It always hurts to lose players but there is no new players without a cost in trading. So happy enough in the end.

Oh, Gresham
I would give everything just to be like him 🎵

Ben McKay is worth a pick 3, yet Gresh is worth pick 21. Okay, AFaiL
McKay got offered more money. Its that simple.
So much for Essendope’s cap problems!

Compensation picks like Frawley #2 & McKay #3 make a mockery of the system.

Hawthorn got something like #18 for Franklin.

It pays to lose free agents while you are on the bottom of the ladder.

That contradicts reports I've come across that quote Gresham saying he likes playing for Lyon, he certainly was never dropped even when his form declined towards the end of the season. It's more likely that his manager has informed him that he'll get a better deal with Essendon than St Kilda are likely to offer him.

When the Bombers put a firm offer on the table tomorrow, if St Kilda is unhappy with the compensation pick from the AFL he might end up staying put.

Personally, I hope it will turn out that he does move to Windy Hill, on quite a few occasions he's played for himself rather than his team.
As Kevin Bartlett has always said, AFL is the language of lying.

Or as I like to say, if their lips are moving, they are lying.

Make no mistake about it, Gresh wants out.

Reckon that sums you up pretty well Vortex when it comes to matters pertaining to St Kilda FC, imagine that when others see a cloud with a silver lining you believe it's really ominously dark.....
You say cynic I say realist.

Ok then, while we are sharing personal thoughts of each other, you strike me as being a happy clapper:

Me a practising Christian Vortex???

No way known, in my early years as an 18 y.o., born and bred in passionate RC family in Springvale, I was patrolling villages as a govt officer in northern New Guinea and was very quickly dissuaded of the veracity of Christianity.

On the Rai Coast, Yali, a local leader had established a crippling cargo cult which was influenced by the spread of Christianity by a variety of Christian missions and in the 18 months I sent there it became crystal clear that back in the year dot there had also been a very gifted orator who preached to the simple ignorants urging them to follow him to the Promised Land.

Subsequently over the years I was fortunate enough to also spend time on New Britain and in the Sepik District where there were different cults but all based on Christian practices.

Have a quick read of the following biography, it's quite a fascinating story:

The kitchen may have got too hot for him under Ross and both he and the Club knew but were too polite to say outright.

Be a sight when both Jade and Jake blue over not being given the ball. Two prima donnas in one pocket.
Then again might be a potent combination.

Who would we play on Jade and Jake when we play them (assuming everyone is fit and firing)?

Gresh should go on to play 100+ games for Essendon
I’m not convinced our compo pick nets us a player who plays more than 100 games for us.
Time will tell.

Was great to have around when we had little other quality, for the spectacle, but in the end a terrible decision maker and poor ball-user far too often. If we even had to depart with 19 (21) for Henry, (which I hope we don't), this is an upgrade for us, at a lower cost.

And it is these little 5% gains you need to take, unless you finish bottom 4, to jump ahead.
Expecting 10-15% gains from Owens, Windhager, Philipou, Nasiah, pick 13, Henry vs Gresh, King, and then see how Keeler & Van Es progress.... we're on the right track.

Random:
I wonder how much S. Weideman is on.
And S. Draper, and will he be fit for next season.
McGrath and McKay if they gel would be a formidable team in defence. Thrifty Scotsmen.
I wonder if Gresh noticed the Essendon performances at the tail end of the season, including the pummelling from GWS. Might be harder to get a kick in the forward 50 in that side.
Essendon must be stretching its salary cap,
Gresh has become a journeyman mendicant and will have to learn another - but silly song - however will get to meet the famous Sheeds and may not have to sing the new song much.

Last time we let go someone for pick 21

It was the underperforming whipping boy Rhys Stanley

And we got drat slider bargain and 10 year key defender Hugh Goddard

We were doing cartwheels in the street at the time!!!!

Fast forward
Rhys is still going and a premiership ruckman

Not even sure if Hugh still plays footy

Bombers fans won’t be very forgiving if he doesn’t perform to expectations.

They can be a very nasty mob when things aren’t going their way.

Anyone who labours this as a good outcome is kidding themselves.

We might as well reminisce as to what great trades the Cripps or Hickey deals were, or what a stellar recruit Hannebery was.

However much Weideman is on is overs.
I'm slightly amazed he's a bigger spud than his old man.

Gresham was a free agent and he wanted to leave. It was the best outcome under the circumstances.

We needed the player we thought Gresh was going to be, not the player he ended up being. I still don't really understand why they tried making him a mid, when he was very good as a half forward early on.

With the exception of billy longer, every first choice ruck we’ve had since then has been a far better player than Rhys Stanley. He would’ve been delisted quick fast if he stayed.
