What price Liam Henry?
Confirmation this week that Liam Henry wants to play for a Victorian team has got me wondering what it would take to get him to Moorabbin.
Past experience tells us that Fremantle will drive a very hard bargain to let Henry go, they picked him up at pick 9 in the 2019 draft.
No question that Henry would be an outstanding acquisition for St Kilda and go a long way to adding some real zip midfield and at stoppages. At 180 cm he's taller than Kysaiah Pickett (171 cm), Melbourne's dynamo.
It very likely that whoever gets him (St Kilda, Hawthorn, North Melbourne have been mentioned) will need to part with at least their FRD pick which puts the other two clubs well ahead of St Kilda who currently hold picks 13, 32, 51 and 87.
Could Gresham be packaged up with pick 13, would that be acceptable??

Whatever Peter Bell asks for is too much.
Would like to see him at Moorabbin but hopefully Silvagni has a cooler head than previous hagglers.

Re: What price Liam Henry?
Henry is out of contract, unlike say Hill.
Being out of contract they have no choice but to let him go, and this weakens what they can ask for.
Freo received the Blues’ future third round selection for Blake Acres.
Contract talks weren't going the way I would've liked at Freo so I wanted to see what was out there and if there were any other potential good fits for me,” Acres said.

Is there any connection with Ross Lyon when he was at Freo?
I once spent a year in Adelaide, I think it was on a Sunday.

Re: What price Liam Henry?
No, Henry was drafted after Lyon was terminated. Brad Hill likewise...

Re: What price Liam Henry?
Liam was part of their Nextgen Academy in 2018 so Ross knew Liam prior to him getting drafted.
Ross would have tracked his progress during Freo's list management meetings in early 2019

The Brad Hill bit is not right.
Hill went to the Dockers in 2017 and left in 2019.
Lyon was there from 2012 to 2019.

Just checked some news reports from the 2017 trade period when Brad Hill went to FreoLife Long Saint wrote: ↑Fri 01 Sep 2023 5:17pmThe Brad Hill bit is not right.

Seems they were getting impatient and topping up instead of hitting the draft.

Thanks, I stand corrected, it's good to know that there are a couple of links to Henry wth Ross Lyon and Brrad Hill.Scollop wrote: ↑Fri 01 Sep 2023 5:26pmJust checked some news reports from the 2017 trade period when Brad Hill went to FreoLife Long Saint wrote: ↑Fri 01 Sep 2023 5:17pmThe Brad Hill bit is not right.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out and if Henry expresses a preference to move to Moorabbin - if he does then St Kilda will be forced to negotiate a deal because if that fails presumably Henry goes back to the draft and risks being picked up by a club with better picks.

Sell the farm
Like we did with Hill
If we didn’t take Hill and just kept the picks
We would still have Acres
Kysiah Pickett and Max Holmes

Re: What price Liam Henry?
1/ The people that did that deal are no longer in our football department.
2/ Hill was contracted. Henry is out of contract. This means he goes for unders.
3/ Hill at the time was a much more highly rated player, than Henry currently is.
Henry will not be an expensive acquisition.

I think now that we have missed on Flanders, Henry might get a few extra $$$ offerred his way. Hopefully he nominates us and we get him for a 2nd round pick or similiar.

Re: What price Liam Henry?
Statistically even now Hill is miles ahead of Henry.
Henry benefits from being young, a good runner and a good kick but he has a long way to go to even enter into comparisons.
That said, I would like us to get him and think a second round pick is fair.

Not worth a first round pick and certainly not worth a first round pick packaged with anything extra.

Re: What price Liam Henry?
interesting in recent times this type of player and time line sees a similar pick to where they were originally selected.
My guess would cost a late first rounder ?

Re: What price Liam Henry?
Given he is out of contract, the Dockers will have less ability to bend us over in the manner that they did with B Hill.
I'd say a 2nd rounder is on the money.
If the pick you were selected at is the current deemed trade value, I guess we'll be happily trading Clark, Coffield and Billings
Wont help us if Sinclair, Wilkie and Marshall decide to leave us.

Re: What price Liam Henry?
Henry would be a potentially tidy small forward that might augment our forward line nicely. He has better speed than Butler or Higgins. Butler has a specific role he plays well, Higgins could have higher regard by many if his disposal & goal kicking accuracy improved. Still great value regardless.
Henry is younger and this year was a better player than both...but one year doesnt make a legend.
I'm not sure we NEED him as much as we would take him if offered.
A lot of West Coast lads suffer on the East Coast being away from their mob, east coast culture, etc. It may or may not be an issue.
I know SOS was dead keen and tried to draft him...I remember him talking Henry up and saying he had elite skills by hand & foot with speed & a sharp footy brain. It baffled me he didnt come on stronger at Freo after hearing this evaluation.

Freo are reported to be after a pick in the 20-2( range…mid twenties is about right.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Mon 04 Sep 2023 12:52am I think now that we have missed on Flanders, Henry might get a few extra $$$ offerred his way. To be honest I’m not convinced about him, much rather hit the draft
