Correct
The list left to him after wasted Richo/Ratten years needs to be rebuilt
I think it’s his greatest test he knows that
I back him

I definitely am not in the know, but

What I’ve heard - down at Moorabbin - when I was talking to a track watcher - was that SOS wants two things

Open up the Salary Cap space to lure players
And
Draft capital

Some names mentioned - all of whom would be a shocking mistake - are the same ones mentioned on here

Big wage players
Marshall, Steele, Membrey, Crouch, Howard

Ross isn’t enamoured with many of our senior players - except Wilkie, Hill and Sinclair

Playing a decent brand of footy and winning games comprehensively will definitely help lure players

It's a pity we had an awful run from round 14 onwards and Carlton started winning and playing well. That period co-incided with TDK signing a 2 year extension to stay with the Blues

I can understand if they get rid of a mid like Steele or Crouch... won't be happy if it's Jack because I think it's a mistake to judge him on just this year...but anyway

I can understand if they get rid of a defender like Howard...or a forward like Membrey because most of these guys we can cover

We have replacements.

Who's going to replace Marshall?

If they trade Marshall

It’s worse than McEvoy, Stanley, Hickey by a mile!

Stanley is an A Grade player imo

there does seem to be a bit of goss n chit chat about the places
re .. Marshall

'giving him a chance' to play out his final years with a (Premiership Window Open) team

was the propaganda line i've read / heard more than once

which was /is the same propaganda i read / hear re
the other senior players being named

hmmmm

Stanley has never been an A grade player. Not anywhere near it.

If they trade Marshal then they have completely lost the plot

Part of me thinks there is no chance they would even entertain such a crazy idea.

The other part of me says it’s St Kilda we are talking about which historically has been very fertile ground for crazy ideas.

Yep. I did a thread a few years back RE all our attempts to recruit a ruck since the late 90s.
The analysis was something to the effect of btw trades, drafting and all other means etc we’ve attempted it 30 times with our best efforts being Marshall off the rookie list, Gardiner essentially a free swing and maybe one or two others.

Reality is… an elite ruck is IMO one of the rarest commodities in football. If you get it, you keep it.

Would have to be a hell of a god father offer to shift my mind

Maybe they will try for Grundy. I'm not sure what that would achieve.

If we lose Marshall for a first round pick or a trade deal to land Parish or another quality mid, then we need a first ruck. Grundy fits the bill. He was All Australian ruckman in 2018 and 2019.

If no one wants him, Grundy will probably end up being the most expensive player in the VFL next year and will probably retire after that.

With Mason Cox getting on in years, there's also the possibility of Grundy going back to Collingwood

It’s going to be so fascinating to get an insight into Lyons mindset at trade time with regards to recruitment.

For us fans that will be our “exploration” of learning what his list development strategy will be.

Strictly hypothetical What if Marshall went in a trade and we replaced him with Darcy from Freo?

Lyon better not trade for top ups ie 2nd stringers from other clubs or role players!

We, sadly, might be the same, Saynta.
My 9 year old absolutely idolises Marshall and if he was traded the grief would be enormous.

Probably a like for like and while Darcy is a better ruckman, pointless trading IMO when you look at the whole picture.

Ro is not only a very good player but by all accounts is popular too so I hope they are thinking of the impact on team morale etc.
