Re: Dan McKenzie
Wasn't DMac studying a science degree in order to become a physio?
Maybe, he is going to Germany to set-up a business/relationship with Dr.Heinz Magic Hands?
Would be a smart move.

No, what you have stated is not correct. He may still get a contract for 2024, he just will not get a he will not receive a senior playing contract for 2024
If his body goes ok he may still earn a rookie contract for 2024 via the Supplemental Selection Program (SSP).

I wrote Oct 10.
It is interesting to wonder. Trying to imagine/intuit how it works.
A guy with a chronic calf issue
Gold Coast call
Decison made to go to Germany
St Kilda release that he may be de-listed and potentially re-listed
Delisted
I learn that he was a science major, with maths teacher parents and that he wants/wanted to be a physio
he knows more than any of us (I suspect) about physio and his own chronic condition
He will be 27 in May

Re: Dan McKenzie
He has been playing full time football for 10 years, averaged 7 games a year, he is getting paid equal or more than most physio's would, and he isn't one yet? But, he is willing to be put down rather than retire? Sounds like he has hope?shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Sat 11 Nov 2023 12:19pmI wrote Oct 10.

I reckon it's a case of Saints or retire!

Re: Dan McKenzie
Doesn't the club have a duty of care to do its best to ensure he gets the best treatment and rehab, given the injury happened while at St Kilda?
Still waiting for closure ... if you get my drift.

Re: Dan McKenzie
Good question!!!
Do teams take out their own insurance plan to cover injuries to all players?
Do they negotiate different packages for individual players based on risk?
It suggests to me, that by de-listing Mr McKenzie, the Saints are ‘off the hook’ for his medical bill .
I mean, imagine meeting Dan Hannebury’s manager as an insurance agent!!
So player contracts stipulate insurance?
Does the AFL help small clubs pay insurance bills?
In EPL, I believe that players are insured by FIFA so that clubs that have players injured whilst on international duties get compensated.

He wants to play with his mates at St Kilda, he doesn't want to go elsewhere.
1 He is delisted making him a delisted free agent but his place will be left open for him.
2 He does not nominate for the pre season, main and rookie drafts because as a free agent he can go anywhere without being drafted.
3 He will do a modified pre-season with St Kilda.
4 If he can prove his fitness St Kilda will take him on as a pre season supplemental selection,.
5 if he can't satisfy St Kilda then maybe some other club will take a risk on him, but unlikely.
But expect that if he is fit he will stay a St Kilda player, the club wants him fit and playing.
Here's hoping he makes it.

So it seems his calf is still broken with no likelihood of coming good. Very sad, he was a real talent. Maybe a side trip to Lourdes might have helped.

Re: Dan McKenzie
You know this? A report? what is your intel if you don't mind me asking?
For as honest as Dan can be, if I were his manager I would be doing an 'injury combover' for his 2024 resume. Get him on a list and let the club (and insurance?) take care of the problems. I still get my cut, if you know what O am saying here.

Re: Dan McKenzie
Very sad about this. Recently had a break out year and was one of our best, then got the dreaded dead calf .
Disappointing. A heart and soul player who gave everything. Football is bloody cruel sometimes

Re: Dan McKenzie
Yeah I have a bit more sympathy for Dmac than others.
He always seemed to do the work but could never quite get a decent run at it.
I wonder if he is more a lesson in the need to hold back a key times rather than always push yourself.
I wish him well

Re: Dan McKenzie
I wonder if he will play football and some level next season. Is his body up to it? If he does play and gets a good run at it, would be worth keeping an eye on him.
His last run of games for us in 2022 was outstanding.

Re: Dan McKenzie
How come he didn't ask those teams to help his rehab? Anyway he will clock up huge frequent flyer points, add them to the German trip and Hawaii here I come.
Seriously,
Terrible what happened, Dan looked a real talent when his calves worked.

Re: Dan McKenzie
I didn’t..
I didn’t know Jack about St Kilda when I came on this board ..
I heard about this guy McKenzie and confused him with Hunter Clark.
I lumped him in with Eli Templeton ..but don’t know jack about him either..
Then he got another contract at the very time my eyes were starting to open (or so I thought- and let’s face it, what else have you got but your own gut feeling)
And it looked like a case of another BS contract from St Kilda - the welfare side.
I was kind of disgusted that he got a contract, cos he looked second rate. It made me an accept that Jack Billings getting his huge contract (the earlier one) and Hannebury getting the key to the city on crutches was jus par for the course. It helped me on my way to a nihilistic account of St Kilda’s role in the AFL..
But…
Then…
I see him in early ‘22 (or was it ‘21?) absolutely smashing it! My brain got rearranged again. I’m a good way.
But alas, he maybe cooked and we must be brutal.
So it’s a sad tale and big props for DMac for fighting on.
I still wonder about who gets the medical bills even though I know we are on the drip .
