Who do we rest?

Post: # 2026725Post Banger9798 »

Now we're in the finals, what is the strategy for Brions game?
A few could be rested up for an extra week.

Looking at the VFL game today a few of those guys should come in as for some it maybe the last chance for them to play for us or get a contract for next year

I am still haunted by Ross Lyon resting half the team for a Tassie game all those years ago. We won that game, but the spell was broken, and it was the beginning of the end. We were gettable for the first time that year.

No one.

There is a week off after the final round.

You can manage minutes and sub someone like Marshall off though.

Hayes in for Philippou is about the only one I've got.
Paton or Clark in, WIndy into the middle to cover Ross.

Don't forget there's still the pre finals break.

I reckon Coffield, Billings and Hayes should all be given a game.

Who we might rest depends upon who has a niggling injury: and we can't possibly know all about that.

But perhaps:

Hill (with Billings replacing him)
Wilkie (with Coffield coming in)
Owens (with Hayes coming in)
Bytel for the injured Ross, probably as the sub.

Sinclair deserves a rest, but he's an outside chance for the Brownlow, so probably not.

Phillipou, who many have wanted to give a break, seems to be on bit of an upswing, so he should stay.

If Sharman's injury doesn't come up all that well, then Caminiti.

Membrey has made a signiicant structural contribution IMO, and needs to stay.

I was thinking Marshall

Maybe Crouch? Phillipou?

No one..every game we can get into these guys the better, especially against a good side like Brisbane

Membrey must play.

Does a rest help or hinder Hill, Steele, Crouch?

Unless someone is injured or really sore then they play. We're still playing for a home final and we need to keep working on building chemistry between mids/fwds.

No resting.

Hayes has made a very strong case for a game next week, and Billings has done his case no harm.

A minimalist approach would be to elevate Clark to the starting lineup for Ross, and then bring Hayes in as the sub.

Next option would be to rest Hill and bring in Billings.

Possibly that's all that should be considered.

Bytel injured today...groin I think.. He was doubled over a couple of times in obvious pain, not that the f****** commentators noticed FFS.

No one unless injured.

Hill - knee
Sharman- ankle

For Billings and Hayes if they don’t come up.

Hayes would be handy for structure as it gives a competitive ruckman who can also get kicks around the ground.

Also gives Marshall more time forward if they want that.

Seb is an out, replaced by Clark ...would seem pretty obvious.

Billings for Hill is like a doughnut for a bag of peanuts…

But if it works??

Hill was dancing around like a cat on a hot tin roof on Saturday. Can’t imagine anyone else who can come close in our set up

Absolutely no one unless injured.

We still need to win this one to secure a HOME final which is very important rather than playing in Sydney.

If we lose we’re looking at Sydney in Sydney, followed by Port in Adelaide, Brisbane in Brisbane and a Grand Final against Collingwood for our 3rd game of the season at the MCG.

Seb Ross will be an out.
Clarke needs game time.
I would be getting Billings in somewhere.

Why would you give games to players who may not on our list next year, makes no sense. We are not in any position to be a charitable organisation. I doubt there will be many changes next week, only what is necessary.
