Re: Trevor Barker Award
Not sure how Jack Higgins finished 8th ahead of Mason Wood. I actually thought Butler had a slightly better season than Higgins.

Re: Trevor Barker Award
Crouch polled well among those who took time to vote each week in the Eastern Memorial Player of the year (36 votes). Hill only polled 13.
That's a stark contrast to the Trevor Barker Medal. Crouch finished in equal 6th with Brad Hill. Hill also missed a week. Crouch played all games.
The umpires in the Brownlow also liked Crouch but he didn't poll as well in the Coaches Association Award...Anyway
Well done to both for a very consistent year and well done to all the top 10.

Re: Trevor Barker Award
The gap in scores from 6th to 7th is notable as is the smaller margin between 8th and 10th. Would suggest there was little between 8th and 18th (without having seen the full results)Sainternist wrote: ↑Mon 02 Oct 2023 11:37pm Not sure how Jack Higgins finished 8th ahead of Mason Wood. Re: Trevor Barker Award
This is pleasing - considering that with 5 voters if they award 1 vote (played role effectively (but should not be used as an encouragement reward)) it would be 115 - so finally a top ten that did more than 'play their role consistently - but actually managed best on grounds for St Kilda at least

Re: Trevor Barker Award
I agree with both your points. Wood had a better season than Higgins and, although Jack had a couple of stellar games ( which probably got him into the top 10), overall Dan Butler was more consistent and , frankly, more team-oriented. FWIW, Wood and Butler cost us much less at the trade table than Higgins, though I accept that has no impact on B&F voting .Sainternist wrote: ↑Mon 02 Oct 2023 11:37pm Not sure how Jack Higgins finished 8th ahead of Mason Wood. At round 19, I believe Mason was sitting in 9th spot.
Just pipped for a top 10 I reckon

Re: Trevor Barker Award
Yeah, both Woody and the Butler cost us virtually nothing. The latter was pretty much gifted to us from Richmond. I still think Higgins is a valuable player (he led our goal kicking, for one), but wasn’t as consistent as Woody. Butler’s role this year was quite understated with his work rate lifting significantly. Before this year, I didn’t think the Higgins-Butler combo worked effectively enough, but Lyon’s game plan made it work far better in ‘23.George27 wrote: ↑Tue 03 Oct 2023 10:12amI agree with both your points. Sainter Dad,
If you haven't already, how does the Trevor Barker rankings compare with the Sensational weekly voting, if that's aggregated. Please.

Re: Trevor Barker Award
Gave it a quick go. Normalised the numbers based on the ratio of Sinc's votes between the two awards.
Players sorted in order of SS voting.
And ranks in each award, TBA only up to 10. If anyone has the remaining votes I can update.

Re: Trevor Barker Award
As per Otiman and the post above - we were pretty similar - differences being mainly that we had Crouch inside the top 5 and TBA had him at 6 and Mitchito at 8th and TBA ranked him 4th.
We shared the top 3 - 2nd and 3rd in alternative order
We had Steele at 6th - TBA 9th and Mason at 7th - TBA - probably 11th and we did not rate Higgo and Battle as highly as TBA.
Overall - with the Boxed Trifecta we did well and with 8 of the top TBA 10 we pretty much agreed on the movers and shakers.

Re: Trevor Barker Award
Most of the difference would come down to the voting.
In a good win, 23 players could receive votes in the TBA. In a poor loss you might not have anyone polling votes.

Re: Trevor Barker Award
Clearly....you were wrong. Wood started the year in AA contention, but his form dropped off. Even in some games where he accumulated possessions, he wasn't as influential as in his first 6-8 games
Hill has had an outstanding year imo. Much better than 2021 and equal to his efforts in 2022.

Re: Trevor Barker Award
Did his drop off coincide with his shoulder injury ?
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Re: Trevor Barker Award
Most probably. He's had his most consistent 2 year stretch of games for his whole careerbobmurray wrote: ↑Fri 06 Oct 2023 11:08pmDid his drop off coincide with his shoulder injury ?
Last year (for the 2022 Trevor Barker Medal) I thought Wood was also top 10 and Hill again slightly ahead of him.

Perhaps if you notify the club of your voting they may reassess and reverse the results.

Re: Trevor Barker Award
How many votes did ya give Billings in rounds 17, 19 and 20? Might have done ok if he got those last couple in eh?
