Votes v Blues
Simply not good enough.
Blokes who played well in first half fell away badly.
5. Cal Wilkie
4. Josh Battle
These blokes did their job superbly all day .
3. Mason Wood. Got a heck of it . Gut running all day . Good hands. However turned it over so much .
2. Rowan Marshall . Competed hard. The fourth of our four quarter performers
1. Brad Crouch. Superb first half. MIA late

Re: Votes v Blues
4 Wood
3 Wilkie
3 Battle
2 Webster
1 Marshall
1 Owens
1 Sincs
Quite a few players cooked in the last. Clark had a really good first half. Virtually unsighted afterwards. Steele good for 3 quarters. Crouch same. Owens kept fighting - tough kid.
We got reamed by a bunch of incompetent yellow maggots. There were plenty of howlers. And they cost us dearly ...but the worst decision and most blatant miss (apart from Butlers tackle) was in the third quarter with Patty Cripps getting tackled in the middle by Roma and Cripps throws the footy and the ump calls 'play on'.
The maggot was 2 -3 metres away with a clear view ( Cripps was facing the maggot - it was straight in front of the umpire). Fvcking unbelievable!!
8 minutes to go in the last and we get a break from stoppage in their backline. Ball goes to the wing just past CHB and Byrnes goes up for the mark
Ronnie cops the clearest form of tunnelling you'll ever see. Carlton player late to the contest. No other players around to obscure the view. Just Ryan and the the guy running to contest
No attempt to mark or spoil by the Carlton player who has feet planted - just cannoned straight into Byrnes body while Ronnie is jumping in the air. Scores were level at this stage so we needed to stop their momentum. Bad luck. Play on - no free. Goal scored by Carlton
The look on Butler's face said it all as our players walked off the ground. He was fuming. Anyway... it's good for the AFL to have Carlton playing well...so suck it up St Kilda. That's what you get for complaining about the roof not getting closed.

Re: Votes v Blues
Vote for Saints who tried hard for the four quarters would be:
5.
4.
3. Wilke
2. Battle
1. Wood (though he pretty much helped Carlton get two goals with his horrible turnovers)
-5. Captain (terrible game)

Re: Votes v Blues
Personally - not sure Mason is BOG - 36 disposals - but 11 Turnovers
4th in Ranking Points for the game as opposed to 1st in Fantasy points.
But you guys voted that way!

Re: Votes v Blues
I understand what you're saying about the turnovers but you can't ignore the workrate. He was one of the few who kept going and tried his heart out until the final siren.
His efforts deep on our last line of defence highlight his hard running. He doesn't get stats for his spoils and contests against Carlton's forwards, but he saved us a few times.
He effectively kills the opportunity for them to score with a punch that connects and sends the ball oob or through for a rushed behind.
Having said all that, Wilkie was stiff, and I note just missed by 1 vote. Maybe if more people made an effort to watch replays of games we lose they may have voted for Callum.

Re: Votes v Blues
Sorry I didn't vote now.
I was struggling to find 5 good players but thought Wilkie clearly best.
Wood turned it over much too often and was on Acres for large parts of the game who I thought cut us up.
I was dead against Acres being "given" to Freo as steak knives in the Hill deal but that's another story.

Re: Votes v Blues
Cripps presence can make even steak knives look like silverware. Acres is mentally a 5 stone weakling in a huge body, played great when they were all over us and he went untouched. We don't have a Cripps and don't need any more mentally 5 stone seagulls. I will apologise to Blake if he performs well in a knockout must win game in September.StPeter wrote: ↑Fri 11 Aug 2023 3:12am Sorry I didn't vote now.
