contest- but refused to give up, punched the ball outta their reach and straight to a Sainter in the clear. That was INCREDIBLE as the 2 Tiges were caught flat-footed.
And the run-down tackle that was performed correctly from the side with zero chance of 'in the back'.
He's Webster without the facial hair or the anger issues
