It’s a sad day for the club and the football world. Not long after Barassi’s passing.

RIP Cowboy :(

Vale the great Cowboy

Was my first favourite player

He could make Moorabbin shake when he took off, and all Saints walked taller when he was on the field

I had a summer job working in Ballarat in the same store as Val Perovic, (I used to try and get the same tea break so I could quiz him, this was 1973)

I remember asking him about Cowboy and he told me how much of a legend he was (that’s the only story I remember about that time)

Dementia is a horrible disease and unfortunately he had it for a long time

#18 was and always will be the Cowboy’s

RIP Cowboy

Did a lot for the club as a player and then after playing I believe.

Was always easy to get in touch with and arranged for some excellent contacts for me to assist with charity work.

I loved watching the big fella play.
I remember the drop kicks out of full back in the early Moorabbin years when switched to defence.

Always friendly and a gentleman, but that was off the field. Ferocious on it!

A legend of the club without doubt.

So, so sad. Rest in peace, great man. He was the heart and soul of the St Kilda Football Club, his 13 seasons as a player spanned our greatest era.

Upon retiring from the VFL he became a legend in th A.C.T. while coaching Ainslie, which has an impressive display of Cowboy memorabilia at the entrance of its licenced club. Weighing in around 18 stone, he booted 6 goals against Footscray in a night game win and famously coached the A.C.T. to a win over the Big V. Moving to S.A. he coached Central Districts.

True to his roots, he returned to the Saints and undertook various roles including coordinating the various coterie groups before reting.

Another reason we so desperately need another premiership, having lost two of our all time greats in Cowboy and Alan Morrow in the past two months. No timframe as to when, just do it next year.

Too young to see Cowboy as a young footballer, and the lamb chops told me he was from a different time, but I could see what an impact and presence he had on the field as a senior down at full-back.

And as a retired player immediately liked him when I saw him on those few occasions he popped up on TV.

One of the legends of St Kilda’s greatest era.

RIP

R.I.P Cowboy, had the privilege of watching you play.
My favourite memory of you happened during the 1972 Elimination Final when John Cassin thought he could take you out jumped a couple of metres to hit you, hit your side and bounced twice as far back totally winded.
Cowboy, just shrugged it off like nothing happened.

Think of me long enough to make a memory.

R.I.P. Cowboy. I saw him play up close in my younger days and I would not have gotten in his way- big, tough and talented. Sad to see Cowboy and RDB gone all of a sudden.

Cowboy was 78 while Barrassi was 87.

Both suffered from dementia Though.

Cowboy loved the Saints. Barrassi didn't.

I knew both of them. Cowboy I liked.

And our first and only flag.

He was always a bit pissed that he kicked 5 goals while Breen with a single point got all the credit.

Channel 9 nine news had a report remembering Cowboy.

They also paid respects for his passing on The Sunday Footy Show.

Yeah, always got the impression Barassi had no love for St.Kilda.
