Coaches votes Rnd 21
The Coaches Association votes were weird this week
Both coaches gave Fisher (4+2) and Acres(4+3) votes but only 1 coach thought Newman (5) was worthy. The other gave top votes to Cripps (5) and left out Newman altogether
The fact that Wood and Wilkie are on 1 each means that both Cripps and Newman must get 5 each. It's the only way it works.
Cripps had 24 touches. 5 X i50's and 4 Score involvements
Newman had 35 touches. 6 X i50's and 4 Score involvements.
Granted Cripps had a few more contested possessions but Newman plays HBF, so the fact that Newman had so many i50's is significant imo.
Is Vossy pumping up a Carlton player (the highest profile bloke on his list - the captain and Brownlow medalalist) so it's good for Carlton fans and sponsors to see him high up on the leaderboard?
Does Lyon perhaps think Cripps was more influential than all of Newman, Acres, Weitering and Fisher...or ...did Lyon stuff up and forgot who wore jumper number 24?
Maybe RTB couldn't give a stuff about coaches votes and he doesn't even know who Nic Newman is
7 Blake Acres (CARL)
6 Zac Fisher (CARL)
5 Patrick Cripps (CARL)
5 Nicholas Newman (CARL)
3 Jacob Weitering (CARL)
2 Tom De Koning (CARL)
1 Callum Wilkie (STK)
1 Mason Wood (STK)

Re: Coaches votes Rnd 21
Thank you for this post I thought they were strange when I looked on Monday
I was surprised De Koening got votes, he had some moments.. but votes?
Cripps 5? He was good but BOG?
But how could Wilkie only get one vote and one coach could not squeeze him in at all.

Re: Coaches votes Rnd 21
That Blake Acres must be good, we should try get someone like that down at the Saints.
Can we also please stop pretending Steele "sacrificed his game" and "did a job" on Cripps too? He just flat out had a stinker, nothing more.

Does that include all the times he kicked it directly to the opposition?

Re: Coaches votes Rnd 21
Interesting voting analysis.
Wood had 37 possessions including 11 turnovers. Needless to say that it was frustrating to watch.
Acres is prone to butcher the ball too but was more effective on the afternoon.
Having Dan McKenzie on the other wing who can get back to help the defenders would have been very helpful. The guy can run all day and is very tough. I’m not sure if it’s a coincidence or not but we haven’t been the same team since he’s been missing.

Some players go at 66% DE with 11 turnovers, some go at 85% DE with 2 goals and get best on from the coaches

If Dan had stayed fit we would have probably played finals last year and Ratts would still be coach. And Ross would not.
Hope whatever curse is on us is lifted under a mercy rule soon.
Not sure how the current coaching/playing group gordian knot is going to be undone.
Maybe Owens, Phillipou, Windhager and Caminiti ( and a few from last year's draft like Heath) plus Sinclair and Marshall will cut it through weight of talent.
Also can't see the current coaching panel staying in place much longer, there must be tensions. Even, dare I say, recriminations.

The point is Acres is a quality player that we never used properly when on our list, and should have never been sent to Freo as steak knives in the Hill deal.CURLY wrote: ↑Wed 09 Aug 2023 10:52amYep and Sharman was in the best last week and this week was no good. It's an all too familiar St Kilda story.

Freo booted him as well. Hes ok but would be just as maligned here now as what he was.The_Dud wrote: ↑Wed 09 Aug 2023 11:03amThe point is Acres is a quality player that we never used properly when on our list, and should have never been sent to Freo as steak knives in the Hill deal.CURLY wrote: ↑Wed 09 Aug 2023 10:52amYep and Sharman was in the best last week and this week was no good. Would have been nice to see a couple of our midfielders or a forward do enough to get a vote apart from Wood. Poor team effort, poor coaching.
