Re: INs & OUTs 20% Turnover
Too early to try and pick the up to 9 outs there will be at the end of the 2024 season.
One things for sure, there is ALWAYS list churn, annually.
Hope this particular list enjoys their year together before it changes again.

I’m guessing 4 out of those players will get a senior game in 2024.

I think we will pick one draftee (probably Wilson) to develop in the seniors like Philippou did. The rest will have to make their way at Sandy pending injuries.

Re: INs & OUTs 20% Turnover
There was always going to be a few players who felt on the outer with Ross so really unsurprising that Coff and Billings decided to leave. Gresh following the money - fair enough. None of the rest were going to help get us deeper into the finals.
I would expect a few more looking to leave end of next year , possibly some forced out to due to age, and another suite of players not up to scratch delisted. Another 9 out next year won’t be surprising.

Billings was left out to dry and had no choice. His chances of playing for Ross Lyon were slim, if he can't run a pre-season, which he hasn't done for 4 years.Zed wrote: ↑Wed 22 Nov 2023 9:33pm There was always going to be a few players who felt on the outer with Ross so really unsurprising that Coff and Billings decided to leave. Gresham and Coffield took pay cuts at their new digs. Henry and Dow got pay rises and I like the kid from the Geelong football factory better than Coffield already.

Re: INs & OUTs 20% Turnover
One of the things that’s looking to shift… and about time IMO, is endlessly holding on to players that for one reason or another, don’t ever really play.
Impressions of Billings were mixed on this forum
Likewise Bytel
Coffield and Dmac were always injured
The rest nowhere near it.
Hopefully no more lengthy apprenticeships
Lot of pressure on Jones, Byrnes, Stocker, Paton, Clark and Hayes to go up a level now

Re: INs & OUTs 20% Turnover
In "The rest" I feel Leo Connolly was stiff. Kid could kick, had pace, had aggression. I know he worked very closely with Goddard this year in the hope of turning him into a midfielder. Clearly, the club has more intel than me, but from the outside he'd have been one I'd have kept persisting with.skeptic wrote: ↑Wed 22 Nov 2023 9:45pm One of the things that’s looking to shift… and about time IMO, is endlessly holding on to players that for one reason or another, don’t ever really play.

Re: INs & OUTs 20% Turnover
I liked him too. Thought he was decent in the few opportunities he got. Fact that he didn’t get a look in at all suggests that he was either extremely far off the pace, wasn’t doing the work or simply didn’t buy into the plan which is a big RTB no no.groupie1 wrote: ↑Wed 22 Nov 2023 11:15pmIn "The rest" I feel Leo Connolly was stiff. Re: INs & OUTs 20% Turnover
Did not lose much.
Only one was best 22 (Gresham) and he was in bottom 5.
Dow and Henry should come straight in and hopefully a couple of the draftees push for a spot.

Re: INs & OUTs 20% Turnover
I agree, Saynta. We're younger and quicker. The senior players who actually played last year (Gresham and Billings) have been moved on have been covered by Dow, Henry, and Bonner. Meanwhile, the likes of Bytel, Adams, Connolly, and Peris have been replaced with better credentialed kids.

Battle asked for a 2 year deal he was offered a 3 year so he would be able to test the waters of free agency in 2024
Dougal is also out of contract if we loose both we a light on for KDP just cordy so we better get some players in quickly as we don't know if Van es will be ok or ARIE shoemaker is any good.

Re: INs & OUTs 20% Turnover
3 of those retirees were re-contracted previously and produced very little. Geary was stiff with some serious accidents, Kent and Hanners should have been exited earlier.

Re: INs & OUTs 20% Turnover
As most of the players traded out have had significant trials and tribulations with long term injuries or have constantly shown themselves to be unable to play games out due to getting injured during matches, I cannot see a downside to this turnover at all.

Re: INs & OUTs 20% Turnover
Yep, agreed. Apart from Bytel, who was unlucky with injuries, the others were all given opportunities and given that they have been given lifelines at new clubs, these changes are win/win. No downside to these changes at all IMO.

Re: INs & OUTs 20% Turnover
I don’t think the team is any better… maybe if Max and Tim can play more. I do however think the list has improved going forward.
Don’t think Dow, Henry and Bonner would be much better than Billings, Gresham and Coffield next season
But just because we’ve got the kids in through the door, doesn’t make them guns yet
We were c**k a hoop when we got Bytel in the third round. We were Bertie big bollocks when we got Hugh Goddard with pick 21
The journey only starts now for the draftees. Their junior careers count for Jack!!!

Re: INs & OUTs 20% Turnover
It’s interesting isn’t it…
This is what we’ve lost in 2 years…
Jack Billings
Nick Coffield
Jade Gresham
Daniel McKenzie
Tom Highmore
Jack Bytel
Leo Connolly
Oscar Adams
Jack Peris
Paddy Ryder
Dan Hannebery
Jarryn Geary
Dean Kent
Darragh Joyce
Ben Long
Jarrod Lienert
Josiah Kyle
Paddy retired, he was a good player
Geary was a solid citizen but it was time
Dmac, Bytel, Billings and Coffield all had fans but we’re never consistently on the park and more so… not at the right times
As pointed out… Gresh the only clear 22 and let’s face it, he had a lot of critics on this site
This feels to me like a spectacular clear out over 2 years. The theme here is poor skills and I’m hoping that the players coming in all have fantastic attitudes or at least in that they want to do the work.
