Re: Mass exodus
Um.
I said you're claims of an exodus is fiction. Exodus implying people leaving the club not people being moved on- small but important distinction.
The club stated that we are capable of more however we will need to make changes and likely go backwards in the short term to go.forwards.
Agreeing there will be changes and we will be active. Not agreeing that it will be a "overhaul"

Re: Mass exodus
His team couldn’t score for 10 weeks
Look, as I’ve said numerous times - he’s a good coach
I’m just not so dumb that I can’t point out any mistakes (even in hindsight when it’s obvious enough, even for you)
We win
It’s the coach
We lose
It’s the players
Isn’t that the logic?!

Re: Mass exodus
Exodus = People leaving
Billings, Clark, Gresham of there own want
Others because they will be moved on
Some - to gain draft capital or SC space

Re: Mass exodus
Of course it is fictional
It hasn’t happened yet -
But imo is likely - hence the thread
I’d be surprised if there aren’t 8+ changes to the list!

Re: Mass exodus
Don't think anyone has claimed that. However it does seem that your narrative is the reverse.
Effectively we are the same as last year so it's all down to the players. Is that your logic?
The rest of us are merely suggesting we believe the club, of which RL is a part, is on a better path now than we were 12 months ago.
Better game plan
More competitive losses
More games into the youth
Dealt with more injuries
Higher standards

Re: Mass exodus
Billings is tied to a contract, is he going to nominate for the draft?
Or are we agreeing to let some9ne else pay him for 10 games in 2 years.

Re: Mass exodus
Gresham Clark Membrey Paton Billings and Coffield are the ones who are on the table according to Cal Twomey.
Gresh is being shopped everywhere. Carlton have dropped off, Gold Coast are interested but may not be able to afford him, Melbourne might be interested and Essendon want him but don't want to lose compo for Parish.
Its going to be tough to offload him. He wants to play on the MCG more.
Billings will have to take a cut to get game time anywhere. We might need to keep him.
Membrey has interest but not much.
Interest has been shown in Paton and apparently Coffield is not going to be at St.Kilda.

Re: Mass exodus
Is Cal Twomey itk????
He mentioned 6 players
And the possibility of Steele
That’s a significant number of players to lose
Plus delisted players of which there will be at least 4
Highmore, Bytel, Adams, Connolly clearly gone!
So possibly 10
Hey, I’m not ITK
But maybe I can read the tea leaves and so can the bloke I was chatting to at Moorabbin last week. We both agreed - it’s going to be a clean out!

From 18 clubs nearly 160 players were traded, delisted or retired. That's nearly an average of 9 per club.B.M wrote: ↑Thu 17 Aug 2023 2:24am Is Cal Twomey itk????

Re: Mass exodus
How many of ours will be retired?
Imo 4 delisted
Did many other clubs have 6-7 leave to other clubs in a season
Let’s crack into the actual data

Re: Mass exodus
Has anyone actually left?
You've gone from revision to prediction and you're drawing your own conclusion based on........your opinion.
Mackenzie may retire. I've heard Webster may retire, Campbell may retire.
Billings hasn't managed to stay on the field for 2 years and has a contract for another 2.
Why would he leave.
Gresham is more inconsistent than anything else
Coffield has been unlucky but if his ability to run is hampered, he may want a fresh start.
Clark hasn't said a word publicly other than he wanted to get away from Ratten and smell Richo left behind.
If you are trying to imply that 3 or 4 relatively disappointing early draft picks wanting to leave because the coach wants more and they don't like it, they can try their luck and get a dose of reality.
Coffield will be the only real loss there.

FWIW, here is my opinion:
Gresham - yes, let him go and hope we get a 2nd round pick via free agency.
Clark - must keep him. fits our young core profile.
Billings- keep him. has no trade value, would be cheap to keep, good depth, let him finish as a 1 club player.
Coffield - must keep him. Will be a gun again if kept injury free. fits our young core profile.
Jones - let him go. 28 yrs old and injury prone and inconsistent with form.
Howard - trade him out. try and get a 2nd rounder. The hillbilly circus must finally end.
Membrey - I think he should make way for our young group. If we can get a 3rd rounder, then trade him out.
Crouch - must keep.
Ross - give him 1 more year but hopefully he plays in the 2's.
Paton - give him 1 more year. I still think he can make it as a lockdown back pocket.
Highmore - give him 1 more year for defensive depth.
McKenzie - tough choice but needs to be let go. Injury prone and was always a battler.
Adams - let him go.
Allison - let him go.
Connolly - let him go.
I have seen at least 8 Sandy games and Adams is a prospect in his first full season he has held as a KPD and done pretty well as a intercept marker and plays well on some of the bigs. He is what we need coming through if by next season he is not progressed enough then maybe but a bit harsh. Bach has often a lot of good things to say. Yes he is young and at 198cm 88kg will get heavier and stronger he makes mistakes.
As for Highmore he gets a lot of processions but he turns over the ball a lot so it comes straight back his kicking is terrible and decision making is not good at times so why would we keep him???
Bytel - let him go.
Dow - would only get him in as a Rookie.
J Silvagni - no thanks.

is not the definition of logic
ie.. it's not logical
call it what it really is ... propaganda

Re: Mass exodus
My opinion
Gresham. If he wants more cash let him go for 2nd round compensation, otherwise keep him on less money
Howard. If someone comes with a very attractive offer ( eg North Melbourne's second round pick) then take it. Otherwise, keep him
Paton. Accept a reasonable offer.aybexpackagexhim up with another player
Bytel. Out of contract. Let him go elsewhere for more opportunities
Highmore. See Bytel
Jones. Keep. Offer him a basic contract. His big dollar days are over
Billings. Only let him go for an attractive offer. Still a good player
Connolly. I'm afraid it's not looking good for Leo. Pity he didn get more opportunities. Hope he gets picked up by another club
Campbell. Tough call. If Marshall get a long term injury, Tom will be required. It's a flip of the coin
McKenzie. Keep. Do everything to get him right. He's a good player and just the type of player you want beside you when the game gets tough and nasty
Allison. Has shown next to nothing. His injury this year didn't help. With the right attitude could he become our next Mason Wood? One more year to show us if he's got it.
Membrey. Keep. He's a very good player and could play another three or four years
Coffield. Keep. At least give him a chance to show his value.
Clark. I'd keep him, but I suspect if someone dangles a second rounder in our faces we'll take it.
Peris. Keep. Speed speed speed. Always an asset. Has shown enough, too.

It's possible we end up with one first round pick and three second rounders if we choose to move a couple on. What we'll do after that will be interesting

Based on the list we have - I can't conceive how we're a better team without Membrey. Personally, I love Cammo's enthusiasm and effort but - Members is a proper, fully formed footballer.skeptic wrote: ↑Wed 16 Aug 2023 12:39pmNo question. One of the top 5 ruckman in the league....one of the few things we have going our way.
Marshall is close to the best of the ones he’s ever had at his disposal.
Maybe not so good at the tap work but it’s hard to see it
Marshal, Steele and Crouch seem like locks to me
Howard and Membrey’s stocks have dropped this year, especially with Cordy having a great game on the weekend. Will actually be interesting to see how he does over a few weeks.
Commentary was more on perceived perceptions
I thought our forward structure against the Tiges was comfortably the best version we've had all year. It had a really good balance
