LOL - and so Essendon find another way to screw us.
GWS before this round Percentage of 98.6
GWS at the moment Percentage of 104.05
As I see it - we are 8th if we do not beat Geelong
And then finishing 9th if we don't then beat Brisbane

Longer term.
This had to make parish much more likely to leave.
If we manage to win today and play finals we are well positioned.

If we dont beat either Geelong or Brisbane we dont deserve to play finals - simple.Sainter_Dad wrote: ↑Sat 19 Aug 2023 7:38pm GWS before this round Percentage of 98.6

Is it possible we could finish ninth on 13 wins?

Pretty sure that 13 wins will ensure Finals Football.

Even if we beat Cats tonight ... if Giants wins v Carlton (possible) and Bulldogs beat Cats (at Geelong ground) - we miss out by percentage. Especially if we get badly beaten by Brisbane. Any way ... first lets beat the Cats. Halftime - we lead.

Re: LOL - and so Essendon find another way to screw us.
Assuming all the other results fall their way and we keep our loss to 4 goals, GWS will probably need to beat Carlton by around 30 points in final game to make it.

Eh!!
Are you kidding me?
1) GWS beat Carlton (which is entirely plausible…Carlton just got out of jail with Gold Coast)
2) Bulldogs beat Geelong..(more than plausible…probable)
We miss out?..
What.??

Even more so now - Swans in the mix.
Thanks to what has to be one of the worst Umpiring decisions ever in the Crows v Swans game - a decision that The_Dud seems to approve of because he refers to people discussing it as Whingers and uses the Crying emogi

All 3 games have to go against us, and all 3 are currently the underdogs according to the bookies.
This is also only an issue if we get beaten by Brisbane first.
So let’s keep it simple.
Beat Brisbane. Play finals no matter what.

Re: LOL - and so Essendon find another way to screw us.
It’s worse than that.
These teams need to do us a solid:
Geelong
Melbourne
Carlton
But, I think it makes no difference to them if they win or not…
If it comes down to the GWS game, I think the winning/losing margin differential is approximately 55 points.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong..

Final round of the season (and first round) is usually when upsets happen.diddley wrote: ↑Sun 20 Aug 2023 10:41am3) Sydney also need to beat Melbourne.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Sun 20 Aug 2023 10:32amEh!!

Betting odds are out the window.
Hopefully Geelong have some pride and do the Bulldogs who don’t play well down there. Cameron might have a big one. He doesn’t usually play two quiet games in a row.
I personally don’t think GWS deserve to make finals.
As you suggested, beat Brisbane to put it beyond doubt and get the doubters off our back. It’s possible.

Barrack for Hawthorn today.
If they win, it changes the nature of a few of next week’s games.
Melbourne and Carlton will be playing for fourth. That should help us at least.

To miss finals, a possible scenario would have to go something like this.
Bulldogs beat Eagles by 100 points today, then beat Geelong at Geelong next week (context: the Bulldogs last won at KP in 2003 - 20 years ago).
We have to lose by at least 30 points in Brisbane (context: we have only lost one game all year by 30 points or more all season).
GWS must beat Blues by 30 points in Melbourne.
Sydney have to beat Melbourne by 30 points.
Essendon throwing the towel in yesterday (context: their club's fifth biggest loss in 150 years) and an incorrect goal umpiring decision in Adelaide have created this drama which I am sure the AFL are rapt about. They couldn't have manufactured it better if they tried.
We would have to see a perfect storm for us to miss.

Spot on SP. My sentiments exactly. And given the events of yesterday, it could happen.

So basically our job next week is to stay within a couple of goals of Brisbane as a minimum?
Brisbane are very good up there, hope the boys are switched on

Re: LOL - and so Essendon find another way to screw us.
Just as you posted - there would need to be a differential of about 55 points, so if we lose by 30, say, they would need to win by 30 for us to miss out (and GWS would need to do the same). If we keep it close, as I expect us to do, and only lose by 15, they would both need to win by about 6-7 goals. But that's IF we lose. The 'Dogs are struggling against the Eagles today, so it may all end up moot anyway.SaintPav wrote: ↑Sun 20 Aug 2023 12:42pmWhy do Sydney need to beat Melbourne by 30 points?samuraisaint wrote: ↑Sun 20 Aug 2023 12:09pmIt is very unlikely that we will miss.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Sun 20 Aug 2023 10:32amEh!!

Edit: just checked - Sydney have a draw, so we need them to lose to Melbourne. % irrelevant to us.
