2023 trade period
Plenty of trade discussion going elsewhere - Threads on Gresham, Shiel, etc. but no general trade discussion thread.
Currently we hold:
Picks 12, 32, 51
The media has thrown the idea out there for a Clayton Oliver trade, and has stated "no clubs have shown interest, Oliver hasn't shown interest, Melbourne hasn't shown interest". Must be scraping the bottom of the barrel.
For arguments sake, what would you give up for him?

Re: 2023 trade period
It depends on what his actual issues are.
Seems to be something shady about his missed games this year, beyond just physical issues.
At his best, he is top 3 midfielder in the league and match winner.

I don't rate Paddy Dow highly but if we can pick him up for nothing as a delisted free agent, why not!

Re: 2023 trade period
Dodgy disposal but still a potential match winner. If he was gettable, it would take minimum 2 first rounders - I think we're better off using these top picks on bringing in some good kids.Banger9798 wrote: ↑Tue 03 Oct 2023 6:45pm It depends on what his actual issues are.

Re: 2023 trade period
I probably wouldn’t, though I would be very tempted to.
We need to hit the draft over the next 3 seasons to hopefully set the club up for the next ten years.
We can add to the list with smart trades and suitable FA.

Upside: could immediately launch us into serious contender status
Downside: could be the next hannerbury

Latest word is that Billings is off to Carlton and we get Dow and late pick in return.silverhalo wrote: ↑Tue 03 Oct 2023 7:00pm I don't rate Paddy Dow highly but if we can pick him up for nothing as a delisted free agent, why not!

Re: 2023 trade period
Given Carlton only have pick 16 then 65 to work with I'd be disappointed if it was the later.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Wed 04 Oct 2023 12:57amLatest word is that Billings is off to Carlton and we get Dow and late pick in return.silverhalo wrote: ↑Tue 03 Oct 2023 7:00pm I don't rate Paddy Dow highly but if we can pick him up for nothing as a delisted free agent, why not!
If it was something like
Dow and 16
For
Billings, pick 32 and a future 2nd
Then it seems fair.
Remembering Dow can potentially come for free. Billings is contracted.

Re: 2023 trade period
Carlton need points next year for both Camporele boys.
Dow plus their first rounder this year
For
Billings and our next year second rounder and our next years fourth rounder
We have leverage because technically Dow can just hold off signed and then become a Delisted free agent
Essentially that is:
Billings + next years second rounder points for this years first rounder (will probably drop to pick 19)
Our next year fourth rounder points for Dow - so at least they get something

Re: 2023 trade period
As good a player as Oliver is he is another inside mid.
A starting midfield of Steele , Crouch and Oliver sounds good but all would likely lose a race with Ro to the edge of the square, all tough in and under not explosive which i think we need.
Based on what you would have to give up not worth it. ( replace name with say Petracca different story)

The Clayton Oliver trade is the trade you have when you aren't having a trade.Otiman wrote: ↑Tue 03 Oct 2023 5:59pm Plenty of trade discussion going elsewhere - Threads on Gresham, Shiel, etc. but no general trade discussion thread.

Re: 2023 trade period
We don't really because he is not a free agent.BackFromUSA wrote: ↑Wed 04 Oct 2023 8:32am We have leverage because technically Dow can just hold off signed and then become a Delisted free agent
The only way he can become a delisted free agent is if Carlton actively delist him - which they are yet to do.
If he refuses to sign a tabled offer, then he goes into the pre-season draft with a nominated price on his head. There are many clubs that pick before us. Anyone of those can take Dow.
We do have leverage because Carlton will want something for him instead of nothing.

Re: 2023 trade period
I don’t agree. There is serious smoke around the Clayton Oliver trade. Tom Morris has a number of close contacts and sources within Melbourne, his speculation/reporting around Melbourne has always been spot on. He is reporting that they are floating the idea of trading him. Don’t think st Kilda will have the capital to facilitate a trade though.ace wrote: ↑Wed 04 Oct 2023 9:57amThe Clayton Oliver trade is the trade you have when you aren't having a trade.Otiman wrote: ↑Tue 03 Oct 2023 5:59pm Plenty of trade discussion going elsewhere - Threads on Gresham, Shiel, etc. but no general trade discussion thread.

Re: 2023 trade period
A close source to Oliver has just told me he is cooked. The injury he got earlier this year will never be right again.
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Let's hope Essendon leave Gresh alone and take him then.happy feet wrote: ↑Wed 04 Oct 2023 2:12pm A close source to Oliver has just told me he is cooked. The injury he got earlier this year will never be right again.

Re: 2023 trade period
Bing has a contract extension offer at the Suns, maybe to draw out some trade speculation. I'm not particulary interested in him anymore.

Re: 2023 trade period
I wonder if Bing plays as bad as he did last season with 4-5 games with only a hand full of touches and no goals would Hardwick drop him.
I know he was not allowed to be dropped by Stewart Drew but Hardwick is a different prospect.
GC have enough players now to cover him so he very well might be up for grabs next season and I think we should go for it if possible.

Re: 2023 trade period
Watching the trade period is like being an alcoholic and every day a few people let you sniff the bottle and then take it away from you.
I sometimes think it'd be better to pay no attention to it until it's over.
All I know for sure is that Adrian Dodoro, true to form, is going to make a complete tnuc of himself

Re: 2023 trade period
The AFL cleverly drip feeds us, making sure that interest in the game is kept at a maximum all year round. I'm happy for it, mind you
I just feel that for the Saints most trade periods are like going on a dinner blind date expecting a stunner and when we get there Godzilla is sitting at the table
