Top 5 Finals Games Memories......
Hi everyone
As there is this week without football before the boys take on the Giants, I'm wondering what the forumites' five favourite finals involving the Club are (note that you must have been at the ground and not watching it on television)
If anyone was present for the Prelim in 1913 against Fitzroy around here, I'd love to know what the feelings were like!

2005 when we beat Adelaide in Adelaide will always be a highlight for me - Robert Harvey clinic match
And the prelim in 2010 I watched in Port Douglas on the big screen with my now wife in the early stages of us dating
1997 Prelim of course - nuff said

1. That first final in 1991 after a long drought in the 70's and '80's was memorable because we got to see a great display from Plugger. Unfortunately we lost narrowly to those pricks from Geelong
2. The final the year following in '92 when we beat Collingwood at VFL Park Waverley.
3. The prelim in 97 when we beat North and made the Grand Final gave me bragging rights for the first time against my North mates who were sitting there with me at the game.
4. The Qualifying final against Geelong in 2009
5. The prelim against Bulldogs in 09.

Re: Top 5 Finals Games Memories......
Turning the clock back quite a bit:
During th 1966 Grand Final there was a young girl around 10 or 11 standing with her father in front of me and my Dad. This was the old standing room-only stand that made way for the Ponsford Stand Mk I after the game. We watched the game from in front of the scoreboard and the girl, named Angela, was quite a character and a very vocal Saints supporter.
She went right off when the final siren sounded and probably didn't notice the players of both teams exchange jumpers with their opponent. Once she composed herself she looked up to see the Saints running their lap of honour led by Darrell Baldock holding the premiership cup high. "They've stolen our Cup! Those Collingwood mongrels have stolen our Cup!" she screamed with gusto.
Everybody around us were pissing themselves laughing.
It may not be a memory of the actual football but it is my finest memory and his lingered for 57 years. I wonder whatever happened to Angela. If she is still around, she'd be barracking for the Saints and we'd all know if she was at the game!

Geelong qualifying final was 2010 (filth in 2009)... and my favourite.
Followed by both prelims against dogs in 2009, 2010. In 2010 we were behind at half time then kicked 7 goals in the 3rd, that was fun.
Beating Collingwood in the qualifying 2009 was great... I remember being pissed off post game because some filth fans started singing their sh!tty song in the cricketers. You don't get to sing the song when you lose.
2004 semi win against swans was great. Fraser kicked 6 goals (to take him to a fateful 98). Filthy weather. I think the banner was shredded by a burst of wind before or as they ran through it... I took that as an ominous sign we were in for something mighty. (The next year they cut our hearts in the last Q... little guy called Adam Schneider was conspicuous. Barry punched Goose in the guts 100 metres away from the ball, but apparently 'in play'... blah).

Smashing South Melbourne in the 1970 First Semi.
Smashing Essendon in I think 1973 at Waverley. George Young.
1997 Prelim versus North.
2009 Prelim versus WB. The noise where I was sitting was electric.
Bad memory. 1971 GF sitting with a friend who was a Hawthorn supporter. I dared to dream during the third quarter. Toughest game I have seen.

RTB should show the stirring piece from 2.03.08 to the playing group. Unfinished business!

Re: Top 5 Finals Games Memories......
That was the 2013 'Final' as in Grand Final, but because Fitzroy finished on top of the ladder, they had the right to challenge. We actually won the Final that year by almost 5 goals.TimeToShineFellas wrote: ↑Fri 01 Sep 2023 7:56pm Hi everyone

Just watched the entire Bulldogs 09 Prelim
1) We were a star studded team with half a dozen freaks
2) Umps were important for us
3) Raph Clarke was enormous as was Dawson
4) We had several important role players.
