Phantom Draft

Post: # 2031155Post B.M »

Out

TBH there isn’t a lot to get excited about in our area of the draft

Top few look great, but falls away after that

Apparently only about 50 kids will get drafted, with some clubs only taking 1 pick!

Any way we trade up for GC pick 4?

Next year's FRDP and several 2nd and 3 Rd rounders?
They just need points for the academy kids

Apparently Bulldogs are front runners for that pick 4

Will be interesting to see what happens. If you believe what you hear on radio top 11 inc 3 GC academy players , are clear of the rest and then bit of a lottery.

Melb, thanks to freo's terrible season, also a contender for the early pick with CG or may even trade up to 1 with WC who need multiple players.

Would like to see us get creative but history says unlikely. New rules regarding selling cap space for draft picks may work ok if Billings goes and Jones doesn't get a deal as that will free up $. 1st rounder in the teens, Gresham will determine what happens in 2nd round.
Will be interesting to to see how this year and next year stack up and if trades are for this year of futures.

Would be ideal to somehow get our hands on pick 7 (easier said than done!) for an elite midfielder like Sanders and then use our pick 13 on getting an elite tall defender of which there seems to quite a few options.

As long as they are Private Schooled they will be excellent.

I would love to add some grunt and toughness anywhere on the field for us like a Maynard. So many times when there is a opposition player bullying someone on our team. Very few go to their aid. If you look at Collingwood any time someone gets pushed there’s five players on them straight away. That’s morale building. Please know they can rely on each other and I’ll do anything for each other.

Having a look at Twomeys phantom draft, and assuming will have a pic from between 12 to 15. I like to look at Wilson from his bio and video. Someone who won’t miss the easy goals like our current crop do . Goal kicking tends to be a natural instinct rather than something you can build. This guy seems to have it. He’s a really nice kick and showed some good left-handed handballs. If we need anything, we need guys with good skills. Too many handballs hit the floor for us, and too many opportunities get missed through dinky actions, mostly from our leading goal kickers.
Regarding grunt and toughness, I’m referring to outside the private school system curly. I hate that system.

We need to nail this first round pick.

I personally think we should go for Darcy Wilson. Hovering aroun pick 12-15. Two way runner. Reminds me of Dal Santo / Jake Kelly type that kicks goals. Kind of midfielder we need.

So you don't want players from Private schools but want someone like Maynard, who is from a private school?

Look outside the private school Brighton Malvern area.

To find a player like Brayden Maynard like Cordz suggested? Brayden Maynard who went to a private school in Malvern.

Its like saying we should recruit players like Tony Lockett, but also not recruit from Ballarat.

There is a new strategy, the recruiters are going to head out to 5th rate butt f#ck leagues in the sticks in the hope of finding a hidden gem 😂😂😂

Now there is a strategy that will pay off!

Don’t look at the concentration of scholarship talent, don’t frequent country interleague games, ignore the elite Under 18 comp, forget the VFL and interstate premier leagues, the real talent is in buttf#ck country leagues. 👍

Patrick Cripps and Nat Fyfe were both boarders at a private school in Perth.

It’s almost like good player come from everywhere, private schools, government schools, Melbourne, interstate, city, country leagues. How about the recruiters just look everywhere?

Cameron? Do you mean private school boy Charlie Cameron from Marist College or Jeremy who came through the elite pathways programs including the Ballarat Rebels and the AIS?

Which Cripps do you mean? Doesn’t really matter as Jamie and Patrick were both private school boys and I’m guessing Aquinas College
must be a favorite player breeding ground of yours as it not only hosted Patrick Cripps but also Nat Fife. I guess that’s why you named these players.

Dusty of course also came via elite pathway from the Bendigo Pioneers and the AIS.

Let’s hope this year we avoid those private school boys and elite pathway players and make a speculative pick like a 20 year old wingman from some back water 5th rate competition, that would make great sense.

Avoid the private school system, because none of the elite talent get scholarships, also avoid the elite pathways.

Use your limited recruiting resources to scour s*** leagues in the hope of finding a long shot rookie who will get the axe after two seasons 😂

Maybe, but you have no idea at all and not just about football.

Your claims that recruiters are missing talent in s*** box leagues is as rational as your umpires cheating dementia rants.

Don’t send your recruiters to the elite junior competitions and private schools, that’s just a waste of resources.

Curly says the real talent is in deliverance country.
Urgent memo to all AFL recruiters, get your collective arses down to butt f*** country and see the real talent on display.

There is a version ‘Gary Ablett playing at Drouin’ a nice hot cuppa from Curly’s thermos, and a sausage with sauce and onion just waiting for you.

What schools did Cripps, Cameron & Fife go to again Curly?

Yep, Curly knows football 😂😂😂😂😂

What i don't fathom is at last years draft they told us this years draft was going to be a cracker, now they are telling us this years draft is lacking.
Who are the idiots that rate the following years draft.

Recruiting is a tough gig.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

We don't need key defenders.
We need midfielders.

If we can't work our way up the draft into the top 10, without knowing what next year looks like, I'd sell all our picks for earlier picks next year. And try stockpile for next year by offloading Billings, Howard, Clarke, Gresh, Coff........ whoever..... clubs more willing to offer higher future picks than current ones.
