Caminiti will be a beast in a couple of seasons.
Fast, strong great kick, plays on quickly (too quickly sometimes), very attacking, good grab.

WOW, so a 19 yo kid picked up in the Supplemental Selection Period (SSP) and played heaps of games and was replaced when he was spent late in the year. The only possible way he won't improve is if he gets seriously injured, surely.magnifisaint wrote: ↑Wed 27 Sep 2023 3:55pm Maybe Caminiti. I don't think he's that good. Re: Brodie McLaughlin linked to Saints
Or if he’s just not that good? Time will tell.
Maybe he will develop- maybe he won’t?
He was a supplemental selection for a reason.
What he did last season was unbelievable from where he came from, but he’s got a long way to go before he makes the grade.

Re: Brodie McLaughlin linked to Saints
Wow surely you are baiting people, if not that is one of the most ill informed statements I have seen on this site. Caminiti will be a key forward at St Kilda for the next 12 years. Playing as a tall forward is the hardest position on the ground and the year he produced as a 19yo with no pre-season and very little support was exceptional. Very few players have been able to produce similiar in their first year, let alone hold down a key forward position.magnifisaint wrote: ↑Wed 27 Sep 2023 3:55pm Maybe Caminiti. Nick Riewoldt was a No 1 pick and once in a generation player in his first year playing forward (2nd year at Saints) he averaged 14 disposal per game, 8 marks and 1 goal per game. He also had a number of All Australian players Gehrig & Hamill helping him out in the forward line.
Caminiti averged 9 disposals per game, 4 marks per game and also 1 goal a game, with very little support. He has all the traits to become a special player - speed, leap, great hands, good kick, forward pressure, aggression. When he fills out, gets stronger and can hold his position better, he will become a very very good player.
If we are chasing McLaughlin I think it suggests the club are concerned Membrey wont play again. It would be devasting for Tim and the club if he cant get back to playing. He has carried our forward line for years and just when it looks like we will have some players to help carry the burden he suffers from a serious health condition.

Re: Brodie McLaughlin linked to Saints
Hamill was never AA
Riewoldt played a large portion of 2002 at CHB
Caminiti did well for a first year player
Whether or not he improves is yet to be seen - some players do others don’t

Re: Brodie McLaughlin linked to Saints
I’m sure I heard RTB say in an interview when discussing Caminitti something like “you’d be happy with his season if he was a top 10 pick” or comments along those lines.
Based off a VFL preseason.
Good enough for me to believe the young man has a future in the game.

You’d want to hope they’ve got another role in mind for Owens, get him in the midfield where he belongs.SuperDuper wrote: ↑Wed 27 Sep 2023 6:02pm Looks similar to Sharman...
But also looks like
1. they dont think Camniti is ready
2. are not confident that Membrey will be back
3. have a different role in mind for Owens, rather than 3rd tall forard

Caminiti should be in the gym all summer and hopefully he can bulk up and put 5-8kgs of muscle on.SaintWiki wrote: ↑Thu 28 Sep 2023 7:33amWOW, so a 19 yo kid picked up in the Supplemental Selection Period (SSP) and played heaps of games and was replaced when he was spent late in the year. Had a great year for a kid coming into the AFL system so late, I believe there is plenty of upside to him especially once he gets a real preseason under his belt.

I'm not baiting. I thought he was ok in about 5 games but was a liability in his last few. A proper preseason will help him, but I think he needs to improve a lot to keep his spot. The forward line looked so much better with Membrey there.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Thu 28 Sep 2023 11:23amWow surely you are baiting people, if not that is one of the most ill informed statements I have seen on this site. Re: Brodie McLaughlin linked to Saints
Kosi played CHB for the majority of 2001
Reiwoldt only played a handful of games - as a medium forward
He was injured for the first 16 weeks - knee
In 2002 Kosi was injured and missed most of the year - back
In 2002 Nick played around half the season at CHB and ended up playing forward. That was Loewe’s final season.

Some club might get Bing when he gets fed up playing 2nd fiddle to Walter.
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Camininti
Booming kick
And long arms
Aggression
Tick tick tick
But…..
Game sense?
Running into and colliding with, spoiling his team mates?
Choosing options? Etc
That is sorely lacking.
Let’s see in 12 months
Could be anywhere or anything
I don’t think he added much TBH except for the first three or four games, but fair enough, just a junior now.

Re: Brodie McLaughlin linked to Saints
Did anyone recall seeing the No 1 draft pick Aaron Cadman play this year? He looked like a fish out of water at AFL level, its obvious the key forwards take sometime to develop. If we held last years draft mid way through this season Caminiti would have been taken in the top 5. Yes he made some errors in games but most of that was due to inexperience and or over enthusiasm.
People seem to be judging him on his last few games when he was cooked and was trying to find his way in the ever changing forward structure. Its a very short sighted view of the kids a 19 yo strengths and weaknesses. I have absolutley no doubt he will become a very very good long term player for the club.

I disagree with that.B.M wrote: ↑Thu 28 Sep 2023 6:23pm Kosi played CHB for the majority of 2001

Loewe’s final season yes, but Buckets played forward/ ruck. Gehrig was injured and Reiwoldt played back for 3 or 4 matches at best (one where he got toweled up by A Rocca from memory)then went forward and stayed there.
I think B&F, Saints leading goal kicker or very close to it and Rising Star.
I recall him playing mainly alongside Hammel that season who I believe was a very good mentor senior influence at that time.

Re: Brodie McLaughlin linked to Saints
Nick was averaging about 13/14 possessions per game in the first 8 rounds - and about 7 marks per game
And kicked 1 goal
I would suggest he was at CHB
Arrived as a star forward in Round 22 where he kicked 6 vs Melbourne
Up until that point he’d kicked 15 goals in 21 games

Apart from Kosi playing the first 4 games Riewoldt scored in 16 games. Not likely he spent too much time at CHB.B.M wrote: ↑Sun 01 Oct 2023 2:05pm Nick was averaging about 13/14 possessions per game in the first 8 rounds - and about 7 marks per game

Re: Brodie McLaughlin linked to Saints
While I too am not keen on another 193-ish cm player, in terms of 2024 we do have a very question marks on our key/big forwards
King = Yes
Hayes = Can he stay on the park?
Membrey = unknown
Caminiti = Good raw talent, but very young still
Sharman = If he continues this year's form he is a yes
Keeler = Good raw talent, but very young still
Allison = Not sure he will make it. Still radiates being a very good athlete who just is not a footballer.
Cordy = no
Now for 2025, we will hopefully have Caminiti and Keeler coming good. Plus Phillipou will hopefully have the body to match his talent, and when forward will be making opposition backs very nervous. Plus Owens might be in full bet mode by then.

Re: Brodie McLaughlin linked to Saints
Brodie is 193, about the same height as Nick Riewoldt, so definitely not too short.
Max King is tall, but would benefit with a Strong colleague.
Jack Hayes & Caminiti are strong, but not proven at this level.
Sharman is not especially tall, and not overly strong.
Brodie has similar attributes as Tim Membrey. A strong mark, proven goal kicker, tough, has footy smarts and is an endurance runner. Perhaps similar to Collingwoods Brodie Miocheck, but a better runner.
As an uncontracted player, having played zero games and surplus to Gold Coast requirements he won't cost anything.
An outstanding moneyball selection.
