Re: Billings wants out
Plenty of number 3 draft picks turned out average
Same with pick 1s 2s and most other top picks
Chris Masten no world beater
Billings played 150 games so far - not a bust!

Re: Billings wants out
Billing’s to the Pies and we pick up some of his salary.
If he doesn’t get picked up he’ll have to sit out next season on the side lines and who knows from there, early retirement possibly.

He has played so few match winning games, I bet you can rattle them all off at.....ah there you go.B.M wrote: ↑Sun 15 Oct 2023 9:40pm Umpires don’t use stats - that’s the problem
Judgement is subjective- evidence should be used
Either way, you can’t deny he’s played a lot of good AFL games
FFS
He kicked 4 in a quarter to win a game vs Footscray
Had 25 at 100% and kicked three in his first year (imagine if Phillipou did that?!)
He’s had 30 of a HFF

JB and Manager having a coffee
JB: Well, what's the story? Show me the money..(laughs)
Man: Ah na..Jack, no worries, let 'em play..let 'em say whatever..we got this..
JB: What did our list manager say last week?
Man: He said he needs time, and that he's going to sit down with his dog later and smoke a cigar..ya know...chew over it.
JB: What about Collingwood?
Man: keen..let them make an offer..then the Saints will start getting nervous.
JB: lol...why? As if..
Man: Well, see, JB. The Saints might figure you have one great season left in you, but you don't fit into Ross's team ..
JB: So...? Win, win...they let me go
Man: NOt so easy Jack
JB: ??eh
Man: You are more valuable to St Kilda staying on the list and playing at Sandy, maybe play four AFL games after the bye, than going to Collingwood or Hawthorn and playing 12 - 15 AFL games as a competitor..then, they figure your back will flare up, or hammies and calves
JB: So I get a one year contract at St Kilda, play my guts out for Sandy and then end up cooked and washed up..?
Man: Could be worse Jack..they will pay you more money than you deserve, to stay on the list..they might even offer you two years, with loads of clauses. Take it Jack!

Re: Billings wants out
Cute, but he has two years to go and is on $500k. He took the cooked deal at 4 × 500 2 years ago. He wants out for less. He just needs an op and another preseason in rehab. He will catch up in round 18.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Mon 16 Oct 2023 10:33am JB and Manager having a coffee

Re: Billings wants out
Even the AFL's basket case (Norf) don't want Billings.
Would it be different if he didn't have a 2 year contract in his desk drawer ?

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Re: Billings wants out
What if we keep him?
Gresham gone and therefore one injury away from him playing much more.
Even then he could attract more value in 12 months you would think.
Love RL tactically however i think sometimes he gets set on what players can't do as opposed to what they can do and how that can work for the team

Re: Billings wants out
Selection isn't a personal like/dislike exercise.
Billings was played when he was finally fit. Then he broke his thumb and after that others in the team were going ok.
Only 23 get picked and of that number a player is typically competing for one or two spots. Continuity of team composition is important.
The like/dislike narrative about Jack is silly. He knows he has stiff competition to get a game and so its natural to look elsewhere where he stands more of a chance. But at the moment there are no hopeless forwards going around (maybe Dogs?) and his injury history is highly problematic. As is or was his set shot record.
He needs to focus on replacing Dan Butler, who has recently learnt how to take good marks or become a useful mid/high forward off the bench.
The inevitable attrition of injuries will give him opportunities if he is ready to take them.

Billing wants out of the club desperately and the club want him gone.older saint wrote: ↑Mon 16 Oct 2023 11:39am What if we keep him?

You’d have to say based on how each party feels about the other that it’s untenable and the club will most likely force him to play out the remainder of his contract at Sandy if a new club don’t want him.

First he needs to get through a pre-season. This is the biggest problem. He is either injured or he isn't.

Not anymore, Lyon is big on players submitting themselves to the team and loyalty blah blah blah…which coach isn’t.
He desperately wants out…desperately.
He won’t get another game for us if he can’t find a club and will play at Sandy if that is the case…career effectively over if that happens.

Re: Billings wants out
Yes, then we could just delist him and not have him take up a chunk of our cap. If he’s still carrying on like a pork chop after not finding a suitor, perhaps it’s best to let him go. Otherwise, it sounds like he’d be potential locker room poison. We’ve waited an entire decade for that spud to come good. Time’s up, JB!

Now the narrative has changed from never got a chance, after being gifted a go on no preparation and a trail of injuries, in rounds 17, 19 and 20 and a couple more hammy strains.

Re: Billings wants out
Collingwood don't want Ginnivan and have a mild interest in JB.
So even though it looks like he has to stay if he wants to be an AFL footballer he can take comfort that Collingwood thinks he is better than Ginnivan. And we do too. I don't care what the other 16 sides think about our JB.
