Bonner is talented but lacks the physical grunt. Not one to throw himself into contests. He's an elite kick, though

Bonner has need played at half back for most of his career. Perhaps wing would more suit his 'outside' style

Does this spell the end of DMac? Any more list spots available?

Re: Riley Bonner picked up by Saints in pre-season draft
Bonner can run and can kick, there is beyond a doubt an undeniable pattern forming.
I’m guessing RTB wants either NWM up on a wing or Sinclair more on ball, therefore looking at some options for run and delivery out of the back half.
Time to get super fit Hunter Clark!

I think could only be a preseason supplemental pick now? Seems like he might be gone.aussie sainter wrote: ↑Wed 22 Nov 2023 3:23pm Does this spell the end of DMac? Any more list spots available?

He could be handy playing on the nippy small forwards

No doubt they want more midfield time for Sinclair!D.B.Cooper wrote: ↑Wed 22 Nov 2023 3:51pm Bonner can run and can kick, there is beyond a doubt an undeniable pattern forming.

Seems the boss has learned some valuable lessons from our loss in the first final..more pace and spread needed.D.B.Cooper wrote: ↑Wed 22 Nov 2023 3:51pm Bonner can run and can kick, there is beyond a doubt an undeniable pattern forming.

Let’s hope we get a similar outcome this year to the one learned from our 2008 preliminary final loss to Hawthorn.

Why was he delisted from Port?
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: Riley Bonner picked up by Saints in pre-season draft
I worked out that with including Mc Kenzie and Bonner we will have filled 44 list spots.aussie sainter wrote: ↑Wed 22 Nov 2023 3:23pm Does this spell the end of DMac? Any more list spots available?
No room for any other SSP selections unless we get an injury during pre-season training.

Jarrod Lienert Mk II?
Depth player.
Very interesting to check out the Port fans’ reactions to Bonner’s delisting in Sep.

Been on their list 8 years.
Slipped down the list of preferred defenders.
But some fans of their’s evidently think it was a mistake to delist.

Re: Riley Bonner picked up by Saints in pre-season draft
Who would you rather running the ball at HB
A 2 x All Australian
Or a fringe player from Port
First wrong move from the club - he is not much chop - that much is known.
Very outside and no defensive capacity

He is free so why not have a pop if the club sees something they like? Adds a mature body and perhaps some IP from Port we can use and we didn’t sell the farm to get him.

Tom Highmore gone
I thought they might relist him, but evidently not
This guy showed a bit and was great in their horrid prelim loss in 2021 apparently
Slipped down their ladder since

St Kilda have confirmed there won't be a list spot available for recently delisted wingman Dan McKenzie next year.
The Saints had planned to have McKenzie train with the club over the pre-season and trail as a potential Supplemental Selection Period acquisition following an injury-ravaged 2023 campaign.
The club made the decision to delist McKenzie earlier this month with a potential lifeline in mind for the 27-year-old, however St Kilda's recent draft moves have left the club without an opening for him.
The Saints drafted Darcy Wilson, Lance Collard, Angus Hastie, Hugo Garcia and Arie Schoenmaker at the National Draft before signing former Port Adelaide defender Riley Bonner through the Pre-Season Draft on Wednesday.
The "unanticipated" draft haul has forced the Saints to bid farewell to McKenzie.
With our list now complete following the unanticipated availability of talent across the draft period, Dan McKenzie's time at the club has come to a close," a club post read.
"Dan is a much-loved figure who put everything into his time at the Saints. We wish him all the best."

Re: Riley Bonner picked up by Saints in pre-season draft
No more places
If Dan McKenzie wants to play anymore AFL football he needs to find another club and train there in the hope of being picked up.
Anyone hoping to gain a supplemental selection place by training at St Kilda needs to immediately rethink and find somewhere else to train.
St Kilda can't take them no matter how good they appear.
