Re: Billings wants out
B.M STFU.
You made plenty of blunders on this goddam forum this season.
You throw a mass exodus news grenade on the forum and then walks off while it explodes.
If you aren’t contributing about Billings then be silent.
Here’s my take:
RTB is good. We got a great coaching staff and two great list and drafting managers. I’m excited for this silly season.
Can’t wait for billings to piss off. I want all the dead wood gone from this club. Goodbye Billings, piss off Coffield - no effing loyalty after we get you right and he crack the s***s because he didn’t get a game this year when players were ahead of him. Piss off gresham who is the most selfish player I’ve seen ever and he’s a huge party boy and kicks the ball like a toddler. Piss off Hunter Clark who is lazy, doesn’t run or bothers to get bigger for the season, heck I’m even bigger than him. Piss off Mackenzie who can’t even get a game for a year and half and when we do get him it’s like for 3-4 rounds before his body breaks down.
Give all the boys with question marks 1 year deals to prove themselves (which they did), let’s hit this draft hard and build around our nucleus of young players which will take us to a flag - OMG B.M THAS WHAT THEY ARE DOING. Just enjoy the ride you old fool.

Re: Billings wants out
He backed our guys against the Pies and Nick Daicos was not tagged.
He didn't check he was being recorded preseason.
He criticised the AFL over North compo and got Gill's nose out of joint.
He did not veto the way players were emotionally drained in the lead up to Spuds game.
Gave Gresham too many games.
Did not realise after a good first half against Carlton the mids would not touch the ball in the second half.
Ate sponsors junk food
Wore his heart on his sleeve a bit
and the list could go on....dad jokes, commitment to Phillipou, sending Windy to VFL to work on his craft......

Re: Billings wants out
There were threads criticising 2 of our players back in 2020 at the end of the year
It was the first year Brad Hill was at the club. We recruited 5 ready made players including Hill, Ryder, Howard, Jones, and Butler.
We made finals for the first time in a decade. It seemed like our football department and list managers were on the right track.
Four of the five recruits from other clubs made top 10 in our Best and Fairest in their first year with us...except for Brad Hill
Everyone knew Hill had come to us on big coin. The papers were reporting it was $850 or 900K per annum. But...was he worth it? How could your highest paid fail to make top 10 in the Best and Fairest?
Especially when he hadn't missed many games.
Another of our highest paid players who failed to make top 10 in the Trevor Barker Medal for 2020 was Jack Billings. He also hadn't missed many games.
Here's the thread where I discovered that Vortex got one right for once

Jack never played in a GF..so how could you know if he would stand up..Vortex wrote: ↑Fri 06 Oct 2023 9:39amAren't coaches meant to make their minds up on players?
I recon Billings number was up as soon as Lyon re joined the club and made the statement in almost one of his first media pressers about the club having the same player payments as Geelong yet without the flag. Jack was preserving himself this year no question about that and I reckon even he could have seen the writing on the wall.
Our list management processes have to evolve to a point whereby players only get 2 or 3 years to prove they have what it takes to be a GF type capable of standing up in the closing minutes of a close GF and unfortunately Billings has proven over a 10 year period he isn't up to it.
Clearly time for both parties to try something different.

Play me every game or I'm/ we are out ...love Pou and Dad ....huge risk of going home ...parochial small town people will want that more than anything ..on the money LorisSanctorum wrote: ↑Fri 06 Oct 2023 1:09pmI don't have an issue with your theory loris, that's probably very close to the mark and if true, the club ought to be congratulated for going all out to make Phillipou a long-term Saint, he is an absolute star of the future, probably become skipper one day.loris wrote: ↑Thu 05 Oct 2023 6:31pm I have a theory on why Pou was given games, when clearly his form didn’t warrant it towards the end of the season. He looked like he was running in quicksand in the final 4-5 games. Plus his defensive game was abysmal, doesn’t chase (maybe that’s because he’s not that quick or have the power, endurance in his legs. Waves an arm out if an opposition player runs off from him. Doesn’t attempt to chase & tackle.
Now I admit he is only young & doesn’t have strength & enduance of a seasoned AFL playe as yet. He is good in close with getting handballs out & appears to have a footy brain & quick instincts. Can take the odd speccy & is a beautiful kick. So he sure shows some promise.
Like many on here I thought he was being ‘gifted’ games when his ‘potential’ was wavering in the latter part of the season
My theory ( I’m ready for the knives in my back fellas), they want the kids signature to extend his contract beyond the 2 years.
If you listen to all of his interviews, the lad has a sizable ego. Plus dad has one hell of an influence on him. He says he speaks to his dad by phone a number of times a week. I hear him saying ‘Dad tells me what I’ve done right or could improve upon. Dad tells me to have confidence to go for more big marks’. Dad flies to see most of his games in Melbourne. In the interviews you don’t hear him in interviews say the coaches ( Harvey) tell him to go for the big marks. It’s dad this, dad that.
So my out of left theory is, play the kid whether he deserves a game or not - they want his signature on a contact, sooner rather than it dragging out. Dont want Dad blowing in his ear to return to SA as soon as his 2 years are up.
Whatcha think on my theory fellows? Go easy on me pl

Re: Billings wants out
Imo
Not using Marcus as a mid run with player
Allowing Sicily and Daicos to run around at HB getting ridiculous numbers
Continuing to select Phillipou when he was not contributing
Pigeon holing certain players putting limits on them
Just off the top of my head
Every coach makes blunders - none are perfect
If you think Ross is perfect you are delusional
Just got to make a lot more good decisions than bad.
BTW
Mass exodus
Billings - gone
Coffield - gone
Gresham - gone
McKenzie - gone
Clark - deal in front of him - may sign it - might not
This is the one I’m surprised about - that he’s likely to stay
Bytel - delisted
Adams - delisted
Membrey - unknown
Paton - unsure?
Highmore - not sure
Connolly - gone
Campbell - surprised he was offered another contract
Peris - Gone
That is 8 gone
I was expecting 10+ hence the thread - so a couple surprised me

Re: Billings wants out
Given most clubs turn over about 8 players per season and we did 7 in 2022, 8 in 2021, 9 in 2020 & 9 in 2019 it is pretty clear from our list changes over the past 4 seasons this year is going to be on par if not less than previous recent seasons and within normal range, not a mass exodus at all.B.M wrote: ↑Wed 11 Oct 2023 9:57am

I do appreciate the hysterical headline and the pages of interaction of the topic though.

Re: Billings wants out
I reckon its who the players are more so than how many are exiting, many of the players were once considered core players and part of our failed premiership tilt under previous coaches and we’re definitely front of mind when the Presidento wrote his famous letter to members claiming his premiership window.D.B.Cooper wrote: ↑Wed 11 Oct 2023 10:20amGiven most clubs turn over about 8 players per season and we did 7 in 2022, 8 in 2021, 9 in 2020 & 9 in 2019 it is pretty clear from our list changes over the past 4 seasons this year is going to be on par if not less than previous recent seasons and within normal range, not a mass exodus at all.B.M wrote: ↑Wed 11 Oct 2023 9:57am

Re: Billings wants out
How many of those players went to other clubs?
We will have 4/5 players leaving to go to other clubs. Which is a few.
Gresham is a first round selection 15
Coffield is a first round section 8
Billings a first round selection 3
McKenzie a second round selection 22
Still under consideration
Clark is a first round selection 7
Howard a trade for pick 18
Paton is a third round selection 46

Re: Billings wants out
Paddy and Jones were very important, and once Paddy became unavailable for some games, or was suspended or injured, we lost the structure a bit, then Jones and others got injured at the wrong time, and left Ratts in a bind. Had we not had those issues, we probably would have made the finals and Ratts would still be coach. Funny old game eh..Scollop wrote: ↑Mon 09 Oct 2023 10:45pm There were threads criticising 2 of our players back in 2020 at the end of the year

I think Lachie Schultz put an end to that meaning anything but Billings might be back up if that blonde streaked twit decides to leave.
His 2 x 500 will be upgraded to 3 x 350. Lol
