Dan McKenzie

Post: # 2036331Post B.M »

Let me get this straight

We paid a large amount of money to Send McKenzie to Germany

Delisted him

May pick him up as a rookie supplemental pick if he trains ok

But other clubs might nab him first in the RD/PSD

Are we on drugs down there?
Daniel is a solid citizen but no star - why are we forking out cash to delist him, get him maybe right with no guarantee we even secure him if he gets back?

The Saints paid for the expensive trip to Munich and are hopeful McKenzie can finally overcome the frustrating setbacks after the consultation with 'Healing Hans' discovered some issues with his lower back and ankle that had been contributing to his calf strains.

How likely is another club selecting him given his injury history? He never played 15 senior games in a year. At 27, nobody thinks there’s any upside. Will be a rookie/SSP by saints most likely.

Where does it say he was delistered?

It won't say he has been delistered anywhere, but, this article tells the tale.

We forked out the cash in order to see if he can play on.

List spots are more precious than cash.

He only get picked up again if he does not break down during the preseason.

The alternative would have been to sign him on again, but if he breaks down yet again over the preseason we end up a player down in 2024. With this strategy we are just risking a few $.

Another Club will only try and pick him up if he puts in a solid block of work. Very unlikely that another Club would make an early call to pick him up. Plus from all reports Dan wants to stay at St Kilda if possible.

I think it makes sense and is fair to club and player.
I read somewhere that the club had to offer him a contract or delist him.
As I understand it if he comes good, he can be signed up without going to the draft so if another club makes a better offer than us then good luck to him.

It would’ve made sense if he were contracted

OOC and getting delisted?

Dan McKenzie will only ever be a depth player. Hopefully gets to play 100 games in RWB.

A good employer thats what we are. He was injured playing or training for StKilda. Give him the chance to get back and fit.

That's probably true, and as such it would seem highly unlikely that any other club will make a play for him simply on the basis that he puts in a strong pre-season. He's no certainty to force his way into the team if every other player of his type (wing, HB, HF) is fit and available. The current list is substantially better than when DMac last played in 2022.

I’m glad there is at least some sentiment in the cut throat world of AFL. D Mac is obviously well regarded by those who matter at St Kilda. I hope he survives pre season and goes on to play many more games for the Saints

DMac is a Lyon type player. He would thrive if fit.
He may retire, but there seems there may have been hope a reasonable solution to his injuries reoccurring can be found.
If he can be 'fixed' he will get fit quick and will be valuable.

Yes, DMac is a Lyon type of player, he runs hard both ways like Maqualter, Eddy and Clint Jones, yet has average skills. Luke Ball and Jack Billings are skillful footballers, yet they don't run hard as the Lyon playbook demands.

He's much better than McQualter and Eddy and better skills than Clint Jones. He is a good football that needs a really good stretch of games.
