Thank god!!!
We didn’t look at Scott Lycett
Just the sort of dumb arse move we’d make
Besides being ordinary at best, he would get in the way of developing Heath at Sandy - we’ve already got Campbell doing that
In if they fkn rucked him in front of Rowan and moved Rowan forward - that’d be it for me.
Rowan is an A Grade ruckman - almost AA
And a C Grade forward
Lycett is a D Grade ruckman - same as Campbell
As it was Ro spent 3 years held up by Paddy - after a blistering 2019 as a ruck (B&F runner up) he was average for 3 seasons
Then back in the ruck and again dominated - RU B&F again

Re: Thank god!!!
While Marshall is great around the ground, he isn't the best in the centre bounce. He's not a tap ruckman. While he does grab it out of the ruck and boot it forward on occasion, that doesn't really help the forwards IMO. The best ruckmen can tap it down the throat of a mid who can then pinpoint pass to a leading forward. That's my idea of good ruck/centre play. Of course that doesn't happen too often with any team...lol.
But Lycett? NO!!!

Agree…Lycett’s cooked but I was as hoping we’d upgrade Cambell for a younger, more athletic option.
I’ll be keeping a close watch on Heath and Keeler over pre season!

Re: Thank god!!!
Marshall loved Ryder's support and said that aside from learning a great deal about ruck craft under Paddy, he reckons the experience will extend his career from a physical perspective. Marshall was awesome in 2019 for sure but his actual ruckwork this year was unreal. Row's development was not stifled/held up by having Paddy there, quite the opposite.
Marshall is our number 1 but obviously we need a capable backup. Lycett would've been an upgrade on Campbell from a talent perspective however it appears as though Campbell has embraced his role at the club.

Re: Thank god!!!
Marshall is a great round the ground ruckman, as good as any running around in the competition.
However, he is not a great centre square ruckman and definitely not a forward.
He needs to play as the number one ruckman and we need to accept that his tap work is his weakness in that role.
His tap work though is made up for by his ability around the ground where he is an exceptional contested mark and link up player.
We need a key forward or back that can give him a chop out in the ruck on occasion last season we struggled in that area with Owens being used there but lacking the size to compete.
Cordy was fine as the second ruck but lacks in his all round game, Hayes is our best bet but he is has only played a handful of games.

Do you have stats to support this view? Marshall tap work is actually right up there with the best.Jacks Back wrote: ↑Tue 31 Oct 2023 7:24am While Marshall is great around the ground, he isn't the best in the centre bounce. Rohan Marshall was ranked 34th (27.9%) in hit outs to advantage.Brunswicksainter wrote: ↑Tue 31 Oct 2023 2:26pmDo you have stats to support this view? Mitch Owens was ranked 1st (42.8%)
Of the recognised ruckmen in the comp:
Pittonet ranked 4th (35% from 18 games)
Tim English 10th (33.8% from 23 games)
Port Adelaide's Brynn Teakle ranked 11th (33.7 from only 4 games due to injury)
Todd Goldstein (33.4%)
Witts, Grundy, Draper, Gawn, Jackson, Cameron, Meek, Reeves, O'Brien, Hayes (another Port delisting), Lycett, Darcy, De Koning, and Phillips are all ahead of Marshall.
Of the recognised starting ruckmen in the league, he only beats McInerny, Williams, Stanley, Hickey, and Xerri.
So, it's fair to say that his tap work isn't his strong suit.
