StKilda has had two interviews with Cam Nyko from the Eastern Ranges.

From his draft profile, he looks like a running ball hunter with clean kicking skills, a long boot and clean hands.

He cant be drafted until next year, so unless the rules change we have to hope he goes outside the top 40 picks.

Hope Hunter Clark gets to his desired destination this year - sick of the constant conjecture of whether he's staying or going!

I hear the sun's are looking to off load Chol for a salary dump. Like Geelong and Bowls last year, this is a perfect opportunity for us to get another top 10 ten pick and a decent player who could benefit our structure.
Adding 2 potential stars would be more beneficial to our succes than adding a fringe player to build our depth.

Imagine Loosing Gresham and getting Shiel & pick 13.
The Loosing a stack of later pick and getting Chol & pick 4.

Wow.. we'd take picks 4, 12 & 13 to the draft. This could set us up for the next 10 years.

Plus getting 2 players that could be handy

We would have to set this all up before other teams grab picks and deals from each other … but hopefully we are not just waiting for the trade bells to ring before we start floating scenarios in the background!

We start with 12, 31 and 51

Gresham
Coffield
Billings
looking for new starts.

None of them in reality will get us value without extra draft picks thrown in.

Gresham goes to Essendon on inflated contract and we get 13 compensation.

We give 31 to Essendon for Sheil and take on his full salary.

Now we have 12, 13, 51

Coffield and our next years 2nd rounder goes to Dogs for their pick 17 this year and next years third rounder. Dogs also have pick 10 so 17 is gettable if they really want Coffield and a sweetener. That sweetener might have to be next years second rounder which is a good sea for them because 17 is an end of first rounder. It values Coffield currently as a mid second rounder on this years ladder positions. The dogs are reasonably fair trade wise.

Now we have 12, 13, 17, 51

And an extra 3rd rounder for next year but the loss of our second rounder next year.

For Henry and Fremantle’s pick 41 this year we give up 17.

Now we have 12, 13, 41, 51

Swap that 41 and 51 (points equal pick 28) to Gold Coast for their next year 2nd rounder (likely to be 25-30) - as they need the points this year.

Now we have 12, 13,

And we have gained back a second rounder next year.

That sets us up for the Dow deal.

Carlton needs points next year for the Camporele boys … so Billings plus the Suns next years 2nd rounder AND the Dogs next years 3rd rounder for Dow plus their pick 16 this year.

That would give us picks 12, 13, 16 this year.

In reality that will probably be pick 15, 16 and 19 or 20.

That gives us three very very solid future AFL footballers.

On average - one star, one solid and one dud.

We also keep our first and third and fourth rounder next year still.

At this point:

In: Sheil, Henry, Dow, 12, 13, 16

Out: Coffield, Billings, Gresham and next years second rounder

Three midfielders for 3 flankers.

Three (late) first round draft picks.

Pre-season or mid season draft we need a back up to our back up ruckman - even if that is from left field.

Can someone ring the St Kilda football club and let them know the trade period has started, we need some action early, shake this list up and leave time for a surprise trade.

I know Ive got a few "mates" which in and of itself is sus...how did I get mates let alone mates who have teeth and work in industry ITK positions?

So...my mate in Sydney works for the NRL. He says he was sent up to Brisvegas to a meeting. He went to eat at a spot and who did he see?

Justin Leppitsch and Ben King chowing down. He said they were too far to hear anything but when they got up Justin gave him a tablet ( ipad or the like).

I ran him over trying to ascertain if this was true or he was winding me up. He swears by it.

I will literally karate kick an anvil to the moon if Ben goes to Pies.

Taryn Thomas is a top 10 talent, but sounds like a #1 dick of human (female rom reports read in press).

Would you take the punt on him next year as a DFA?

I want to see how this year plays out first. Love to know more details about what he has done, and whether that is forgivable or not, and whether he has learned from it, and come out a changed person. Because if he has not grown with all that help, he is a lost cause.

Sounds like he has not learnt his lesson at all, even with all of Norths resources at his disposal.
People make mistakes. But if they can’t learn from them, that’s a real problem.
It’s a no from me. Too far gone.

I was just looking at the Darcy Jones article on the AFL site, he seems to have filled out nicely in his couple of years with GWS. It will be an interesting comparison to his development against Lance Collard. Both were around the same build when drafted so hopefully Lance can make the size improvements that Darcy has over that period.

Both are going to be excitement machines leading into the future.

Initially I was against chasing Tarryn Thomas, but IF he has proven to make some significant personal changes over the year perhaps he is worth looking at. In the current national climate with issues of domestic violence against women, he will have to have some stringent contractual clauses if we do take him on. Footballing wise any midfield talent we can add to the list is a boon for the list/club, but he comes with the obvious warning bells.

In another forum over the draft period I made it obvious that I was keen on the club grabbing Cooper Simpson (Freo) at the draft. It was nice to see him have such an impact when coming on as a sub against the Dogs, I think he is going to be player we will regret not taking. Having said that we took Angus Hastie who isn't a midfielder, but is looking like he will become a decent player in his own right.

The other player I was keen for the club to look at was Patrick Voss 20yo 194cm kpp who was picked up for zip by Freo. He played as a key forward the other night, but I think his best position will eventually be as a key defender and for that reason was hoping our club would grab him. Anyway I guess we cant take them all ....
