Re: Zak Jones
Yes, hopefully he doesn't spend another season as a list clogger.
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Tray Jones. Not worth a Zac any more.
Value deflated from 6 pence to three pence; could still be a fun addition to the pudding mix but.

Re: Zak Jones
Excellent Yorkeys only those living before or around 14 Feb 1966 would appreciate your post.
Alas those post 14/02/1966 coins were too toxic to cook in the pudding mix, they could only be snuck in after the pudding was cooked.
Let’s hope our current 5cent player isn’t too cooked and can get through another season without something going ‘ping’!

Re: Zak Jones
Agree he is the perfect sub.
Has the pace and aggression to impact when he comes on.
Hopefully it’s a one year deal on a reduced contract.
He’s been averaging about 12-13 games per season over his career, so this is probably our best case.
If he can play as a sub he may be more durable.
Although I rate him as a C grade mid, he is capable of a high output games and has a point of difference to Ross, Crouch, Steele, Clark etc.
There's only one rule in the jungle! When the LYON's hungry, he eats!

Re: Zak Jones
I would have preferred we cut him loose. Only played 4 games of senior footy this year
Played 13 last year. He took leave of absence at the start of 2022 (just prior to round 1) for personal reasons to 'take care of his 'mental health'.
There was speculation on here that he self reported and because of the rules on multiple offences he had to sit out for 6 weeks.
If there's any truth in those rumours, then we're stuck with a player who is injury prone due to more than just bad luck. In other words, his body can't cope with this level of sport anymore

Absolutely rate him as a player and he’s exactly what we need but I have no faith in his ability to deliver and that’s primarily because I don’t think he’s prepared to do the work/make the sacrifices.
Seems like he’ll always be a risk of a strain/tear at any stage of a match including coming on late and my bet is that his attention to his prep and recovery is lacking

That's a disgrace putting "mental health" in quotes like it's not a real thing.Scollop wrote: ↑Fri 29 Sep 2023 5:07pm Played 13 last year. He took leave of absence at the start of 2022 (just prior to round 1) for personal reasons to 'take care of his 'mental health'.

Especially given that we had one of our players miss our final because of the same reason.
We have no clue as to what is going on in players or their families personal lives.
There is too much air time and bandwith given to gossip mongerers.

Re: Zak Jones
I wouldn't call putting quotes around a phrase, albeit a sensitive one, a disgrace. It's contentious but far from being a disgrace.
There's also a kernel of truth to Scollop's post. Just because you don't like it, doesn't change the fact.

Re: Zak Jones
Is it fact now?
Of course there's evidence to back that up?
If not, it is idle gossip.
And someone saying it in an anonymous forum doesn't make it fact.

The kernel of truth I was referring to was a general comment on how some people play the mental health card.

You'll notice I started my post with a couple of undisputed facts regarding games played and continuing injury concerns.
What was the cost of focussing on Dan Hannebery's recovery every 2-3 months?
It takes effort and time from the football department for ALL our players and to help them not only recover from injuries, but prepare for each game.
I'd rather our fitness, medical staff and high performance people spend time with players who are durable and will be around for the next 5-10 years.

The comment was made under a thread titled Zak Jones, not "some people".SaintPav wrote: ↑Fri 29 Sep 2023 8:11pmOf course it’s not a fact for obvious reasons.Life Long Saint wrote: ↑Fri 29 Sep 2023 7:39pmIs it fact now?

The "mental health" reference was made specifically in relation to Zak Jones.
Making a baseless claim that Zak played the "mental health" card is a disgrace. He took leave of absence at the start of 2022 (just prior to round 1) for personal reasons to 'take care of his 'mental health'.

Re: Zak Jones
That’s what I thought was being alluded to.
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Re: Zak Jones
Using the “ “ for mental health is a way of saying “we just don’t know the real story” I would have thought.
And fair enough.
But by all means, go ahead and reach for the ‘Cancel button’ …the Jacobites are in town, and they’re here to stay.

Re: Zak Jones
Hmmm...
Typically the use of quotes around a phrase or word means that it's not the real thing.
e.g. I'm "working from home" tomorrow means that I will be home doing things other than work, but I'll check my emails to make sure I don't miss anything.
Everyone knows that you're not working at all.
I'd have thought that after the Tim Membrey scare that we'd all be a little more understanding and take a mental health reason on face value and not try to baselessly speculate for another reason.
As I said earlier, we have no idea what's going on in a players personal life either directly or indirectly that may take their focus away from footy.
Leave the gossip mongoring to Caro and Hutchy!
