Well
He was a rookie
Want to be Cyril Rioli or Toby Greene for me to take a small forward as a first rounder

Any chance we use some of our future 3rds to get up the order this year?

Re: Who do we want in the ND
Most have us getting Tholstrup with our first pick - I’m not sold on him
It’s like our picks are both just a couple too low
Would loved to have got the speed/endurance combo of Wilson and Demattia

Re: Who do we want in the ND
I spoke to a recruiter at a lunch today, he likened Demattia to Aiden Bonar and said he is an early physical developer who he didn’t think would go on to be a high end player.
Can’t comment as I’ve never seen the kid play, but my nephew who plays Premier cricket says he’s an absolute gun cricketer.
The recruiter also tipped us to take Charlie Edwards with our first selection.

Re: Who do we want in the ND
Who's the genius that thought it was relevant whether a draftee barracks for St Kilda or not?
The theory goes that there is family support and their hearts are already in the right place and somehow that loyalty for the club will motivate them...or some sort BS like that!!
We hopefully don't try and outsmart ourselves with stupid theories like that again...AND thank fk we didn't give up our first round pick. Last time we did that (in 2019) we gave away the opportunity to recruit Tom Green who went at pick 10 to GWS...plus we gave away Blake Acres as steak knives
Not unhappy with what Brad Hill has provided and will continue to provide but we know the modern game demands you have at least a couple of elite mids if you want to be a contender.
I think our brains trust in the footy department were swayed by the fact that Max King was a Saints supporter... weren't they?
Same with when we looked to recruit Jack Higgins.
Again...not totally unhappy with King ang Higgins but...imagine how different we'd look with Acres and T Green?

I was saying more that barracking for the saints limits the go home factor for Tholstrup and Hardeman being WA players.
I do agree with you that should be drafting for best available talent despite which team they support and never our first round pick

Re: Who do we want in the ND
Luke Parker was possibly the most dominant junior to ever come out of the MPFL, and definitely Langy.
To compare DeMattia with Luke Parker is laughable and blatantly ridiculous.
I hope we get him and if he is half as good as Parker I'd be stoked, reality is his junior career is not in the same stratosphere as Parker.

Re: Who do we want in the ND
I understand the point you are trying to make, but Tom Green was an academy player for GWS. He was never not going to GWS, with or without keeping that pick. So don’t lose sleep over what might have been with Tom Green in RW&B.
It would have been more likely we would have chosen Caleb Serong.
In theory a top 10 pick like that should be a Tom Green. It could also be a Dylan Stevens who went pick 5 that same draft, and this year was traded to North for peanuts because he is not reaching the heights he was supposed to. Nothing is ever guaranteed.

From the age.co.au
St Kilda would likely grab one of Wilson or Tholstrup if they slid this far. Harry DeMattia, Edwards – managed by Saints list boss Stephen Silvagni’s son Tom – and defenders Arie Schoenmaker and Hardeman could also be in the mix"

Overview of ND for current competition
https://www.afl.com.au/news/1062048/nat ... ks-no1/amp
It is jas-dropping stuff when you see it in plain sight
Look at Geelong!
Look at Gold Coast.
I think it reinforces the attractiveness of the notion that big clubs can to try to use Gold Coast and GWS as incubators. These clubs then can lure the best of them.

Re: Who do we want in the ND
It been fairly clear that Brisbane's triple at the beginning of the century dismissed any assumption we'd have a national competition because the good people of Queensland want to watch it.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Sat 18 Nov 2023 3:41pm Overview of ND for current competition

Re: Who do we want in the ND
Uh???
Penny didn’t drop for me here..
Care to explain?
So Brisbane won three flags
And the AFL realized something?
Like QLD fans do or don’t care?

Re: Who do we want in the ND
The have now realised Queensland's dont care about AFL. bur the Victorians and those from other states, moving here in a continually growing trend do and the developing talent pool has roots in real AFL territory.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Sat 18 Nov 2023 5:37pmUh???

Re: Who do we want in the ND
Well in this case that would be a no, as it was between King and Rozze. And Rozee also grew up as a St Kilda Supporter.
"Rozee, also a Saints fan who was comfortable with heading to Victoria, went the next pick to Port (who would likely have taken King if he was available). He has been a sensation, finishing second in last year's NAB AFL Rising Star, leading Port's goalkicking in his debut season, and looking a long-term star of the competition."
According to the talk at the time Toce favoured Rozee, and Lethlean Max, and Lethlean won out.

Re: Who do we want in the ND
Interesting talk in Cal Twomey’s phantom draft about a potential trade to move up the order:
St Kilda
Picks: 13, 21, 40, 77, 82, 86 (likely to use four or five selections)
It will be a wait and see who gets through to St Kilda's third pick after their two early selections but they have been looking to move up the board and are expected to trade a future third-round pick for Melbourne's pick 42. They will then likely turn that pick, plus 40, into Gold Coast's pick 27, handing the Saints three top-30 selections.

Re: Who do we want in the ND
That was a very good interview.
I’m guessing SOS gave us a list of those players he doesn’t think will be available or he is not interested in as much as some others.
The club must think Heath is going ok if they are not looking at a development ruck just yet, or maybe he’s foxing.
