Comments made by Lyon include:
"Our TPP is equal to Geelongs but without the flag"
"Gil told me not to be in a hurry and take the time to rebuild"
And the comment in his pressure after the loss in the final about "clearly we are rebuilding."
Being done very covertly so as to not scare the sponsors and members away.
A tough couple of seasons ahead though, don't think we will see finals for the next season or two.
Can we hold you to this prediction or will the goal posts shift as it has with the accuracy of BMs mass exodus?

Re: Mass exodus
Basset said straight out
Coaching change was made because the review suggested this list was capable of more.
Lyon was brought into to maximise the list
Last time he tried to rebuild he was sacked at Freo

Lyon is the best coach St Kilda has had bar Jeans. He will get the machine going.

Re: Mass exodus
You've convinced yourself of things that didn't happen BM.
Lyon didn't study the list. He just knew they had runners.
Bassett said that a different leadership was needed to bring long term success to a program that would compete with the best.
The review said, the list profile was in a good spot, as many young key players had not reached their prime but the list needed improvement at the top end.
The three players who left were all being paid too much and not producing enough. They are gone because they wanted to leave and they all took less money.
The anti-Lyon narrative e you are selling is just plain stupid.

Re: Mass exodus
Lyon is a good coach when he has a list that can execute.
Pretty much sums up many good AFL coaches.
Biggest challenge Lyon has is the club he coaches at.
Imagine him at Collingwood, Richmond or Geelong.
He will fail if the club can't get him the players needed to challenge.

Re: Mass exodus
10 players listed as leaving in the original post.
6 /10 correct is a pass, although not a strong pass. I’m not sure many others here would have picked better if we had to pick 10 players before the delist & trade season started.
I could believe that all the others (bar Alison perhaps) were given the option of leaving if they wanted to, so in hindsight kudos for the original post.

Re: Mass exodus
I predict there will be a mass exodus at the end of 2024, starting with Max King joining his brother, Hill, Wood, Webster, Allison, Howard, Stocker, Van Ess, Keeler among others

Your final question, on its own, suggests, not very. You do seem to have some insight but I do hope a lot of that insight fails you.
I do hope Killa that the brothers do reunite but in RW&B. I would also hope Hill, Stocker & Wood continue. As I also hope Van Es & Keeler remain at the club.

Bassatt and the Board knew the list was ok but also (and he’s stated it multiple times since) also stuck in no man’s land
The Board FINALLY realised the Ratcho years had been spinning them cr@p on how good this list was, how were “in the window “ (just absolute rot to keep their coaching jobs
Bassat (I think Blake and some of those closer to the footy) stop buying the nonsense and got serious
The spin BM puts out is boorish drivel
“Yeah….nah””

Re: Mass exodus
Interesting hearing Misson interview recently where he states the club is really happy with its TPP abd that it “enables us to be do something really interesting in next few years…”
Think we are lining for serious FA assault..
If so clearing Gresham Billing’s Coffield and putting a few on 1 year deals indicates the list transformation will continue…
Strategy looks like
1. Keep your 1st round picks to bring in talent
2. Look for low cost value eg Dow with potential high returns
3. Cash-in on FA talent
Holmes from Cats or Duggan be nice
No more overpaying spuds

Love our current approach.
For it to be successful we need to do what we did this year and play finals next year.
Then we have a compelling case to bring in free agents.

Re: Mass exodus
We didn't have a mass exodus when you compare all 18 clubs...so far we've had roughly the average number of delistings and loss of players to trades as others
Retirements aside, some of the more mature lists like Melbourne, Brisbane, GWS and Western Bulldogs had less than us

He made the finals this past season. All the experts had St Kilda in the bottom 4.
