Yeah the gap between the top two and the rest seems insurmountable.
Melbourne got a win against Pies on their grand final. Lions win at the Gabba, but the GF is on MCG. Their best bet is to get Port on a GF…. which is still not a good omen.
But it sure does feel like the rest of the comp is just making up numbers. Pies have gone up and up and saints hardly look like the team that lost to the pies by less than 10 points earlier in the season.

They needed to win that last night - lost by a kick, sure, but so did we when we played Collingwood over there, and we didn't have a home ground advantage to play on.
Nope, Port are in strife. I reckon they lose the next two as well, and probably more.
Your friendly neighbourhood samurai.

The company line has been the list is poor, coaching is great, we are not in a position to handle success, range of ladder possible positions is 6 -12. It was probably uncomfortable for the management to be hanging on to 5th for so long like unworthy over achievers and enabling our expectations to rise - ever so slightly. Unfortunately it seems the object is to target the lower end of the predicted range not over achieve. That lower target takes pressure off coaching staff by lowering expectations and the well worn next preseason/draft card can be played. Problem is once fixed on a descent rather than improvement it can become self fullfilling and very hard to reverse - that ballast just wont eject!. Its at the opposite end of the we can do it scale from Coach McCrae. Anyway, go for 12th and lets be grateful for those unlikely early season wins. The Coach's words will provide comfort as other comparable sides leave us behind. Tick boxes, as many as applicable: injuries, youth, previous government, talent pool, fixturing, adapting to change, weather, big occasion syndrome: (none of which apply to sides above us, lucky devils).

It’s the vibe, it’s the vibe, it’s about exploration, it’s about audits, it’s the vibe, yeah it’s the vibe.Yorkeys wrote: ↑Sun 23 Jul 2023 12:12pm The company line has been the list is poor, coaching is great, we are not in a position to handle success, range of ladder possible positions is 6 -12. A win by 5 goals or more will see us 5th, which will be where we were before losing four of our previous five. I bet that hasn't happened too often. But I am getting ahead of myself. A win today is by no means a cert.
